  1. I've kinda gotten out of caching for a little bit (temporarily) as Grad school has taken priority in my life. However, I feel the need to connect with other cachers all over, so I have a fresh batch of nickles, if anyone is interested in trading.
  2. hmm... perhaps we will have to start shipping in titanium crates! wrapped in bubble wrap! and Insured for $1million!
  3. Hey, I will be happy to take the blame for starting all the ruckus. It's good to be busy! I got packages in the mail today from Bergie Bunch and The Weasel. nice nickels. Good work from these guys. Thanks for the trade! I will work to upload them to my photobucket ASAP. Got caching to do tonight though.
  4. Just an FYI... I updated my Photobucket Page to add almost all of the nickels and Poker Chips I have received. I still have 7 more to add (including two path tags), but if you've ever sent me anything, and you are looking for a picture to show anyone, you can visit my photobucket page for a pic. http://s266.photobucket.com/albums/ii267/B...tems/?start=all
  5. Got packages today from Softball and Ziggy Crew. Nice work, guys! Softball, just an FYI, your nickel arrived here broken at the seam. I, too, took the approach of a dab of glue and it will be fine. It seems that the seams line up on each of the sides. leaving a very thin piece of wood holding the coin together. You might want to re-think how you package them. I think your packaging would be just fine for most nickels, but your unique design requires a bit more protection. Not sure what to recommend. bubble wrap? not sure... titanium plating? lol!
  6. I design all my nickels in Photoshop, then use a rotary cutter to trim them to 1.4 inches. I glue them to the wooden nickels with a careful application of Tacky Glue (squirt a dollow on one, then press another nickel against it, squeezed tightly to apply a smooth layer of glue to each nickel). Once all of the A-side graphics are glue on, I lay them all out on a large sheet of cardboard and apply a coating of spray polyeurethane to prevent the inks from bleeding. Then I glue the B-side graphics, and spray that side. Once all the faces are on and sprayed, then I use a paintbrush and a high-gloss varnish. I put 3-4 coats of varnish on each side. If I do 30 or more nickels at a time, it works out pretty well that by the time I get a coat of varnish on the last nickel, the first ones have dried, and I can immediately start a second coat. It usually takes about 15-20 minutes for a coat of varnish to dry. If I am "in the zone" I can finish off all the glueing (both sides), all the spraying (both sides) and all of the varnish (one side) for about 50-60 nickels in one night. Then I do the B-side varnish, 3-4 coats, on the second night. Once they are dry, I slip each nickel into its own 1.75x2.5" poly bag. Thats my process anyway. There are easier, faster and cheaper ways to do them. It's all a matter of preference.
  7. email sent. This place seems to have picked up a bit! woohoo! Always seems to be a rush of new cachers and new interest after the new year!
  8. Packed up envelopes for Softball, Gergie Bunch and Ziggy today. Hope to get them in to the post office this afternoon. Hope they all arrive safe and sound!
  9. The format is exactly as you have indicated... hddd mm.mmm. The datum is WGS84, but I believe that is the default for any GPS produced now. At least it was on my Legend and 60Csx units. As far as Distance, speed... you don't set that up. That just responds to your actual position. Not sure what other information you are asking about. Typically the Etrex units are ready to go, right out of the box.
  10. Can someone please remind me which brand of MicroSD card has been reported to have issues working with the Garmin 60csx? I know I have read it in here, but I can't find it in the search engines...
  11. NiMH batteries are rechargeable and still work with the Legend. i wouldn't cache without them.
  12. I will be back in town next monday. I need to get a package out to Softball, and I would be happy to send one out to you as well. Will send you a PM.
  13. Yes. It's fully functional in the "Free" state. The "Nag screen" appears more and longer after the free session expires -but still works OK. I paid! (There's a few UK cachers still using the "Free" version -I think their Scottish... ) LOL! I quit using mine when the nag screen got to 100 seconds... It was still on my computer though, and when I finally registered it, I clicked on the icon, and it said that I had been using it for 525 days and the nag screen was about 330 seconds... lol! Yeah, I finally decided to pay for it. It's been great so far, but I am just starting with it.
  14. Thanks a million!! Thats exactly what I was looking for!!! Ok, so I went through the Macro tutorial which allows me to select the nearest (enter number here) caches and select them in a macro flag. Thats great, but I've already found the nearest hundred (or so) from here, and I don't want to select those. I need to figure out how to filter out the "found" caches with that macro. I could use the macro I have already made, and set it to find the nearest 500 and then sort by found and set user flags for the Unfound, but I am sure the macro could do that easier.
  15. OK, so I decided to quit being such a tightwad and I finally registered my GSAK. Question now... One of the reasons that I decided to register was because I understand that macro's can help me format my "Note" window for transfer to my Garming 60CSX. What I WANT is a macro that will let me make a macro that will look like this: [type (trad, multi, etc)]....[Difficulty]..[terrain]..[date of last find]. Though I would love to get a [smarthint] in there, the Note window is limited to 30 characters, so I compromise. Regardless, can anyone tell me how to get a macro that will do that?
  16. I guess the question is, what ARE Those bells and whistles? For example, I understand that there are macros that will put the difficulty and terrain ratings, container size and date of last find, in my "notes" section of the 60csx. That is something that I want.... I dont' think EasyGPS does that (they can put a "smart hint" into the notes section). What other commonly used bells and whistles does GSAK offer that I don't get with Easy?
  17. Glad you got them safe and sound. And even more glad that you enjoyed them! Happy Holidays!
  18. I recently started using EasyGPS, but a friend has recently offered to pay for my GSAK registration. Question is, what would I get out of GSAK that I can't do with EasyGPS? I am sure there must be a hundred former threads about this topic, but my search function was freezing up, and I didn't find anything as I was reading through several pages of old threads. If you can point me in the right direction, that would be much appreciated. Thanks!
  19. All I can guess is that maybe the Datum is not set wo WGS84. All caches listed in Geocaching.com are in teh WGS84 datum. I think that is default on the Garmin units, so you SHOULD be all set, but I can't give you any other suggestions?
  20. didn't realize this. I was not aware of this nor were any of the people I cache with regular. Fortunately, there is only one coin that ever made it into circulation. The others all seem to have ended up in private collection. Funny enough, i started this coin series quite some time ago, and no one has ever commented on this violation. I have to think that this is not nearly as well known a policy as some people would like to think it was.
  21. I know of free software that I can use to create shapefiles from any Garmin unit, but I haven't seen anything that would do it in reverse. I am not familiar with cGPSmapper. I am interested in learning what, if anything, can do this.
