  1. i'm still up for adopting it, i must be the one who lives the nearest 0.8 mls. it was also my first find. have sent you an email. Request is on it's way. Thanks.
  2. I know someone wanted first refusal on Cuckoos Nook. I'm never going to get round to it, so does anyone want it?
  3. Many thanks to Zoomlens & Nediam. I'll hold on Essex for a while in case Haywood Hornet wants it: it is indeed *very* near to him, and IIRC his first cache. I might drop him a mail too.
  4. Hi All, Due to the fact that we no longer have (and haven't had for some time) someone else's car to go getting filthy caching, and a distinct lack of time to maintain them, I'm looking for adopters for the following caches: GCGQCK GCJP2B GCH7TX GCGJKY Some need maintenance. I'm hanging on to some that are nearer, virtual, or just easier to maintain without going by car. Any takers please contact me via GC.com. Chris
  5. We moved one of our caches for this reason.
  6. We've found several caches that have gone missing, and other cachers have visited the correct place and found one of our caches missing. We always claim them as DNF, as have the people visiting ours. After all, you didn't find it.
  7. Exactly! If I was the bomb squad bloke, I'd hardly be in a hurry to open the hidden metal box in case it was harmelss and had identifying info inside. I think really that conventional caches in cities or potentially sensitive areas (eg: near a Police Station) could be very risky.
  8. That's precisely why ourtwo caches in Birmingham city center are virtuals. The one would be impossible otherwise, but you could probably hide a micro at 'Venice West Midlands"- but sommehow it didn't seem a responsible thing to do. I don't understand what the problem is with virtuals anyway, myself.
  9. We got involved purely by way of Slashdot 'News for Nerds'. By coincidence I'd just bought Mary a GPSR (we like a bit of gentle walking, and she'd always ask 'Where are we' and 'How far do you thing we've walked', and I read a thread on slashdot asking what people what they were doing with the Chrismas/ New year break, and one said 'Going Geocaching' with a link to GC.com.
  10. Not all ISPs carry all newsgroups. Drop the support an email and ask them.
  11. We had a venture, lost it in the lake district, and got a Legend. It does more than we need. The venture was as good for what we use for, but isn't available new any more.
  12. I think I only just managed to get the two Birmingham city centre caches we own listed. What I don't understand is the policy of not approving virtuals. I've done some really good, fun virtuals (often in city centres) where it's unwise or impractical to place a real container. For eample Venice, West Midlands: you could have hidden a micro or a small cache in the area, but hiding boxes close to the ICC and brindleyplace didn't seem like a good idea. Just out of interest- why are virtuals 'frowned upon'?
  13. We're not really Coventry, but we're probably a bit nearer than you were. If there's no-one closer we'll take it on as I'd hate to see it archived. Chris
  14. Yep. I know your sisters face very well, (I think she's on a couple of my cache photos) but I wouldn't recognise your photo- always behind the camera!
  15. The photos from the now archived Hayhead Wood cache are online. Leave a comment if you recognise anyone. Hayhead Wood cache page Photos
  16. We must be doing quite well then: The Bennet Family and MarkGPX & Lesley, all in 65 found caches.
  17. I'd have loved to adopted this as it's my favourite cache I haven't done: we drove straight past it without the GPS. The drive is fantastic. It's a bit far from the West Midlands though
  18. Just dropped the ball in Momentous Moments as it was my only chance to pass it on within 10 days. I'm just about a northerner, and this is in good range (about 2 miles) of an M5 junction. Can someone take it further down?
  19. Make sure you do 'The Phoenix'. It's easily walkable from the city centre.
  20. We've now done 61 caches, and excluding an event cache we've bumped into only 2 lots of cachers- The Bennett Family (at Ladies in White), and MarkGPX (with Lesley) at Nan's Cache.
  21. I've had no problems with a usb-serial adaptor and firmware updates. You can find out what com port the usb adaptor is on in device manager, if you're using win2k or XP. If you can't see it drop me a mail.
  22. Why do you think the word doesn't appear in the warning! If you google 'hay head wood" the listing turns up. I don't want it being listed under "dogging" too.
  23. Last night I did as suggested and contacted West Midlands Police and got a call back today from Kevin Pitt in the Community Safety Bureau at Walsall police station. He was very helpful, and said that they are aware of a problem- this is why the barrier is locked at night. He also said that any cachers noticing undesireable behaviour here should contact him on 01922 439103. I'm impressed. The cache will stay!. It seems too popular to archive. I do hope the only photos on the camera are of cachers though .
  24. Maybe not, as I've asked the local Plod if they can drop by. "Yes Officer, I can explain why I was taking photographs"
  25. I'm looking for opinions on Hay Head Wood. Take a read of the (recently modified) description and the log from 'erewego'. A few cachers have noted the disproportionate amount of lone men hanging around, and I'm considering (but only considering archiving the cache. The site is nice, the nearby model planes provide entertainment, and there's some history, so I really don't want to archive the cache, but I don't want to lead cachers somewhere undesireable either. What do people think? is the warning sufficient? Chris
