  1. Ok - will give this one a run for the money... Thanks!
  2. You missed the instruction at the very top of the graphic that states: (Create the poiloader sub folder under GSAK as it does NOT exist by default when you install GSAK)". This simply means that you do not have a valid path to the "geocaches.gpx" file, which would result if you did not create the new sub folder or directory first. To resolve this, you must LOCATE the GSAK directory (many times it can be found here c:\program files\gsak or here c:\gsak) and CREATE a NEW directory in it. (RE)NAME the new directory "poiloader" and you should be good to go. 'hope this helps! Steve
  3. Nope.. the green hint is still in the same spot. Nothing changed on it. On line 192, you reference hint. It looks like it just continues from the *long* line above it - after "new line". Maybe this part needs to be moved / edited / etc? Thanks, Steve
  4. Great.. and yes, I do see the difference of Tour Guide and the way the Prox Alerts are set up. I don't do a great deal of routing, but I can see how this could be a major issue for those that do and wish to see what's along the way. As I have admitted weeks ago, I'm not very savvy with macro interpretation. With this in mind, I'm interested in dealing with the hints a little differently than you have the macro set up to do. Many times, while looking for a cache, I will read the cache description or might want to see a few of the log entries - but can't get to the bottom the description text without seeing the decrypted hint on the screen. Ideally, I'd like to do one of several things with it, 1) leave it encrypted, 2) move it in it's decrypted form to a point say, after "X" number of logs - or as the very last text entry for the cache, 3) provide an advance notice of the "hint coming on the next page" (this would be nice regardless of where the hint text goes really) or a last resort, 4) no hints at all. The last is offered only as an escape for not being able to do any of the previous 3 options, as leaving them encrypted would be better than omitting them. Again, you've done a great job with this macro and I know I'm not alone in my appreciation of the many hours of effort that you have put into this work. Thanks! Steve
  5. Excellent work! I noticed on your new google page on the bottom of the first page, you have "Your own choice of metres/miles, but make sure that express is selected. Then press Next." listed. I have changed to custom instead of express and set it up to notify me when I am within 1500 feet of a cache. This way, as I'm driving I receive an alert as to the fact I'm within 1500 feet of a cache, regardless of speed. If I have time, I can hunt it down. I am curious as to what the "express mode" values are - since they aren't spelled out anywhere that I've seen. Secondly, I have run the macro to create 2 sets of POI's. The first has pocket queries of caches I HAVE NOT found, and the other has POI's of those that I HAVE found. I can assign different icons for each type, and choose different values of alerts (if any). Works out nicely!
  6. I've stumbled upon another geocache that crashes the '760. If you get a chance, load: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GCNE02 and see if it crashes your '760 too. I'm not good at interpreting macros, as I've looked at it and can't see where it is messing up. It will probably jump off the page to you. Thanks, Steve
  7. Something must be wrong, on my nuvi I get something like the following: "ShoalCr/Tra/N/G 4.2 NE" I don't have the GCxxx anywhere. Any idea what might be wrong? (Sorry to be such a bother) Double check your "Waypoint name" box. You should have copied "%smart=7/%typ=3/%found/%code%bug=*" (no quotes) into this box. From your results, it looks like the "%smart=7" portion has been changed to "%smart=1". Carefully review the contents of the the parts in the tutorial that instruct you to "copy and paste" into the specific boxes. Make sure you don't reload an erroneous setup file. Then, before you actually run the macro to create the POI for your GPS, make sure that it hasn't been changed back to the "%smart=1" text in the "Waypoint name" box. Once it runs correctly, SAVE the setup to a specific name and use this new setup file for future runs. Good luck!
  8. Ahh, I can see how not being able to edit your own posts can be a problem. I was unaware of the time restriction imposed. The mods must have their reasons for limiting how far back an edit may occur. These may or may not apply to you. I assume that you have asked for this permission and for some reason have been denied. Have you explained to them why you'd like this level of access in detail? They might just grant it if they are made to understand. Failing that, you could direct the people here to a simple text webpage that you create on a public server somewhere, and display the file for either copying & pasting from the screen or downloading the gsk file itself. This way, you retain complete control of the file and versions offered. You only need to update the one file instead of trying to remember every site that hosts it. I can't imagine that you'd exceed the throughput most all free webservers impose with the small files that these macros are. I wonder if you run into too much aggravation here, maybe Clyde at GSAK's forums could assist you in his forums.
  9. First, thanks so much for this great macro. I have several suggestions that I think could help minimize questions. Firstly, go back and edit your previous posts that link to the "version 1.0" of the macro to link to the "version 1.1" instead. As / if this macro continues to be edited for whatever reasons, placing the file on an FTP server or other location of your choosing could help be simply linking to the directory. Having a unique file name could assist greatly, something like "nuvi7xx_v1.2.gsk" or "nuvi6xx_v1.0.gsk" can help prevent accidental downloading and installation of older versions. Compressing to a zip, rar, etc. along with a readme.txt file would allow you to provide additional info, such as your name, changelog and servers on which the latest versions can usually be found, etc., if desired. Including a description in the directory listing of the files will allow interested parties to download the version needed for their particular GPS or needs with little confusion. That's all I have - and again, thanks for your efforts. Steve
  10. Hmm.. I haven't come across a screen like that on my nuvi 760. I leave the the display set to show the map and continually zoom in as I get closer. Eventually, I can turn the unit off and start looking in the general area for "likely" cache hiding locations. I used to think the GPS display would lead me to end up standing on top of the cache - so I'd walk around staring at the display while my wife or friends (not looking at a GPS display) would inevitably yell "I found it!" Grrr... Sooner or later, you'll realize you just want the GPS to get you within 10 to 20 feet of the cache and then rely on past experience of likely places a cache might be. Many times the GPS can have you criss-crossing the area - always indicating the cache is 5 feet over in the *other* direction due to tree cover, etc.
  11. It opens the Export GPX/LOC File page. When that happens I can change the File Name to Create but I can't change the window on the right that says (Select from the most recent) You don't enter this info - it is read from the last time you created & exported. Once you create & export your file for the first time, this window will show that information.
  12. If you've got a nuvi 760 (and probably others in the nuvi line), you've probably noticed that while on (no other buttons pressed like setting destination, etc) and driving, the POIs and waypoints are missing from the map. This is regardless of the map detail setting, or zoom level. These points will display IF you tap the screen. The problem with this is that several undesireable results occur. The map no longer moves and it changes orientation to "2D and North Up." Additionally, while the vehicle icon will continue to move along the road, it will eventually move off the edge of the display. If not moving, POIs and waypoints will display only when 300' or closer level of zoom. It used to work based upon the user's choice of Map Detail Level in tone of the menu selections. Garmin GPS units did not always work this way. I bought my GPS because my experience with a V, Colormap III and 60CSx. Garmin had a history of improving over previous versions. While the 760 is a undoubtedly a great GPS, in some areas it was a step backwards. I called Garmin Support to see if the POI problem could be rectified. I was told it was a "speed sensitive display" because the 760 couldn't update while moving at fast rates of speed. This is unbelievable to me as the older, comparably underpowered units did this with no problem. Then, I was told it was for "safety reasons" that this information wasn't displayed and that "only a few customers used it anyway". This is just like voters telling legislators they do not want seatbelt laws, only to have the legislators enact those laws "for the good of the public". Garmin need not worry about what data we choose to display on the screen and when. This can be fixed in a future firmware update if Garmin chooses. Call Garmin and complain if you agree. Next, the ridiculous claim of an "FM transmitter" If you've attempted to use this "feature" you know what I'm talking about. It is only a selling point, as it so underpowered it isn't usable. My 760 sits on the top of the dash, in full view of a full size AM/FM factory antenna mounted on the fender. Even in rural NH, in portions of the FM band with few broadcast stations, static is prevalent. Even the satellite radios other drivers have with FM transmitters overpower the 760's and come in clearly on my stereo until they pass by. Garmin says it was limited by the FCC on power output and blame crowded FM bands. Does the FCC have a separate power rating for Garmin?? I doubt it. There is a place in setup that will increase the output power to those sold in Europe - but the value defaults back to the lower level after leaving the page. Like the point above, this can be fixed a future firmware update if Garmin chooses. Call Garmin if you agree. If you use the Bluetooth capability of the GPS with your cellphone, you hear people say "What did you say?" and "huh?" a lot. This is because the mic that is built in to the GPS housing is terrible. It too, is only a selling point. This feature only works acceptably for most people with a $15 external mic offered by Garmin (or similar). It should have been included in the box. Complain! Lastly, ever wonder where the CD or DVD software is? Garmin has it - and you can get it for $15. They used to put the disk in the box, it's great to install on your PC to create routes or download breadcrumb trails from the GPS. I highly recommend it. What about the leather case like the one tucked in the box with the nuvi 6xx? Not included with the 7xx, but you guessed it - you can buy one from Garmin. Sirf chipset / WAAS accuracy? Its not mentioned anywhere. Even on the webpage at the bottom of each product's description you can see icons for features. The 600 has a Navteq, WAAS and SIRF icon. The 760 has Bluetooth and Navteq icons only. I've been told by different folks at Garmin tech support that "its always on" to "they don't use the Sirf chipset and have developed their own which is just as good or better" The Sirf chipset is very highly regarded for its abilities, but likely cuts into Garmin profits too much. Hmmm... Call Garmin and complain! The 6xx & 7xx lines were Garmin's most expensive consumer line GPS when released for sale. You wouldn't know it by what's in the box.
  13. The Garmin V Deluxe is a great WAAS GPS. Handheld & waterproof (3' for 30 min) does autorouting too - will work great on the dashboard. I bought one new for $500 in Dec 2003, but while searching for a StreetPilot, found an authorized Garmin dealer on eBay (Radioworld Canada) selling several models of Garmin overhauled (refurbished) models with FULL warranty from Garmin including ver. 8 (ver. 8 came out Aug 06) street mapping software w/ entire US & Canada unlock code. "But It Now" price for the Garmin V Deluxe is usually $170 + $20 shipping & insurance. As mentioned earlier, the Garmin ver. 8 software is licensed for use on up to 2 units. I bought a Streetpilot 3 from this dealer and had zero problems and loaded the software on both of my Garmin units. I'm very happy with the unit and have told several friends about them - the 2 that bought from them also had no problems. Check out the Garmin V Deluxe - regardless of who sells it. Good luck!
  14. Hi All, I was wondering if I'm the only one with this issue. I purchased and activated 4 travel bugs a while ago. Now, when I want to place them, my page shows (4) "travel bug" entries. Which one is which ?? Is there an easy way to tell one from another?? Thanks!
