  1. Link is now: http://www.thisisbolton.co.uk/lancashire/b...news/NEWS4.html If it moves again go to the news page and the headline is Treasure hunters find weapon under rock. Scaryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
  2. Ah yes Bimbo Barbie! We have met before... MarcB I am SOOOOOOOOOOOO shocked. We were casually perusing the photos of Bimbo making comments about how the youth of today don't look after themselves when (shock of shocks) we find a picture of Barbie with one of our innocent (well at least they were when they left our nest) ducks sitting on her lap Bimbo Barbie and Lou Lou Lumi Duck. What we want to know now is WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO introduced them. That duck has some answering to do!
  3. Team S-J's idea of blaming the kids works for me every time, plus if you've got kids people normally give you a wide berth. Someone did once ask if the GPSr my 7 year old was carrying was his mobile phone - as if I'd buy him one of those, GPSrs are free to operate and much more educational!
  4. Thanks Mark, as usual excellent service from your good self, hope you're fully recovered from your epic adventure!
  5. Hi there! I'm trying to log the cache Where's in a name ( wow I've just managed to insert a hyperlink - yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!) and I need the help of a buddy in the north of England (I think). I've converted my username to 54°46.63' so I need to find someone willing to get onto that as a northern latitude - it comes out as somewhere roughly on the same latitude as Durham. Anywhere in the UK on that latitude would be fine - it's your choice! (It doesn't have to be the location of another geocache) Once you've chosen the location you need to email me an interesting picture of your GPSr at that location. We can then both log the cache (I think!). Anyone willing to help?
  6. 'Tis sufficiently far in the future for us to be able to say yes pretty confidentially, at least the moment! Thanks for organising it!
  7. I may be being a bit dim here (unlike the screen on this fabby new model) but isn't one of the main purposes of this GPS the quality of the maps? Where is the material coming from? The piccies I've seen include colour and contours, as far as I know Mapsource is line drawing and B&W.
  8. Thanks Hydeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee - fair enough, explanation accepted. Shame though to lose this one as it is in a bit of a desert and as I hate the logging system on the other site I don't bother going there and suspect lots of others are the same. Lizzzzzzzzzzzzzzeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Why is it that when you're out for a walk carrying a map everyone asks if you're lost?
  9. Thanks Element14, can't understand a word of Renegade Knight's post though. I also don't understand why admin don't just delete Cain Mosni's account as he said he no longer uses Geocaching.com Lizzzzzzzzzzzzzzeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Why is it that when you're out for a walk carrying a map everyone asks if you're lost?
  10. By the way the cache is: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=60475 Lizzzzzzzzzzzzzzeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Why is it that when you're out for a walk carrying a map everyone asks if you're lost?
  11. Does anyone know what's going on? I just got a message re one of my watch list caches which doesn't seem to be missing. The message was: "September 29 by hydee (0 found) Cache Owner, You must maintain your listings on geocaching.com for them to remain listed. This is an automated reply. I regret that due to issues of technology and operating philosophy, and in particular their policy of censorrship user e-mails submitted from geocaching.com are no longer accepted here. Happy Geocaching! Heidi" Does anyone know what's going on? I can't understand why it's been archieved. Admittedly it's a B***** to find but I managed to find it. I'll adopt it if the owner isn't caching any more but I think he is. 12. I heard a report on the local news a couple of days ago that said the New Forest were closing a large number of their car parks for the winter, result was lots of people up in arms about the loss of access to "their" forest. Maybe it's worth trying to get contact through the New Forest District Council, maybe building on the links with Hampshire County Council, although there may be animosity between County and District Councils as there sometimes can be??? 13. I bought a sheet of stencil card from my local art shop for a couple of pounds, it took me about half an hour of relaxation with a scalpel and voila, it's done about 8-9 boxes and is still going strong. If you have the small size boxes I could pop the stencil in an envelope and post it to you if you return it to me after you've used it. Let me have your address if you're interested. For the paint I just got an end of line can of spray from the bargain bin in my local car accessory shop as I wasn't worried about the colour. 14. I don't know how other people with small children feel but my two (5 and 6) quite like finding Happy Meal toys, especially if they are new and still in their bag. Burger King toys are particularly popular because they usually actually DO something! 15. I think this has most likely come up before but I've recently had an incident where my travel bug was "grabbed" by it's new "sitter" prior to the previous "sitter" getting the chance to log it. It has thereby missed out on visiting one of the caches and the resulting mileage. One way to avoid this might be for the new "bug-sitter" to wait until it has been logged into a cache, but a much neater way (as suggested by my bug current sitter) might be for the GC.com database actually mail the current bug-sitter with a generic message saying 'Oi! log your bug, ya mug' or something to that effect. Has anyone else experienced the problem and maybe come up with a solution??? 16. This thread seems to have disappeared off the current list so I searched and, hopefully by posting it will bump it up the list . . . but then maybe it won't - weird things have been happening recently! 17. 14th December is my birthday so count me in! Lizzzzzzzzzzzzzzeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Why is it that when you're out for a walk carrying a map everyone asks if you're lost?
  18. We've just returned from the North East and found the caches there rather disappointing for the children. Most were virtuals, others were micros and we only found one actual box with a few goodies in it (in fact we left two things and took nothing there). It's not a critism as those who cache op there obviously feel the hunting is the aim rather than the contents of the box but it did make us all realise the quality of boxes in the "Winchester Oasis"! 19. Count us in, and we have 4 spare seats if anyone would like to join us (could be fun!). Pick up shouldn't be a problem as we are in the far south east part of the area so it's sure to take place around the far north west part! 20. quote:Originally posted by The Hole-in-the-wall Gang:Also , can you suggest methods for making sure that my co-ords are accurate when placing the cache(s). I would try and make sure that the GPSr was seeing enough satellites to have reasonable accuracy ( what is considered as normal ? ) but I know that tree cover can cause errors so any techniques that you could suggest to overcome this would be useful. My GPSr (Garmin eMap) has an averaging feature whereby you sit at your site with the GPS in average mode and it takes lots and lots of readings then averages them itself. I haven't used it in anger yet but now I've found out what it can do I will when I place my next cache. Also, Omally is right and coverage does vary throughout the day so I would just camp out at your cache location for a full 24 hours if you want to be really accurate!! 21. I'll be heading over that way on Tuesday so I can take a look as I'll be quite close, unless anyone beats me to it. Lizzzzzzzzzzzzzzeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Why is it that when you're out for a walk carrying a map everyone asks if you're lost?
  22. Congratulations you two - your stamina amazes me! I still have a slight feeling that you're stalking me though - especially now I've just seen your log for Kenilworth Castle!!! Still I suppose when you're doing as many as you are probably everyone thinks that!!! 23. Hi Kathrina, Hope you're having a great holiday. Now get back and place that cache girl! And lay off the men in lederhosen!!!! Many congrats on the ton, even though it didn't include Tumuli Turmoil it's still very worthy of praise! 24. quote:Originally posted by Daisy&me:Its a big help to have a dog with you as it gives you a plausable reason for wandering around in the countryside. If I'm actually caught peering under logs etc, I start talking to Daisy saying 'where's your ball then Daisy, where did it go?'. Same method can also be used when accompanied by young children. They are an excellent excuse for all manner of weird behaviour. I have two for hire/sale but as I'm not allowed to solicit goods and services on this forum you'll have to check out eBay! 25. Hi there you lot! Hope you've recovered from a hectic day, glad to help in the little way that we did with the geomuggles. Hope you're all now relaxing with a few cold beers (and bears) before the fun starts tonight. I'm hoping to catch a few zzzzzzzz's before the 40th birthday party tonight - missing you all already!
