  1. When he calls you reserve Dormaville for the LI contingent, please. It is on top of a steep hill. I really put the link so people could get a good look. It really is a fun place to weekend, close by , yet feels removed.
  2. http://www.glengray.org/facility.html Avroair--They don't call you back. It is done online. Telephones are just so 90's. Also, they only allow people from New Jersey to stay in Glen Gray Proper all others mus sleep in Dormaville. Boy Scout Groups are still given preference in facilities. Reservations in Winter Months for Group Cabins are frequently hard to come by--they book out. I have done the lean tos. There is a lot of tradition in this Camp.
  3. Team Bam Bam is correct in his assessment, I not being very experienced in placements, have found that delay was caused by something I had done, mistake in submission, clicking the wrong button. Keystone approver has been most helpful in pointing me in the right direction.
  4. JM- I am feeling great this AM, dropped kid at SAT's and went over and finished SCRAT II . Of course after that it is in to work for a couple of hours to make up some time I wasted yesterday.
  5. Went to cache looking for a specific contest TB, place by owner of cache 5/5 , he made no entry in logbook, person who took TB made no notation in logbook, but both logged on the TB Page and there was me 5/6. Possible standard practice to note cache logbook when placing or taking a bug in addition to signing in, that way there is a paper trail other than the TB page. Just a suggestion.
  6. Thanks, that is what I suspected, too bad. I am going with our local Scout troop, they go White Water Rafting and I ride my bike, as I do not go near water before Memorial Day. We outfit through Whitewater Challengers. For years I had wanted to ride this trail and finally got the chance last year. This is one of the best in the entire country, absolutely beautiful. I think they put me on the trail at White Haven around 10 AM, last year rode by myself. I may have convinced one other dad to ride with me this year. The shuttle picks up in Glen Onoko area.
  7. On May 21, I will be riding the rail trail from White Haven to Jim Thorpe, does anyone know if there are any caches along that trail, I would like to incorporate with the ride and lunch if I can. I haven't been able to find, but I am not that familiar with place names there. TIA.
  8. Gets better all the time.
  9. Anaconda---hmmm that was my second choice.
  10. No mystery-- http://www.fcps.k12.va.us/StratfordLanding...water_snake.htm Probably in the tree seeking bird eggs to eat. Among the easiest meals for a snake. JMBella's Black Snake was probably a Black Racer, which is a long snake. Little known , snakes even the fastest can't not cover ground any faster than a human can walk at a slow normal pace.
  11. If the story didn't appear on FOX then it can't be true
  12. Probably the same bear, campground bears like the easy pickings and usually are candidates for elimination because of all the problems associated with them.
  13. I don't think it is, the section I thought lead from a residential neighborhood north to the intersection of yellow with red, in effect cutting off a spur trail. The Trail, I thought lead only from the park to the back of the residential neighborhood. Not one that would be heavily used. Perhaps seeing only that rare hiker who repeatedly sought BiG Turk without success and would for some reason always find himself on Blue only to have to turn back around as some point, but I may be entirely wrong.
  14. basic backwoods safety precautions = strapping the ole hogsleg to your hip before going about in the woods. Actually the bear incident reports have been a lot quieter than had been predicted. Long cold winter followed by a cold spring had the bear pundits predicting a higher than usual confrontation number.
  15. Todays Paper, the Record has the story, it was a diversion of flow to the hydroelectic plant to allow for the removal of debris that had accumulated in the river bed. They plan on doing it again in the fall so someone can do cache maint.
  16. There are a number of canoe liveries in the Pine Barrens. http://www.pinebarrenscanoe.com/times.htm For a time I was a member of the Hackensack River Canoe and Kayak Club, a great group. http://www.geocities.com/hrckc/ But with the press of all that goes into parenting I did not have time for that activity. But frequently their members have used canoes or kayaks for sale. Again, they are a great group of people who are into hiking, biking, camping and not surprisingly paddling. I am sure that if you were to go to their forum, you would get reliable information from some of their members. Canoeing (even on the seemingly benign Pine Barren Rivers) does have an element of skill. Hackensack River Canoe and Kayak Club used to have Tuesday night paddles on the Monksville Reservoir in the Drowned Forest Area, hmmm, not to far from Long Pond Ironworks Cache. After a day of work, it wad pure delight to catch the sunset there. I note that they have their annual Batsto Paddle and Camp over Halloween Weekend, costumes and attempts to catch the Jersey Devil are part of the event. It is a Paddle In Camp. I would offer one other thing, it is a matter of personal preference, on rivers such as those found in the Pines, coupling with a geocache activity, you may find it easier to go with a rental canoe, logistics are simplified and with deadfalls (which you may have to drag your boat over or around) and the like it is sometimes fatiguing to be getting in and out of a kayak repeatedly. I find it easier to get in and out of a canoe under those circumstance.
  17. 2 Shay---I thought it was a little early to return my copy of "Hiking Long Island to Campmor.
  18. I knew it was gonna crank things up a notch. In truth, I had been working the Saddle River County Park Caches for two weeks at lunch. My office is in Clifton and I have covered most everything around here. I can jump out the back on 80 and in 5 minutes be at the bike path. The third stage was missing on this one, I have just came back from replacing it, and as it turned out the final was about 5 blocks from where I grew up in Paramus. I used to play in these woods when I was a kid, hey I still am playing in these woods. I just couldn't resist posting it to your Garrett Mtn Cache , knowing that I was bringing the wrath of LI down on me. If I could only find Scrat II that is where I would put it. We got a lot of fun left before Sept 1. Game ON.
  19. Are they as photogenic? He actually really does get into it. Hey I think we're actually starting to have some fun now. I heard NJ is looking to recruit SplicingDan, he is like A ROD.
  20. Enraven is my son, who makes me very proud. He is dilligent, obedient, compliant and 13 so he can't drive. Some very good qualities. If you go back to Feargus1 and Feargus2 you might actually see his picture, also Bull Island Cache, now archived, The Lair of Bob the Bear. He is a handsome lad. He has so much wanted his own account for some time. He was FTF on Vahalla View, which is West of where we are. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?II...6a4&LID=6471379 Sock Puppet Indeed
  21. In addition, you have introduced us to some great spots, thank you.
  22. Attacked by a Goose one day and a dog (Does she know she is a dog) the next, no thanks.
  23. That was an old rock song, it was appropriate to a lot of situations. You know there are more important things than rules. Like yesterday when I was minding my own business doing a lunch hour cache and I was attacked in surprise by a Canada Goose, in the middle of a crowded park, oh the embarassment as he chased me away from his nest, hundreds of little playground urchins laughing and pointing. There would be only one thing that will help my tortured psyche, and that would be the LI flag and a trip into dismal swamp. 48/72 compromise at 60 =2.5 days, as a wise man once told me it is just a game.
  24. Send Lawyers , Guns and Money the (*&^ has hit the fan.
