  1. A huge congrats to The Splashes on their 11,000+ Milestone! They are an inspiration to many of us and plain ol good folks!
  2. Half a Honk? Haven't been there yet and, indeed, it'll be awhile before I get there, but I think I might know what "planet" you were on... Honk but from a long time ago too.
  3. The guys at AIG certainly know the difference. How many other failing companies should we be paying bonuses for?
  4. I was thinking Mapsource got corrupted. May try uninstalling ad deleting all the folders it leaves behind and then try reinstalling it. If that doesn't work then load the latest updates for Mapsource. On one of the tech support calls to Garmin, they recommended doing a total clean out of Mapsource and the associated files and modifying the registry then reloading. This did not help. On another call, we even atempted to go back to an earlier version of Mapsource, but decided on doing some other things first. Like trying to open these on another pc. I have not done this as of yet. Trying another PC is a good idea.
  5. I try to take lots of photos. I always upload the ones that turned out the best.

  7. Yes! On both counts. I scanned the entire topic to see if what I am about to say has been said and I didn't see it. It was a fast scan so naturally that means that it has already been said: In the spirit of the above Leprisch comment I would go one step further and delete every log on your cache page except the find log(s). A cache page is no place for a forum discussion. This stuff junks up the page and it isn't cache history. The SBA could be considered history but, really, what purpose does it serve now? It was a mistake, a misconception of where he thought the cache was. It is just no big deal to remove that kind of log. As a veteran offering advice to a new cacher, I would recommend letting the heat of anger pass before making comments on the cache page and in the forums too for that matter. Especially in the forums. And while we are at it, be extremely careful before you email anger to anyone. Your comments might make you feel better for a brief moment in time but the backlash will pour ice water on that satisfaction, usually very quickly as you might be finding here. Good advice!
  8. If you want 25 word logs, PUT OUT A CACHE THAT PEOPLE WILL WANT TO WRITE ABOUT. Put a really well done cache in an interesting place, and the logs will come. Trying to force it, is really lame. I agree about #2. I don't really like #1 but I would do it. I have always wished that puzzles were split from ALRs. To me they are totally different flavors.
  9. They could blow away a lot of caches if they applied that same logic to non-virts. I would have let that one live with an Absent Owner considering the logging requirements don't require any owner interaction. The guidelines for maintenance of grandfathered virtual caches and webcams is different than the guidelines for maintenance of other cache types. In particular, the guideline for visiting the Geocaching.com web site at least once a month and the automatic archiving of "abandoned" caches is only called out for virtual caches and web cams. My guess is that TPTB would like to eventually archive all grandfathered virtuals and webcams. To this effect they no longer allow these caches to be adopted and they have this additional clause in their maintenance guidelines. Physical caches can still be archived if not maintained, however they don't have an abandonment clause. If the community is still maintaining a viable cache, the reviewers will not archive the cache just because the owner is no longer participating. I notice that the guidelines for regular caches still say, "In the event that a cache is not being properly maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an extended period of time, we may archive or transfer the listing." Given the policy of no longer having non-consensual adoption it seems the guidelines need to updated. I realize that. It is just odd that potential geo-liter would not have the same strict maintenance requirements as a virtual.
  10. This is the best poster child I've seen. Easy - 21 36 caches, all by the same user, all with the same name, (Easy - thru 36), most with barely more than 1/10 of a mile between them. I was told that this series was the one responsible for Groundspeak's power trail rule. Very interesting, CR. They seem to all have been adopted, and adopted by a Sock Puppet? Personally, I haven't seen too many Power Trails. Not in my immediate area, at least. Here is a "project" that was nipped in the bud pretty early by the reviewer. If you read the first few paragraphs of that cache page, you see there is clearly the intent to create a power trail with as many caches as possible. Here's one that came up in these forums last year. It's a parking lot micro power trail along a commercial strip in Ohio that has been closed to further cache placements. All well & good, guys -- but before this wanders too far astray on "great examples", on the one I presented - is this one IS, or is it AIN'T a 'Power Trail'?? ~* The answer to that is........The emperor is wearing a robe.
  11. Actually I wouldn't want the owner to know I had placed it on my ignore list becaue he would probably email me and want to know why. Given how much I use the ignore list I would find that annoying. Besides I have people in black suits tell me that the aliens have tried to access the ignore list to look for discriminating cachers as opposed to the "I have to get all the caches" proleteriat types. Are you sure you don't mean "white suits"? You may need to up your meds...
  12. Virtuals are archived all the time for absent owner - if you don't log on every month or so they can be axed. Interesting. AC virt loggers that look for AOs would lead one to believe otherwise. I have seen false logs on AO verts stricken but never an archive or TD. How extreme do things have to get before it happens? I don't know how extreme things have to be, but I saw it happen on this cache. They could blow away a lot of caches if they applied that same logic to non-virts.
  13. Whew. So it wasn't just me. I have no idea what that meant either. Maybe he'll explain...
  14. Beep Beep 2 was my favorite funny one. I wish I had a photo but it was a scary clown mask under a sewer cover. You had to get down on your hands and knees to look under and then YIKES!
  15. It's not even close to the being the Poster Child. There are other way better ones out there than that...
  16. The filtering on Waymarking is very powerful. GC needs that kind of power.
  17. The number of sats being received Signal getting blocked by being too close to structures That pretty much sums it up. The satellite screen will show you how many satellites are visible and the resultant accuracy.
  18. I think I know that Cache, it's on Highway 395 north of Reno. Now shoe trees are a Waymarking category.
  19. Congrats to Kawikaturn, who hit 6000 today on My Stairway to Heaven with Flagman, Lori from Blonds Run Amuck, NCAD and me!
