What good does it do to remove this shield?

The shield I have has an imperfection on it that did not work itself out after a few days or "drying". So, it will need to be replaced. Thus, the reason for asking about removal. Anyway, called them today and am getting a replacement sent. They are GREAT to deal with.

  2. Lifetime Replacement Guarantee

The invisibleSHIELD purchase includes a lifetime replacement guarantee. We want you to feel safe and secure when investing in your digital life, and are confident that the invisibleSHIELD is the strongest and most durable protection you will find. Purchasing an invisibleSHIELD will protect your investment for the life of your device.

The lifetime replacement guarantee is simply what it says. If your invisibleSHIELD ever becomes scratched, torn or damaged in any way while protecting your device, we will replace the invisibleSHIELD for free, for life.

Hopefully you registered it, but even if not, I think they will work it out for you.

If you order from them by calling (or from their website), you are automatically registered (the purchase order number is your registration number). Had to get a replacement for mine and called them today and that is what they told me.

  3. I'm still using Mapsouce v6.11.6 and GPS 60CSx software v3.10 due to some of the problems that were reported on here originally with v6.12 and v3.2. Also Garmin tech support recommended that I not update until some of the bugs were worked out of them. Since newer updates have come along now are any of you experiencing problems with these latest updates available v6.13.3 and v3.30?

    Another question.

I use several Custom Maps and share some with others who use older model GPSrs, even black and white Etex models. I know that Mapsource v6.12.3 saves everything to a .gdb3 file and once converted from .gdb2 to .gdb3 it is not reversible. The older Mapsource versions used a .gdb2 file. Will I still be able to load .gdb3 files that contain Custom Maps to older model GPSrs such as the original Extrex Vista (black & white screen)?

This last question may play no bearing in how the .img files are loaded but I wanted to be sure before updating something that would take some time to undo.

Thanks very much for any input.

I upgraded Mapsource and my 60CSx when the updates first came out and have had no problems at all.

  4. Changing color of tracks is no problem

But i cannot change color of routes

    How-To change color of tracks:

    menu-menu-tracks

select saved track and press enter

    change color

    select "show on map"

Ooopsss...my mistake. Misread the question. My quick flyovers are not always the best when it comes to comprehension.

I know that under the display settings, you can change to a night time display, but I sure could not find anything about changing the color of an active route.

  5. Try Thomas Distributing for batteries and chargers. http://www.thomas-distributing.com

Best source that I have seen.

I purchased a good quality electronic charger from them and have had good luck with the Energizer

batteries. Looking to switch to the ENELOOPS now though.

Yep....I second that recommendation on Thomas Distributing. Have purchased batteries and chargers from them and have been very pleased. Great company to deal with.

  6. Hi Everyone -

just doing a quick poll for those that own a 60 CSX. I have had my unit for about 8 months, and noticed in the last 2 months the unit was getting more and more difficult to power on and off. You had to press the button a certain way in order for it to power on. Then just prior to a trip (of course) the unit would not power on at all. After a few hours if i pressed the power on button to the side extremely hard, it did power on but its touchy. I did call Garmin and they advised some of the earlier models were having problems with the power switch. I am sending it in for warranty work (shipping is my cost however), and just wondered of if anyone else had this issue occur.

    Thanks!

Nope...have not had that type of problem with mine. I have had my 60CSx since November.

  7. Thanks a bunch for all the input ! Just ordered the Garmin 60csx, will be here in 3 days ! paid $341 for it.

My friend owns the Magellan and it's a very nice unit for the price but my 60CSX is as good or better in accuracy, is quicker, has an electronic compass and color screen, and IMO has a better interface. Is it worth the extra $200? I guess that's up to the person. I think it is because of all the features I listed plus it's a handheld that's good enough to use for navigation while driving (I have the optional US Mapsource software). You got a good price too - I searched and searched and I paid $342 to the door for mine. Did you get the window mount as well? I like it and it was only $18 or so.

The 60CSx is the only game in town for geocaching, in my opinion. I have had mine since Nov 2006 and just love it.

  8. I agree on the powerEX's. They are gerat. Also, energizers from walmart so suck. Not all batteries are created equal and the mainstream rechargeables suck as far as I can tell.

I use my Garmin GPSmap 60CSX all the time and am constantly on the search for the best batteries for it. I had started using Energizer rechargables, but that was a disaster. Right out of the charger they did well, but more than a few days on the shelf and they lasted less than 3 hours. On recommendations in this forum I then bought the MAHA Powerex 2700s and have been very happy with them - good shelf life and run for a very long time. Then I saw people here recommending the Sanyo eneloop 2000s so decided to give them a try. Also a good battery with very respectable run-time. Out of curiosity, I decided to test the batteries. Here are the results:

Powerex 2700 straight out of the charger - lasted 22hours, 13 Minutes

Powerex 2700 after sitting on the shelf for a month - lasted 18 hours, 15 minutes

eneloop 2000 straight out of the charger - lasted 17 hours, 53 minutes

eneloop 2000 after sitting on the shelf for a month - lasted 15 hours, 7 minutes

(this was done in Normal GPS mode, WAAS off and compass on, although the unit was vertical most of the time so the compass was probably disabled automatically.)

As you can see, the Powerex beats the eneloop, both have respectible times both off the shelf and out of the charger. As far as I can tell, the only real difference is that the eneloop is only 2000 mAh and the Powerex is 2700 mAh. If Sanyo makes a 2700 mAh eneloop, it will give powerex a run for its money.

Either way, both are good batteries and the advantage of the eneloop is that you can find them in most stores, I have only been able to get Powerex through mail order.

    Brian

P.S. In addition to Energizers, I have also tried Duracell and Sony rechargables, with similar results to the energizers.

Agree with the assessment on the Energizers. Had terrible experiences with them. I know use the Sanyo 2700 mah NiMH and keep the eneloops as backup...

  9. 128mb Sandisk that came with the unit. I removed and reinstalled the memory card, but had the same result at almost the exact same spot.

You may have already tried this, but could you reformat the card? I know that is a real shot in the dark...but may be worth a try to see if it resolves the problem.

  10. I have a Garmin GPSMap 60CSx. When you hit the 'FIND' button, it brings up the waypoints and geocaches. Currently they display in alphebetical order. Is there any way to change the order according to whether it is a waypoint or a geocache? (I want to have the waypoints come up first in the listing, followed by the geocaches). There probably is a way to do this...but I have not figured it out.

Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

  11. Just curious...when I turn on my Garmin GPS 60CSX after it has been off for a day or so, it takes about 45 seconds to get a fix on my location. If I turn it off and then turn it back on a few minutes later or even a few hours later, it gets my fix really fast. I know that is normal from the descriptions in the manual. However, what is the technical reason for the difference?

    Thanks!

  12. A friend of mine shared this on the Garmin's (not a big deal, but if you want the detailed tracks, you may want to keep the track active until you download to your computer:

I discovered this last week while in Big Bend Ranch. If you use a Garmin GPS, do not save your tracks on the GPS itself unless you don't mind losing some information. I saved my tracks and and erased the from the regular track log every day thinking I would have a nice, clean day-by-day track log when I got home.

Come to find out, when you save the tracks on your gps, it does not save critical data such as speed and time of each leg in the track log. I does this in the regular track log, but the data is somehow lost when you save the track log.

  13. Do you have the latest drivers from Garmin?

On my computer it did not see my new Vista C until I got the latest driver from Garmin.

    Hope this helps

    kf4oox

Yes...without the right drivers, you will not see it in the hardware list. I know that for the Garmin 60CSx, there were some updated drivers that were recently made available on their website. Here are the links to the eTrex Legend series (and there are some recently updated drivers listed):
