  1. It means the owner declined to state what size the cache is. I think the name of it may have just changed to "Not Listed". Check your GSAK column that is titled "Container". Thanks!
  2. Hi- What is the "Not Chosen" category cache? I'm running the 7.3.3 macro version and I never noticed this before - did I just miss it or is this something new? Steve
  3. It is limited only by the amount of free available memory on/in (SD card) with your nuvi. On my 760, I have installed a 4g SD card. On it, I have some 124k POI (4K of which are caches w/ 5 logs - the rest are locations of: Home Depot, Lowes, Dunkin Donuts, Bank of America ATMs, Quiznos, All the 144mhz, 440mhz, 29mhz and 50mhz ham radio repeaters in the entire USA, etc - you get the idea) Also on the card, I have the 2009 maps for the US, a couple dozen or so photos, and about 300 MP3 music files. Does that help?? Steve Yes thanks - so in principle you can store quite a few caches as POI assuming that you don't fill your nuvi with all sorts of other stuf! BINGO! The side effect of storing such a large amount of data is that it does tend to slow down the unit when selecting a category of POIs to display. Not a huge amount, but it is noticeable. Also, the time to load PQs, run the macro and time to transfer to the GPS increase proportionately. Enjoy!

  5. Thanks for the super quick fix for the child icon display!
  6. I'm having issues with PARKING AREA and TRAIL HEAD icons failing to display properly. They're back to displaying the "parent" icon instead of the icon for the child. Three such (one of each type) are: TRAIL HEAD (07KBJ8) child of GCKBJ8 and PARKING AREA (01KBJ8) child of GCKBJ8 and PARKING AREA (0210NG7) child of GC10NG7 The icons for both are present. TIA! Steve
  7. New firmware for Nuvi 760 (maybe other 7XX too) from Garmin. Maybe the Tourguide crashes will be fixed with this one.. new version 4.0 http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection....ct=010-00657-10 or use your Garmin "WebUpdate Wizard" to download & install.

  9. Actually, I just copied the DEFAULT database to new databases "60Csx", "760" and "680". This creates directories of the same name in c:\POI_LOADER (instead of "DEFAULT). The only trouble is they must be cleared prior to running GSAK to load updated PQ's. I'll see how this works out for now - thanks. Steve Steve - search the macro for all the instances of POI_Loader and you will understand the magnitude of the change. The path format takes several different forms depending on the function. It's doable but would be a lot of rework. After you run the macro why don't you just rename "POI_Loader" to "Her Data" or something like that? I could add an option to do that in the macro for you - the folder would be in your gsak install folder. Would that work?
  10. jjreds: I'm very grateful for the effort that you have been putting forth supporting and improving the macro. It has taken our (wife & I) enjoyment of geocaching to the next level. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I have a scenario that you might consider addressing if time permits: I have 3 Garmin GPSr's. Nuvi 680, Nuvi 760 and GPSMap 60Csx They work great with GSAK and their respective macros. The GPSMap60Csx macro I use (Nuvi60CsxGarminCsvPoiExport.gsk by javapgmgr) allows selection of the output directory. This, is extremely handy as it prevents accidental overwriting of POI files with a destination intended for my other devices. The 680 is my wife's GPSr, and the 760 is mine. Her desire for geocache info on her GPSr is similar to mine - however - that is where the similarities end. I have other data (ham radio repeaters, ATMs and others) that she doesn't want to be bothered with hearing about or cluttering her GPSr display. I can understand that - but it does require forethought to prevent database contamination. I have failed on more than one occasion. A configurable destination directory that could be selected based on the users: data, device, location(s), etc. would be most helpful. This is just something to consider "in your spare time" <grin> I know that will break the silent POI loader option as written - but even some direction as to where I might edit the macro myself would be great (I don't use the silent option anyway). Thanks, Steve
  11. Ok - here's one... Does the "Update" macro button work? It just sits there after I press it. I have to cancel it, then <CTRL-ALT-DEL> and kill GSAK. I can manually start Firefox and navigate to the page and download it *much* faster. Am I the only one that sees this - or am I too impatient? Steve
  12. I am going to change the storage location for the TourGuide files. I should have known better than to use a GSAK system folder, I had reservations when I did it. Apparently GSAK is deleting the Temp folder in some installations. I will post an update. Thanks for finding this, I'm sure others are having the same problem. Man - I'm glad it wasn't just me. I was going 'round and 'round with this. I should have spoken up sooner! I'll have to check this out when I get home. Thanks for the quick work! Steve
  13. Firstly, great work on this macro. You've done Pilotsnipes proud - I'm sure. Secondly, great work (see a trend?) Anyway... I've been following along here - and all seems to be working very well - except that I can seem to stop the macro from overwriting MY icons. I have my own 24x24 that I prefer to use but I can't seem to keep them. I don't know if it's because of an updated macro or whatnot. Sometimes, I *think* I'm all set - but get errors and eventually fail the macro due to not being able to find xxx.bmp. Very frustrating to say the least. I ve tried the check box to use my own icons - but it doesn't seem to work. Is there a list of icons that the macro creates? And how can I stop the macros icons? Thanks, Steve
  14. New Garmin Unit Software Update for nuvi 7xx series was released on July 8. This update brings the unit software (for the 760 anyway) to version 3.10. Unfortunately, there is no mention of fixes for unit crashes. Changes made from version 3.00 to 3.10: * Improve handling of the situation where overlapping map data is present on the device. * Fixed fleet management interface route calculation issue. I'm at work and can't test right now, but it's probably a good idea to update to resolve those issues mentioned. This update is free to use and download, and is available here: http://www8.garmin.com/support/blosp.jsp The recommended (comprehensive) method to update unit software AND voices, text, etc. is done by using the "Garmin WebUpdater" which is also free to use and download. It is available here: http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp Steve
  15. jjreds didn't come up with the idea of different icons for different POI's.. and I'm not suggesting that jjreds's be used. Supplying several icons of the same image - but with several different names (one for each type cache you care to support as simple placeholders) would suffice. The user could then substitute any one or all with those of their own choice, design, etc. Heck, the default icon could be a simple colored dot. For me, a combination of features offered in both yours and jjreds work would be ideal - I suspect other people would agree with me on this, too. The full text of caches, up to 10 logs and hint option that you have integrated is just fantastic. I doubt even Garmin saw that coming. I believe the availability of specific icons to be married to different classes if POIs is something however, that Garmin did foresee and planned. There are websites devoted to POI lists and icon libraries for them (see http://www.poifriend.com/), so I don't think you are stepping on jjreds toes (or anyone else for that matter) here. jjreds created a script to maximize the potential of the 60Csx. (S)he has done an outstanding job with the hardware with which (s)he had to work. Your work with the more technically advanced nuvi however, is far beyond what could be done with the 60Csx. There is much more hardware and memory with which to work with on the nuvi's. The foundation for both is the same: POIs with different icons for each. You've created a very advanced script that will be hard to build upon - I encourage you to incorporate Garmin's POI / icon flexibility into your script's foundation. Thanks for listening! Steve
  16. Pilotsnipes, As usual, kudos on the script. It's been working very well, but I have a scenario that maybe you could help me out with. I have the latest script, pocket queries for caches and found caches. I run the script and upload w/poiloader. All is good. I found that all the caches are listed with the same icon. As I find more and more - it's harder to remember which I've found already. Since the 760 often crashes if I look at the text, I hate trying. Can I strip out the icon that is included with the script? Or, should I do it another way (multiple input files - one for found caches and one for others? As of now, when I see a caches on the 760 screen, I switch on my 60Csx and the icon will instantly tell me if I've found it already - and even the type (micro, traditional, mystery, found, etc.) if it is a "yet to be found" cache. The 60Csx uses GSAK and the "Nuvi60CsxGarminCsvPoiExport.gsk" script and "Nuvi60CsxIcons.zip" icons files, and both were obtained from the GSAK macro library. Search for "60" in the macro search box (BTW - why isn't your script there??). As far as I'm concerned, this is about the only thing in the way of making your script 100% complete. I think that having specific icons for found caches or size / type for those yet to be found to be displayed on screen would be the best feature to be added to this amazing script. I'm sure this is no quick edit - so please understand I'm not merely casually mentioning it as if it were a 15 minute edit, I'm sure it would be time consuming - if possible at all. BTW - any idea about what Garmin is doing to solve the crashing on 760?? Best Regards, Steve
  17. There is an external mic available for this device and works a bit better than the one built in to the GPS. The jack for it is located on the side of the cradle. It takes a microphone connected by mono (not stereo) mini plug. Inspect the cradle and you'll find it. Any cheapo mic with the right connector will work. Garmin does sell a compact one with a few simple mounts included for $10 or so if memory serves me correctly. Location of the mic is crucial - closer to your mouth / further from the speaker - the better your results will be. Good luck! Steve
  18. Scratch the FM transmitter. Sadly, the FM xmitter is woefully underpowered. My Nuvi 760 is in clear sight of the vehicle's AM/FM antenna. There is no more than 3 feet of air between the two (not including the windshield glass - which is just glass). Adjacent frequency radio stations off in the distance and *other* vehicle FM transmitters easily jam the Nuvi's signal into my stock antenna / radio. Complaints to Garmin go nowhere - they maintain it is the result of FCC laws (that apparently only apply to them - everyone else's xmitter seems to work just fine). The 760 speaker is too small for decent quality audio for BT connections, use the Nuvi's audio out jack to a cassette adapter or other way into your vehicle's sound system - that is the only way to get quality audio out of the device. Good luck! Steve
  19. Have you (or anyone else) tried the new firmware (v 3.0) from Garmin for the Nuvi 7xx yet? It can be had via WebUpdater or here: http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3811 The change log for 3.0 indicates: Corrected issues with GPI files causing unit crashes In addition to other fixes / enhancements. I'm hoping the manual alerts will now work.. I installed the update but haven't attempted to try it yet (at work now). Steve
  20. Ok - I can do that. How is the issue best communicated to them? Something like: When creating a tour guide, custom alert values don't work? (or do you have a better way to present the issue??)
  21. Pilotsnipes: The http://pilotsnipes.googlepages.com/index.html webpage has a May 21 date at the top still - you might want to update it to reflect the new 1.2 script download availability and steps. Did the new script resolve the tourguide alert feature issue for the Nuvi 7xx series - or does this require a fix from the wonderful folks at Garmin? Steve
  22. Absolutely fantastic (no, not the TV show either)! It's like Christmas in May! Thanks again for your efforts on creating & updating this script.
  23. Pilotsnipes: Wow - you've covered a great deal of ground in the last week - very impressive! This project of yours continues to be a great help for new GPS users (and veterans alike) interested in Geocaching. I noticed that you incorporated my request to provide the placement of the "hints" in one of two locations in the script. I haven't installed the the caches on my GPS yet - but I ran everything on the PC to try it out. I did not see a point when running the script where I was asked where the hints should go. After opening the new script in GSAK for editing, I saw the "true / false" variable for the location of "hints" - and I manually edited it. I re-ran the "Nuvi" script again without incident, so editing the variable does not break the script. I'm sure that when the resulting "tour guide" file is transfered w/ POILoader, it will place the hints at the end (I just don't have the GPS with me today to verify) of the log as expected. Since there is no mention of how to change the location of the hints, I suggest that either a) provide the option to allow changing the location when the script is run, or direct the user to manually edit the script variable on the http://pilotsnipes.googlepages.com/index.html page. I'm going to have to go back home and grab my GPS and try this out... Again - thanks! Steve
  24. You missed the instruction at the very top of the graphic that states: (Create the poiloader sub folder under GSAK as it does NOT exist by default when you install GSAK)". This simply means that you do not have a valid path to the "geocaches.gpx" file, which would result if you did not create the new sub folder or directory first. To resolve this, you must LOCATE the GSAK directory (many times it can be found here c:\program files\gsak or here c:\gsak) and CREATE a NEW directory in it. (RE)NAME the new directory "poiloader" and you should be good to go. 'hope this helps! Steve Thank you so very much for your help. Loaded some caches on my nuvi and now just have to find some time to go cach'n. Ron No problem at all! I can get around PC / Windows problems w/o too much difficulty - it's the macros and other work Pilotsnipes does that leaves me clueless.. I figure if I can help answer the PC / Windows questions, he can spend time on problems that are specific to the work he's doing. Have fun!
  25. Pilotsnipes: The modified macro you provided is 100% functional and is perfect for my (and others, too I suspect) needs. No more ::spoilers:: of decrypted hints between the description & log entries. Thanks tons! Steve
