Too bad about the loss of a fellow Arizonan from the geocaching community; the few I have met in the field are rational and friendly. Heck, I change avatars about every two or three weeks or so and this one will eventually fall by the wayside too. Some of you might recall one I used prior to the friendly geolizard - the instant messenger guy with an eTrex in his hand. I've also used Johnny Quest/Bandit/Hadji, and a B-24 bomber to honor my dad who was shot down in one of those over Germany almost 60 years ago. For the record, I did not rip this off from Team 360 as some might believe. I ripped it off from a software package called Tokay (check it out), which is a backflow prevention program widely used in the water/sewer industry. Tokay is the species of lizard this little fellow belongs to. This shows that the use of geckos and other lizards are prevalent in the world, and especially in the arid southwest as one post notes. Now, if Tokay has a problem with my use of the wall climber, it will be gone from my posts like an Iraqi tax collector I've never been lost, but I was a might bewildered for three days once. Anyone know why when I click on my name above my avatar and select the view the public profile option the info presented does not contain the interests and background info I see when I select "View Your Profile as Others See ..." through "My Cache Page"? Seems like these views should be the same. I've never been lost, but I was a might bewildered for three days once. Daniel Boone

Spoilers are ok if the poster makes sure that readers know that the post contains spoiler info and has encrypted that applicable portion of the post. Spoiler photos should not be allowed except by link and then only with proper language indicating the nature of the spoiler photo. On some caches, the "twist" the cache owner incorporated is the best part of the cache, and it is unfair for a previous finder to ruin it for those that follow. So sayeth the evil lizard. I offer my humble apologies if my new avatar offends any of the other lizard-type avatar users out there, or any other reptilian-based avatar users. I will go so far as to extend my apologies to anyone who has ever considered the use of an avatar even loosely based on any cold blooded creature. I will not, however, apologize to anyone using an avatar that contains a mammal or simulates the use of a mammal, or crustacean for that matter. And of course, I will not apologize to anyone using canned spam in their avatar, but I will offer my condolences to those people. I had been working on this one for some time prior to uploading it. I did notice "the other" lizard shortly before I finished this one, but felt mine was different enough so as not to encroach on that user's sense of ownership. However, to be fair, I would be willing to discontinue the use of my clearly genetically superior and heterosexual geo-lizard for, say, a new Garmin Vista. Surely, this is not asking too much. What does the error message say? Is the photo for an avatar? Could be a format problem. I've never been lost, but I was a might bewildered for three days once. Daniel Boone

Annual GeoCaching.com Field Guide
geoStrider replied to Cache Canucks's topic in General geocaching topics
I wouldn't be interested. I don't see the need for, or the value of, a "field guide" for something as straight forward as this. Enough info exists online to answer any pertinent questions. I've never been lost, but I was a might bewildered for three days once. Daniel Boone -

Yep, inappropriate. Fortunately, these rude monkeys will soon go to the etherial TB black hole and never be seen again. Besides, I hate a show off monkey! I've never been lost, but I was a might bewildered for three days once. Daniel Boone

I recently purchased the Olympus C-720. Great zoom at 8X optical and 3X digital. It's fairly compact and the pics are great. Lots of great features for the gadget lover. I've never been lost, but I was a might bewildered for three days once. Daniel Boone

No credit for the find. It's as simple as that. Contact the logger and indicate you will allow the find when notification is received that cache has been properly replaced. I've never been lost, but I was a might bewildered for three days once. Daniel Boone

I've got a Legend and I really enjoy it. I use it for work, play, and a mix thereof. I like gadgets with bells and whistles, so there are times I think the Vista would be nice, but the practical side of me knows that I would seldom use the extra features. I never met a micro I didn't like. My boys, however, prefer regular caches so they can swap trinkets and perhaps pick up a pocket knife (oops, I forgot, pocket knives in caches don't really exist - I must have imagined that). I recently toured a local mine and learned that they use GPS extensively in their operations. I thought this piece of equipment might be handy for some of the more difficult buried caches. Parking might pose a problem with some of the more strict home owners associations though. I've never been lost, but I was a might bewildered for three days once. Daniel Boone

There are also some customizable sticks being sold on eBay you might want to check out. I've never been lost, but I was a might bewildered for three days once. Daniel Boone

quote: Then I can just slap one of those cool looking walking sticks on in place of my missing leg!!! I'll be as good as new ... Be sure to get the model with the compass, whistle, thermometer, and signal mirror! Maybe you could get a retracting GPSr holster like Robocop. getting started w/Garmin Legend...Southern New Hampshire
geoStrider replied to Paul the Explorer's topic in How do I...?
Check out/print the online user's manual at Garmin.com. Depending on when your Legend was packaged it may have come with a prior version (6/01) of the manual. The most current is 10/02, but I know the older manual is still out there in new Legend boxes. The 10/02 manual covers more topics in much better detail. Check your GPSr settings to see what it is set to. True vs. Magnetic is an age old debate. I prefer to set my Legend to true north. My compass has a declination adjustment to allow it to be set to true north also. If you are doing map work, this allows you to take bearings directly without having to adjust for declination. Good idea. Those little packs come in handy, especially for the geocachers who forget to pack a small firstaid kit. I've never been lost, but I was a might bewildered for three days once. Daniel Boone
