  1. It needs to go through the proper review processd for it to be listed here. This is simply a listing service. You're saying if I hide a geocache in the park and post the coordinates on my geocaching Blog then it's not a geocache? Very strange reasoning. I think I understand what BigFurryMonster is saying. A cache listed on this site is a geocache and it follows those guidelines. A cache listed on Terracaching is a terracache. A cache listed on Navicaching is a navicache. A cache listed on just a blog is none of those. Perhaps it would be called a bloggocache. I think most people use the term geocache the same way we used to use the term "xerox," because "geocache" has become the standard. Geocaches existed before this site did. Branding doesn't give validity to a geocache. A geocache just is. Is a trail not a trail because it's not listed on trails.com? Is a business not a business because it isn't listed on business.com? Is any activity or hobby not valid unless it is listed on a website with the same name? No cache needs to be listed anywhere to be a geocache. Is a new virtual or locationless a geocache? At one time they were. They can still become terracaches. Widespread usage of a term makes something the standard. If terracaching had won the battle we'd all be calling them terracaches. I still use geocache and terracache independently to describe two different things listed on two different sites. They are similar but they also have some differences.
  2. You can run a Pocket Query to do it by checking the "Updated in the last 7 days" option box. Most updates are new caches.
  3. True. I figured this crowd just isn't ready for it... Actually, the scars aren't all that impressive. There are 7 in all but they are all pretty small. The operation was done using a Da Vinci robot -- which means that my ribs are intact and I do not have the tradtional zipper scar down the middle of my chest. Did they take any photos using that nano camera? When they did my knee I got some photos of the insides of my knee. Of course, those photos were a lot like modern art in that I would turn my head in different angles while looking at different objects in the photos and ask myself "What the heck is that thing...."

  6. I don't really care because it's a game and there are plenty of caches that allow for fair play for the FTFers. Not sure why you quoted me. Because I was agreeing with you... Great, thanks. Just when I think I have it figured out you have to pull this carp. I wouldn't be posting if people agreed with me. If I wanted a ((hug)) fest I'd go post in Cheers. OK then post something I don't agree with...

  8. It sounds like a cool cache and TV show! I was in that polluted river many times when I was a kid. We used to jump off the cliffs near Carderock when I was in HS.
  9. Why not? The owner posts his cache rules right on his cache page. That is a fun spin on the game! If you apply that to this situation, what would the other kids in the community learn if the cache owner's kids got the cache coords before the cache was listed and got FTF before the even got a shot at it?
  10. I haven't seen a yellow or white jeep for ages...

  12. Imagine watching the Amazing Race and instead of a fair competition and an exciting show they show friends of the show's producer running up to get the prize. That is how your cache will be viewed by the FTFers in your area. If watching a TV show like that would be OK with you then have at it... Around here we let people "beta-test" a cache before it is listed. They sign the back of the logbook and they also log online after the FTF race is over. That idea might work for you because it gives you a win-win outcome.
  13. OK, How do I see who has pulled my cache pages? I'm a PM and have never found that feature. There is a link at the top of the cache page for the cache owner that says: Read the audit log
  14. Look at the first log (approval log) for any cache in your area.
  15. And how many people that couldn't find the first, even though it is there, on an expanded search would find and sign the second? Or happen to spot the second before they really look for the first? and then post the "correct" co-ordinates in their log? Man, seems to me it would be a mess. Jim Good point. So make it 200 feet.
  16. I agree with the park suggestion. One trick I use is when I find a cache that I like I pay attention to who hid it. Then I will go find more of their caches. The reverse is true. If I find a trashy cache I won't find any more caches placed by that hider.
  17. Another idea would be a hide a backup 50-100 feet away and then switch the coords to that one if the first one went missing. That would buy you even more time.
  18. If it went down would you be willing to make a 3 hour trip up there within a month or so to go fix it?
  19. We have some people that won't even disable their cache after 7 DNFs in a row over a month ago on an easy cache. IMHO, they have too many caches. To me it's all about how many caches can you responsibility maintain. I don't think they should let some people have more when they can't even maintain what they have.
  20. If you are talking a Blue I wouldn't spend more than 80 bucks for one. If that's you limit it will find caches for you. I still use mine. If you can get closer to 150 - 180 then you'll want to go with an HCx series. I agree. They are good starter units but not worth much. I have one too but I'm giving it to my Dad to get him into Geocaching as a good retirement hobby and a way to get some exercise in a fun way.
  21. I wouldd just blow out that whole line and reload it. Then re-enter it.
  22. Placing a cache near a government building is against the guidelines: "Caches near, on or under public structures deemed potential or possible targets for terrorist attacks. These may include but are not limited to highway bridges, dams, government buildings, elementary and secondary schools, and airports."
  23. We just had recent a bomb scare too. Luckily a proactive geocacher defused it.
  24. I won't put someone's coin in a low terrain non-PMO cache. High terrain caches are generally safe because thieves are also typically lazy jerks.
