  1. I know this is bringing up an old topic, but I too am a bit disappointed at the loss of being able to use the watch list. And before anyone says “there is a link to it” I’m also aware of that, and followed the link, and found my watchlist. But I can’t find how to add new caches to my watchlist.

    edit. Found it ?

  2. I have just downloaded the full app from the App Store, after using the free version for a couple of weeks. One of the features is to save to offline list. Am I right in assuming that having done that I can use the app to navigate to a saved cache even without wifi or 3G.

Also, if I install the full app on my iPad as well as my iPhone, could I look for caches on the larger screen, save offline, then sync to my iPhone?

I worked out you had an iphone... But NOT which model.

    Hence, my reply:

Yes. (If your phone has GPS capabilities)

In case you had a model that didn't have GPS capability.

When asking for help, it's a big HELP to supply the full information.

That way we can help you with the correct information...

    :)

    No worries

  3. What phone, which app?

Don't know.Suspect not, it probably saves it on the device, so is not accesable by the other device.

Hmm. iPhone, as mentioned in original post and Groundspeak app

    thj

You used the term App Store which is the iOS. However many refer the Play Store for Android as App store. The term App like Xerox and others has become generic. In fact Google has an icon on its home page that says apps which applies to applets it uses for various uses. So your "Hmm. iPhone, as mentioned in original post" assumption comes across a little snooty. Not uncommon for iOS users.

Hmm again. I also used the "Term" iPhone. Can't put it much clearer than that. And I don't understand your generalisation "Not uncommon for IOS users" and it's not being snooty. It's being "why don't people read the whole post before replying"

  4. The apps will not sync between iPad and iPhone (other than personal cache notes)

So. If you are interested in offline lists (NOT PQs) then this is how you do it.:

Open your app, look for new caches to get to the map. Scroll your map to your desired location and hit the little magnifying glass on the lower left that says "New search from here"

The app will bring up 10-30 caches (depending on what your personal settings are). Hit the (...) on the upper right-hand corner and you will see a '+ load more results' option. You can hit this button till kingdom come and load as many caches as you'd like. When you've reached a reasonable amount, hit the (...) again and select "-+ safe to off-line list"

Then you create a new list (top button),name it and be done with it all. It will be in your saved tab that you access from the bottom.

    Done

That's brilliant thanks. I thought I would have to save them all individually. Thanks again :D

  7. Hi, I am really new to geocaching, with 3 finds to my name so far. Whilst browsing the cache map I found a few Puzzle caches. I know it's probably a bit soon for me to be looking at these, but as I was browsing anyway I decided to have a look. Part of the description was a puzzle to find the co-ordinates, using a phone keypad. This is the puzzle:

Then using the keypad of a mobile phone the cache can be found at

    N51 2 (3rd) .(1st-6th) (2nd) (1st-2nd) W3 1 (4th) . (8th) (4th) (7th-6th)

I do know about co-ordinates, but I have absolutely no idea how to work them out from that.To me, the third key is 3, the first is 1, and the sixth is 6. But if that were the case, then the northerly co-ordinate would be N51 23. (one minus six) 2 (one minus 2) which makes no sense at all. I also have the iGCT app, but can't find anything on there to help decrypt.

For future reference (maybe) it would be interesting to know how this works.

  8. True, you cannot pick 'n choose caches with the Intro-app.

The app searches for you based upon parameters already installed. One of the primary parameters that it accessed only "beginner caches", those that are rated as being very easy to find/get to.

Understand that it is designed to give somebody a "taste" of geocaching, nothing more.

If you want to move on in the recreation, you must move beyond the Intro-app.

Just so you know... upgrading to Premium Membership through the app does nothing to enhance the app. It will not increase the caches or cache-types supplied by the app.

You need the full (paid) app if you wish to receive any benefit granted by Premium Membership.

--just trying to save you money--

If I get the full app do I also get premium membership? Or are the two separate?

    The two are separate.

There is little or no benefit to get Premium Membership with the intro app!

(And just to confirm, IF you want the full app, go to the Apple Store to purchase it! DON'T try to do it via the app.)

If I decided to get the full app, what then would be the main benefits of premium membership. I doubt that I would ever want to place my own caches. Though you never know.

  10. Hi, I am really new to geocaching, with just 2 finds so far. I have registered on the geocaching website, and downloaded the intro (free) app to my iPhone 3GS. On the website, when looking at the details of a cache from the map, there is an option to "send to iPhone". I have my iPhone connected to my computer vie the USB cable, but when I click on this "send" button, nothing happens on the phone. On the computer it says "sending". Is it because I only have the free version of the app?

    Thanks
