  1. Is anybody available this coming Saturday (the 7th)?
  2. Hi all. I'm wondering if anybody would like to get together on a Saturday night for a little beer & some caching war stories? Not sure where, but maybe we can find a convenient location for those that RSVP. If you're interested, please leave a note here and then I'll send private emails if we can get a group organized. I'm going to keep this simple and not create an event cache. [edit: I should probably clarify that I don't mean this coming Saturday but one in the near future, to be determined by all involved] [This message was edited by Team Giblert on May 29, 2003 at 07:41 PM.]
  3. Unfortunately there's not much you can do short of emailing the people who logged the bug's cache after it was dropped off (and ask them if they remember seeing it). Maybe somebody grabbed it and forgot to make note. Other than that, I would just sit back and hope it shows up soon.
  4. One could always buy a wireless networking card for your laptop and then simply take advantage of open networks (i.e. war chalking).
  5. Hi there. I too am a Mac person and I recently purchased an eTrex Vista. It comes with a cable but unfortunately it doesn't talk to my Mac. However, I just bought a USB ---> Serial Converter (9-pin RS-232) and that did the trick. They seem to be going for $10-20 US on Ebay and I bought my new for $30 CDN. Good luck!
  6. Gee; I'd be happy if people would actually move any of our travel bugs. The first bug we let in the wild has been in the hands of someone for 2 months now, and one that I released last week (with explicit attached instructions to not be held for more than 48 hours), was picked up by someone, not logged, and now in their hands for 72.... Is it me, or is it that a lot of people out there just don't get it?
  7. Just wanted to say thanks again Team Phoenix. Our way of saying thanks
  8. We'd like to do something, but as I mentioned in a previous post, I'm not sure how many people will be doing organized caching that day because of the previous night's BFL Event (sponsored by Team Phoenix). What were you thinking? Divide and conquer? Have everybody post the total number of garbage bags they removed on this thread? Hmmmm, any ideas?
  9. - please ignore - [This message was edited by Team Giblert on April 11, 2003 at 08:05 PM.]
  10. Is there a standard 'geocachers' freqency on FRS radios? Should we make one? The two of us pretty much always use channel 12, so if there isn't a standard, I'd like to propose channel 12
  11. We'd love to do this. We cached in Vegas a few weeks ago and loved it. Very different than Vancouver/Victoria, BC. Even met a local cacher and yacked with him in the sweltering heat. And yes, it was great to get out of the casinos and experience the outdoors.
  12. Fri 18th would be great w/ us as it will allow both of us to particpate!!
  13. We alternate weekends between Vancouver and Victoria but would be interested in attending if the scheduling worked out. Evenings are also an option. Thanks!
  14. Only one person (GroundClutter bless her FSS soul) was willing to go flash (her BFL) at the top of Mt Doug on Thur night, so the flypast isn't going to have much to videotape....
  15. Sorry, but Team Giblert wont be able to make it this weekend as we're going to be on the mainland. Of course if this means you need lower mainland cache points, we can be bought.....
  16. I need to go for a spin this week anyway, if a group of people would like to gather on top of Mt Doug with their BFLs on say Thurs evening, I'd be more than happy to videotape it from above.
  17. I appreciate what you're saying Dave, but I went and had a look at the cache in question and see that the cache owner did say "log and pencil" only in his/her description so it would be unfair of you to complain afterwards. Personally, I enjoy the hunt far more than the actual contents of a cache and frequently post TNLN. "The thrill of the hunt" as the previous poster said. PS - cute picture on your bio page
  18. Just got back from a trip down south (and a few more caches), and the Alaska Airlines policy explicitly forbids the use of GPS receivers while in flight. It's stated both in the in-flight magazine and even annouced by the FAs !
  19. I managed to pick up a tick on Mt Doug a couple of weeks ago (INSIGNIFICANT BY COMPARISON by TEAM KFWB GPS). The thread method of removal was also suggested by the BC Heatlth guide, but I was unable to do it myself. I resorted to method 2 using tweasers also from the guide. Next time I'll go back to the thread using a straw.
  20. Um, I am aware of the rule about posting far from home. I am thinking of locations that I travel to 2x per year or so, and have back-up people to check up on the caches. Thanks for your concern.
  21. Hi there. I'm waiting for the right moment to place a cache or two on the Chilcotin. Maybe Quesnel and Williams Lake one of these days too. Just need endless time off from work, and sunny weather! I'm in Vancouver so it's a long drive.
  22. I sign with my screen name, and then my personal name underneath (and anybody else who is caching with me that day).
  23. I think there are lots of caches out there that are a bit more "extreme". I'm not sure what you have in mind but I've seen caches that are extremely remote (Antarctica), require boat/float plane access, a major hike, etc. How much more extreme did you have in mind? Personally, I like a walk to my cache, rather than the drive-up and lean out the door kind 'o cache. Interesting question.
