  1. I would say that, yes, it is *exceedingly* poor taste to SHOUT your topic subjects. If you want to know something, feel free to post the topic, but IF YOU KEEP SHOUTING WE'LL ALL HATE YOU! (Well, we really won't hate you; I just get carried away when I'm shouting. icon_wink.gif)

Actually, that is indeed half of it. The other half is that people asked for it. (Yes, cachers did! The vile thugs!)

You know what? I've met Jeremy and Elias, and I'm more than happy for them to make a few pennies off me. I mean, hey, I've spent more than $30 on *GAS* in one cache hunt.

Welcome to the real world. icon_razz.gif

  4. Count me in for geocaching and waypointing. (Scavenger hunting isn't my style, though.)

Seriously, though, that does seem like a rather logical way to split it all up. Whether or not it actually is formalized, I think I'll start using the "waypointing" term right away. icon_smile.gif

  6. You might want to go to the regional forums and see if you can find someone to tag along with a little. I don't know if anyone there is going to have a receiver you can borrow, but chances are you can find someone to try to catch up to. It's the next best thing, and you get to actually meet another cacher, which is cool as well.

The trick: upload it to the cache page for the cache you were seeking. Then copy the URL for the picture from the cache page.

  8. If you wanted to take a peek at something in the upper mid-range area (below the Garmin GPS V, but beside or above it and most others in many respects), take a peek at the Magellan Meridian series.

Now, if you are really comfortable with the Garmin user interface, you'll be awkward at first with Magellan's UI, and you may not like the Meridians at all. Still, in the interest of completeness, you may want to at least take a look at the Meridians. They *do* have a lot of nice features (as do the Garmins).

    1. Drive at least two hours.

    2. Canoe/kayak a moderate distance.

    3. Lock canoe in guarded location.

    4. Hike 5-10 miles over a mountain.

    5. Arrive on the other side of the mountain.

    6. Walk up to the blaze orange cache.

    7. Open the cooler lid, trade, and log.

    8. Walk back, paddle back, and drive home.

Okay, so now, does anybody want to make that cache for me? I'll spot you 1000 round-trip driving miles for the location, but I can be talked into driving farther if necessary. icon_biggrin.gif

  9. If you include the term "hydrocache" in the page somewhere, it'll be all the better. A hydrocache is any cache that you have to go in, on, or under the water to get to, and it's not likely to be found anywhere other than geocaching discussions (unless someone besides myself coined it independantly).

If at some point we get the ability to search the descriptions by keywords, it'll make it really easy to find. Plus, it just sounds neat. icon_wink.gif

If you want to take a look at a list of lots of hydrocaches, see Hydrocaching list..., although I *really* need to pull it back to the top of the list and update it (a lot).
