Seeing this thread has reminded me of the wooden nickel collectors that are out there. I have about 20-30 wooden nickels and poker chips various shapes, styles and from different people. I was originally going to place them all in a new cache but figured before I did that I would see if any of you want them. Hiya, it can be confusing for sure. I think the original concept of geocoins was meant to be a personal signature item that was intended to travel from cache to cache. As with anything shiny and pretty, they became collector items. Some people still do buy coins or make coins with the intent for them to be travelers and others just collect the coins. Ones that you find in caches are generally meant to travel from cache to cache. They should not be kept in a personal collection or sold. On a rare occasion you may find a geocoin that someone has left as a surprise. These can be mystery coins, or coins that have not been activated but left for the next cacher to keep and do as they will. The geocoins I have listed are in my personal collection. They have never seen the inside of a cache. Some are activated and some are not. The ones that are activated have been logged into events and such but have never left the security of plastic coin pages. The reason most of these are for sale is because I bought most of them as extras to allow for trading and such. Several are older and harder to find coins or coins that sold out. Therefore I am selling them to allow geocachers (new and seasoned) an opportunity to add them to their collection or purchase them so they can put them in caches. If they are activated I will send an adoption request to the new owner. If you want to check to see if someone is the owner of the coin, check the coin page and it will list who the current owner is. If it is someone other than the person trying to sell the coin i'd be wary of buying the coin. Hope this helps.

Yes Gatoulis, the movie Cars was based off of Nascar (well I guess LOL) I think this is the 53rd Daytona 500 so its been around for a while. And I agree, Gatoulis always makes me smile too

Daytona is one of my favorite tracks! Its been a couple of years since i've been to a Daytona race but it is among my favorite!!! I must say for smaller tracks I miss Rockingham "The Rock" track!
