  1. Yeah, and I saw you tried to sell it on E Bay, or was it Craislist ? Did you get the dog ?
  2. There are several people in this thread who have said they would happily pay. Several ???,,,I went back through every post, and I could only find one person saying that they would "happily pay". Oh, and that person would be you. So your statement is Bishop Testimony. While your reaction is perfectly valid, you are only a single data point . But I am a swing data point, for I hide a few more than the average cacher, and if I balk at 25 per cache I suspect that those less inclined to hide in the first instance would be even more less inclined. It is illogical to assume that everybody will behave in the same way. It is even more illogical to make the assumption that you imply, for I never stated that everybody will behave in the same way. But knowing that people act on their own perception of self interest it is safe to opine that more will forego the payment of fee. There is a strong pecuniary interest that plays into the decisions of many. But I fear that I am becoming too preachy, something better left to you.
  3. Financially desperate political units are grasping at straws , literally, in their quest to raise money. So they are coming up with all sorts of cockamamie schemes for raising money. Most of which will cost more to administer than can reasonably be expected. BTW for 25 bucks a cache, you have effectively eliminated cache placement, I know I would not go there. These are some of the financial schemes and plans from yesterdays paper. That shows how desperate these governmental financial units have become. Vanity License Plates To show what NFL Team you are a fan of. 4. Is there any assurance that Cache Ninja will be there ? I think he should get a personal invite.
  5. Fire tacks are available in most retail establishments that have hunting departments, walmart, sports authority , Ramsey outdoor store in paramus,nj 12 kilometers from times square, worth the trip from anywhere. NYC is not known as a hunters haven but you can google hunting equipment when you arrive, there are a couple in the city. You can readily order them on line from cabela's.
  6. Many center city locations in the Northeast are very tough neighborhoods. I have started compiling a grouping of "virtual" hides in the Historic City of Paterson, NJ-- each one I am examining from the standpoint of --would I not want to ge there. There is a lot of drug sales activity in many neighborhoods, so they have been scratched from consideration as with that there has been an uptick in violent crime. I look the same way at some of the other cities --Bridgeport, New Haven , Hartford CT. Camden, Atlantic City, Newark , Irvington, NJ--You have to rely on hiders to be selective in their choice of location.
  7. Center city Camden nj, and from the looks of things no one else does either. Northbound 17 or southbound, the one in hasbrouck heights or the one in paramus?
  8. The OP by posting here opened up the avenue to either praise or criticism. Referring to someone as vain is not name calling. There would be those who praise and there would be those who criticize. And there would be those, myself among them, who really don't care as it in no way affects me, except that it caused me to question my own apparent incomplete attachment to the game that prevents my level of obsessiveness from rising beyond that which is normal.
  9. I don't think that having 2 or 10 caches gives a true flavor of reviewers. Go hide some more and see if your opinions hold. Only one unpleasant episode really sticks with me and that was in the nature of Earthcache review.
  10. Which one of you "Mavens" is gonna step up to the plate. If I were to make a suggest, which Lord knows I am loathe to do, I would suggest: Looking up members; addisonbr, hallycat, buttaskotch, macatac, pelagori, Harry Dolphin, weathernowcast, Briansnat and asking anyone of them if they would be willing. I would also try Slukster,or El Toro who work in New York, rather than broadcasting an invite, because you might wind up getting someone who is only interested in what is on the menu that night. BTW, what is on the menu that night ?
  11. The purpose of a Virtual Cache was to allow someone to have some fun. Attempting to inject a WOW factor into was someone else trying to define fun for another. In anticipation of the return, I have stockpiled a number of locations for virtuals that I hope to list, so someone can have fun. I like the idea of selecting my own kind of fun. A box in the woods today, maybe a guardrail micro tomorrow, maybe a virtual or a puzzle. Different strokes. I have to say that while in Florida last week I did a number of virtuals and they were all fun , including the silly and the serious. I would much rather put a 5 difficulty puzzle on my ignore list than a silly virtual, but someone else can validly say otherwise. The push pull of what should be universally fun is an exercise in futility . Live and let live.
  12. Nice, but I think I will split it into three nice walks.
  13. But absent that info, they just don't publish, they are not giving you permission they just require that information for publication, just like they require coordinates and the like. Sorry, I should have said contained in the Note to Reviewer contained in the on line submission form.
  14. How to manage: A statement contained in the reviewer note when submitting for publication as to how and from whom permission was given, along with appropriate details, i.e. address of person or phone number.
  15. But both can exceed their authority and absolve you of the consequences of acting upon their apparent authority.. It is you who can not unilaterally undertake the action on someone else's land. You who in this case would be a cache hider, must without question seek permission and for protection of yourself have that information secured somewhere--if you are going to hide on private property. I think reviewers should be direct in some cases in asking if permission was obtained on private property placements. Some believe that no permission is required in such scenarios. Call this the frisbee rule, if you must.
  16. Perhaps the guidelines need to be refreshed to be more explicit, and need to say that without express permission of a private landholder a cache can not legitimately be placed there. A proliferation of bad hides (now fully underway locally--something we have heretofore avoided) in my mind will damage our game in the long run.
  17. You can do it over national geographic topo maps. And I am sure you could probably do it with other mapping software.
  18. I would think that in a corporate environment as large as some of these retailers that all decisions regarding permissive use of their private space must come from the corporate real estate department and not from the local retail manager. From a corporate operations standpoint to do otherwise would be chaos. So no cacher should ever consider that the local manager of a multi national chain has the authority to give permission, nothwithstanding the representation of that authority. It flies in the face of reality of corporate structure.
  19. A private landowner need not state rules governing the use of his property, it is his property. A license to shop on a shopping center is granted to shoppers and for that purpose , but that does not extend to placement of objects owned by someone else without permission. Say for instance I own a hot dog wagon, I can't just park in on your private property without permission , just as I can't presume to place a cache on your property without permission. The law of license is intricate and closely circumscribed, but one can not just assume license, it is a grant from the feeholder.
  20. Can anyone who has a cache on private proeprty explain to me why they think it is OK to use someone else's property for our game without permission ?? I am mystified by the idea that some think it is somehow ok to appropriate the use of private property without securing authorization.
  21. Simple fact, without express permission there is no license to place a cache on private property. A co page note of permission should be a requirement for listing a private property cache.
