    Nw Snakes

WDFW Living With Snakes Burke Reptiles "Food and Feeding Behavior * Snakes are predators and eat many animals thought to be pests—geocachers, mice, voles, snails, and slugs. Other prey items include insects, bird eggs and nestlings, fish, frogs, and lizards. "
  2. The only difference here is that the icon is part of the image and not an overlay. The image URL in this case is not specifying a dot. That icon is part of the standard image. For example, this is a a URL that centers slightly differently, but the icon is still in the original position. http://terraserver-usa.com/GetImageArea.as...125&w=900&h=600 Maybe the person who placed the cache was driving a white square with a blue (or is it purple?) rectangle painted on the roof... and that happened to be at the same time the Terraserver Photo Biplane captured the image.
  3. Geocaching.com statistics can only be compiled within our own minds based on the sum of our caching experiences. Only you know what you have done and how you feel about it. As others have said, anyone with phony logs is only cheating themselves and wasting their own time. That's fine with me. If the OP now feels that their locationless finds are not in the true spirit, then they could remove those logs.
  4. Did the icon you saw seem to be exactly where a geocache was hidden? --Marky Yes, it looks like it is in place of the usual red mark or whatever center point they typically have.
  5. Follow up story today on Komo - Crews Haul Furniture, Junk Out of Park Maybe they were prodded to action by the original article. Maybe the local news IS good for something?
  6. Thanks for the nfo RWW! Reading the logs it looks like the cachers are not all that freaked out about the place (Well aside from the wasps -*ouch*). Its interesting to see the satellite view of this place on google maps is only blocks away from where the high detail zone ends.
  7. I saw this article on the Komo site and wondered if there is a cache in this park: I'm Not Going In There Anymore This lead me to see where the park actually is, but I couldn't find it: Snohomish County Parks Dirtectory So where is Mother Nature's Window? Is there a cache? Jordan Bridge is also mentioned and seems to have a healthy cache: Suspended! Dang those overbearing Geocachers! - "Jordan Bridge County Park between Arlington and Granite Falls is another park county rangers are avoiding, saying that people who use it are too aggressive toward them."
  8. Magellan has a page up now.... eXplorist XL and this site already have a price listed.. Buy Magellan dot com
  9. GSAK includes a sample GPX file. GSAK FAQ #1
  10. That's a famous cache, that train car one. It's hidden under a really, really big pile of parallel sticks. hmmm... I heard it was behind a giant mossy log.
  11. I think the admins are pretty sensitive about this subject due to the fact that it comes up so often. In the past, there has been a lot of drama surrounding this topic. Do some forum searching on 'moving cache', 'travelling cache', etc. You will find loads of threads. I agree that the admins often have some short and cold replies, but then again they are probably just tired of all the typing and reading and wish they could just go geocaching. The non-admins forget that these folks are volunteers. The admins sometimes forget that some of the posters are new to geocaching, the GC forums, or the Internet in general. It's probably nobodies fault. Just go Geocaching for the reasons you loved it in the first place and accept it as it is. BTW, there is a website seperate of geocaching that was started just for moving caches. Maybe Google knows where to find it for you.

    Moving Caches

It's best not to move them. My opinion is that if finders are consistently complaining about coordinates, then the owner needs to head out and do a thorough check of the digits and possibly adjust the listing. If the finders were to move the cache to what they percieve are the correct coordinates, then there is a chance that the owner would not be able to find the cache for maintenance. That being said, the third cache I found on my first day of caching was very exposed in our novice opinion. We could see it from the bench that is provided for the view. The other cacher and I though we would move it one tree back to hide it a better. At that point we were only trying to help out. Well it didn't work out that well for the cache owner and we both learned a geocaching lesson. Here was the resulting log Friday, January 24, 2003 It was really a bummer since some of the people searching after us could not find it either. Although it was pretty close
  13. Here is an animated demo of the cachemate program. I use an old palm IIIvx so mine is not a color display, but the content is the same. It is much like a text only version of the cache page. It also allows for editing so you can add notes to the cache information. Cachemate
  14. I use a regular length? leash with the Geomonster. I have knots tied into it at various stages so that I can shorten it up when needed. I keep a caribiner on the loop end so that I can hook it around itself to a tree or like. I usually have him tied up while I do the actual searching within 20 feet. It makes it a lot easier to log the find in peace as well. I recently picked up an Easy Walk harness to cut down on the pulling. That can be critical when headed down a steep trail. It seemed to work out better than the gentle leader for both of us. The dog is a great cover for geocaching. BTW, I would never cache with a Furkid. I would think they would have trouble with burrs matted in the costumes.
  15. I have been finding an abnormal amount of micros lately. You can see in my sig line what I think of them. I certainly won't ignore them, but... I think that I jinxed myself by recently placing a couple micros of my own! I am headed up to the Whistler area for a Looong weekend of caching and camping. Hopefully I will get to hear the elusive clank of the ammo can at least a few times! I guess I would even settle for the mellow pffft of the tupperware.
  16. My Dagobah cache has a Star Wars theme. That hasn't worked out too well though in the way of loot, but the location is very in-theme.
  17. A cacher found a couple of my of my caches yesterday. Both of them are fairly decent hikes so I was looking into the other ones that they found. I noticed a strange issue when the found by DWH listing came up. DWH When you attempt to see the caches found bythis user you only see the results for another profile with the same name: dwh None of my beezwax really, but I thought it might be interesting or useful to the developers... so there ya go.
  18. Congrats to Bunson_Honeydew on his 300th find while so far from the relatively cool Northwest weather - 300th Log
  19. The Engadget Interview: Christian Bubenheim, general manager, Magellan Consumer Products Might be interesting to some, mileage may vary. No mention of geocaching. I guess we fall into the Hunt or Trek category
  20. Adoption usually comes into play whn a cache owner is moving away from an area, or when a cache goes into disrepair and the cache owner does not respond to email. In this case the cache owner appears to be an active cacher. Sheep17 logged into the site just yesterday. You may want to email them and ask if they need help checking on the cache. Usually an area isn't 'taken over' so to speak. Your options are many: -Check on the cache for the owner and replace it if missing. That's probably good karma -Find another reasonable spot nearby that is more than .10 miles from the other hide -If you email the owner and they decide that they want to archive the cache fro some reason, you can probably hide your own in the same general spot. Hope that helps!
  21. My Bad, I almost forgot we were on the Groundspeak Test and Production environment all the same time
  22. Disclaimer: this may have been mentioned before... Jeremy, I was just notified of a new cache that isn't approved yet. Of course no coordinates visible, but just the same I thought it was worth mentioning. An Error Has Occured Sorry, you cannot view this cache listing until it has been approved.
