Count me in for geocaching and waypointing. (Scavenger hunting isn't my style, though.) Seriously, though, that does seem like a rather logical way to split it all up. Whether or not it actually is formalized, I think I'll start using the "waypointing" term right away.

You might want to go to the regional forums and see if you can find someone to tag along with a little. I don't know if anyone there is going to have a receiver you can borrow, but chances are you can find someone to try to catch up to. It's the next best thing, and you get to actually meet another cacher, which is cool as well.

If you wanted to take a peek at something in the upper mid-range area (below the Garmin GPS V, but beside or above it and most others in many respects), take a peek at the Magellan Meridian series. Now, if you are really comfortable with the Garmin user interface, you'll be awkward at first with Magellan's UI, and you may not like the Meridians at all. Still, in the interest of completeness, you may want to at least take a look at the Meridians. They *do* have a lot of nice features (as do the Garmins).

I can hardly believe that including something along the lines of "Colorado, US" or even "Northwest US" is going to let the baddies come get you. If you live like that, I pity you. (Caution is one thing, but not putting *anything*... at least put "Lower Whoville, Seuss, DR" or something.)

Drive at least two hours. Canoe/kayak a moderate distance. Lock canoe in guarded location. Hike 5-10 miles over a mountain. Arrive on the other side of the mountain. Walk up to the blaze orange cache. Open the cooler lid, trade, and log. Walk back, paddle back, and drive home. Okay, so now, does anybody want to make that cache for me? I'll spot you 1000 round-trip driving miles for the location, but I can be talked into driving farther if necessary.

A hydrocache is any cache that you have to go in, on, or under the water to get to, and it's not likely to be found anywhere other than geocaching discussions (unless someone besides myself coined it independantly). If at some point we get the ability to search the descriptions by keywords, it'll make it really easy to find. Plus, it just sounds neat.
