  1. Hey Queens Borrowers... count me in. Send me your address and I'll trade with ya... I just got Frank & Becks Poker Chip, as well as their son's Chip. Very cool. Thanks for the trade!
  2. Yeah! todays mail brought me Dardevle and Nochipra's coins! Awesome! So excited to start yet another addiction. The coins are great! Thanks for trading! Boots...
  3. Ok, I sent off a letter to National. Ended up being about 2.5 pages long! Hope I didn't over do it! LOL! I would really like to hear from anyone else who may be interested in purchasing a 4-H Coin. I will def post when I hear anything from the 4-H Mall.
  4. Thats a great story Dardevle... If you don't mind, I think I would like to include some of the posts in this forum in my letter to National 4-H. I think it would help to support the request to have it minted...
  5. Hey, thanks for the support folks. I think I am going to draft up a letter to National today, as I sit at home and watch the snow fall. Today in the Rochester area, lots of snow has closed most of the schools. Yeah!!
  6. Ok! I sent wooden nickels out today to the following cachers: GBOTS Nochipra Slowdownracer Dardevle Dream Cachers Frank n Beck 57 Chevy OTazman (sent two) N8turegrl Let me know if you don't recieve them in a few days. I am in NY, so your proximity to that state may affect delivery time. Looking forward to seeing your coins! Boots...
  7. The scouting forums isn't so much a forums as it is a thread in the coins forum. The link (the best I can think) is http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=178999 As for the lack of a 4-H Coin, I think I am going to send a letter to the National 4-H Mall (the online 4-H store from National 4-H Headquarters) and suggest that they make a coin and order 1000 of them in sequnce, to be sold to 4-H GPS clubs. I am on the National 4-H Geospatial Science Taskforce, so maybe I can pull a little clout and make this one happen. Geospatial Science is a big initiative right now in 4-H witha new curriculum just recently released and the whole bit, so I hope I can play on the Hot Topic card. Wish me luck. If anyone hears about a 4-H Coin in the meantime, let me know. And I will post again if I have any luck with National! Boots...
  8. Hey this is great fun... Thanks for the responses folks. I got 10 coins in envelopes ready to go out tommorrow! Boots... Slowdown, I sent yo ua pm. Thanks for the gentle reminder!
  9. I am a 4-H leader and my new gps club is thinking about making some wooden nickels as trade items for the club. That (and seeing the Scouting Geocoins forum) got me to thinking... I wonder if there are any geocoins based on the 4-H Program? My kids thought about minting one, but decided it was just too pricey for our small club. Anyone know of any 4-H geocoins? Thanks in advance, Boots...
  10. Ok folks, I am just finishing off a batch of coins with the 4th coat of varnish. I have emailed about 10 of you to see if you are still interested in trading, and I have already heard back from 3 of you. Hope to get some of these coins in the mail tommorow, and to hear from some more of you soon! Thanks! Boots...
  11. I never even realized that there was a Wooden Nickel Trading Forum on here! I have been printing and producing my own sign nickels at my dining room table for a while now. It seems like it takes a lot of work the way I do it, but I really like how they turn out. First, I came up with a design idea, then went out and shot the photography for the front side (I used photography from my trip out west for the back), and played with everything in Photoshop to make it look the way I wanted it to. I print on glossy paper, but the ink tends to bleed if it gets wet, so I need to protect it. First, a spray on acrylic coating, then 3 coats of clear varnish. The finished product looks really nice. It's a lot more work than what I see from other nickels I find in caches dropped around here, but I am really proud of how mine stands out. I tried making a few 3" nickels, but they didn't fare as well. Seems they are far more likely to find air pockets between the print and the wood. They also tend to end up kind of wrippled-looking. I'd be really interested in trading with some folks from far away places (Im in NY state, USA). Write me a message if you are interested! Boots... Click HERE for larger image:
