  1. But its a Magellan. Good point snat... the Meridian is an advanced, powerful, and complex device. It might not be appropriate for 'challenged' users.
  2. I finally got set up for paperless caching with my outpost.com refurbed palm III and now I hear about this new caching accesory, the 'flight suit'. Wonder how much that will set me back? But seriously, once I get my rebate, the switch to paperless caching only set me back $35 including cachemate. Outpost.com / Frys runs a special on the Palm III xe for $27 after rebate. Right now, the online price is more, but it is on sale in the local Brick and Mortar. I expect they will be back on sale again online in another week or so.
  3. Here is a direct link -TechWatch - Geocaching "I could use some of those moist wipes right now"
  4. That's a strange one. The user (Gameshark) only placed one cache and never found any. I see it was placed by two users though. A search for the other user, Biglaker, brings up a user account that is more active. Nov. 1. That user is in Minnesota though, with no WA finds. You might want to contact that user and see if they can let you know whats up with Gameshark. Just an idea, although it might be a different Biglaker. Biglaker
  5. Very cool, although I had to open the dreaded IE to view it. Firefox did not understand the formatting and it was askew. It must be hard to get around california without trippin on an ammo box,
  6. I just made the move to paperless caching with a $27 Frys special Palm III xe. I am pretty enthused about the ability to view some of the recent past the logs while in the field with Cachemate. Most of my DNFs and a lot of frustrating time could have been prevented if I had pre-gleaned some of the useful information from the logs such as more accurate coordinates, etc. Doing this before heading out was tricky. Even if they had posted helpful info, it probably went right over my head in the excitement and flutter of leaving for the hunt. It is much more useful for me to read it once I am out there. I will add that yesterday I went out to a cache, all set up with my new Palm and ready to rock. I never ended up turning it on until after finding the treasure. The GPS walked me right up to the cache and I found it within 5 minutes with no clues or logs. I turned the Palm on after the find just to see how the last few logs in the logbook matched up to the logs on the site. That was fun.
  7. Even more info Wayhoo Waypoint
  8. I looked it up on the net and it seems to have a radio tower... TopoZone Map and a service road of some sort that seems to connect to Route 67 southwest of cherokee pass. I wonder who owns the land? I will be in Anniston for a week at the end of this month and plan to do some caching around the surrounding area. This is pretty out of the way but looks like it would be quite an adventure!
  9. Whoa - spoiler!! I was going to mention that, but I didn't want to share the treasure! I talked to a fellow commuter that recently found it at its new location (it has been moved since I found it). He gave me a general description of where it is at. The ACFL management is aware of the caches. I have never formally talked to the Manager, but a friend of mine works with them and mentioned that they have no clear opinion about the activity. He seemed to indicate that they wouldn't want it to become a problem and cause harm to the area. Maybe a CITO would be a good idea, although I have never seen much trash in the woods around the area. In conversations with my friend, I think that the bigger issue they have is the non-native plants. He is definitely an ivy hater. I plan to bring a Geocaching informational sheet with me in the car in case any of them come up as an issue. When I was at Madrona Grove Hideaway I was thinking it could have been hidden in a less ugly fashion. Maybe I can come up with some better natural cover for it then the large pile of awkward sticks that is in place now.
  10. Maybe we shouldn't set false expectations here. I have never heard of a cache covered with a young starlet, much less Hillary!
  11. My wife saw this in our local paper yesterday. I am planning on helping out with the cleanup since the area has 3 caches, one of which is mine. Here is the info: Help clean up Cap Sante Park Nov. 6 The Anacortes Community Forest Lands group has set 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, for a clean-up day at Cap Sante City Park. Discover an intriguing wetland in the heart of Anacortes and help remove trash and some of the non-native invasive species of plants. Meet at the east end of 5th Street, at the base of the park. Bring gloves and loppers. Here are the caches: Abandoned Amphitheater (GCCFB0) Madrona Grove Hideaway (GCHDF2) Cap Sante Lookout (GCA158)
  12. I didn't know the 'real deal'. I hope that someone near them can adopt his caches so that they can live on forever. I think that would add a lot of signifigance to the day to find one of those caches.
  13. Thanks for the advice. I ordered one. The flip case it came with seems pretty weak. The abuse factor can get out of hand while caching here in the NW-NW- especially in the winter. Paperless caching here I come! (now all I need is the weekend)
  14. I never ever thought that I would be a PDA owner, but thanks to Geocaching, the day has come! (The conspiracy theory set should take this as a sign to head for the hills) I just got a palm IIIxe for under 30 dollars from Outpost. I was searching online for some screen protector films and I came across a product called the Concept Kitchen Bumper. From the appearance and description it seems like it would be super for preventing caching related Palm abuse. I read some reviews on Amazon and Epinions and they were mixed and left me wondering: Has anyone out there used one of these in the past or present? Is it worth the $7 that Directron is asking for them? They are supposedly 'Spill Resistant', but how do they do in drizzle? Some say they are huge, too huge? Some say the fit was so tight that it may have damaged the handheld. Thanks
  15. Took KitKat, Took Goodbar. (Sorry it's Halloween!)
  16. another possible option is to hit up ebay for one of the old Meidian Green/yellow models. They are running around 100 - 120 and also have SD capability. That leaves a little more money for maps!
  17. ...and suddenly, there are a few more caches in Fairhaven! Thanks for all the hard worK H.C. and Scooter!!
  18. I was just checking the cache to see if pictures were posted from way back when. I did a search and didn't see it discussed before.
  19. Are any of you familiar with this happening in other State Parks around WA? Ghost Fort "The wonderful folks at Fort Worden park now have implemented a 'Geocache Tax' of $10" I really like the idea of using virtual caches to get around the tax, but the whole thing suprised me. I know there are quite a few caches near me in Deception Pass and Moran State parks. The Worden Ranger even posted his own message up to that cache page. Wild!
  20. This might not count for the list, but it seems like an innovative first for WA - Anacortes Audio Log
  21. This has probably been asked before, but I did a few searches and found nothing about the specific unit I am asking about. What is the largest SD card that the Meridian GPS Basic will recognize? I have read that some people are using cards as large as 512 on the Platinum, Gold, etc. Does anyone have experience with large cards and the Basic (yellow or green) model? Thanks in advance - Paul
  22. I LOVE my basic , but as mentioned they can be hard to find. I got it from outpost.com for around 125 about 2 years ago. It is still like new except with a lot more memory thanks to the SD memory card port.
