I posted a note on the cache site and here. I also emailed the cache owner. The cache owner never replied to my email. After reading the replies to my post I retracted my note from the cache and went on about my merry way. Yesterday, I set out two caches. It is in a swampy area near my home. First thing this morning I get a note posted on my cache. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=48666 The accused me of placing a cache on posted land, near active railroad tracks, getting him arrested etc. Is the note true?? Retaliation? A joke?? Serious?? I was very careful when I placed this cache. I visited the site three times. When I actually planted the caches yesterday I took a novice with me to insure the GPS readings were good. The person attempting to visit the cache seems to be of good character with a good number of finds. Right now, I plan to retrieve all of my caches. Archive all of my caches. Withdraw my membership and persue my sailing. This activity seems to be too elitist for me to continue. Thanks for the fun I had. Fair winds, Capn Skully Fair winds, Capn Skully

I sure someone would happliy take you caching with them. I hate going alone. As far as model railroading, I hooked up with some great guys that need engineers to work on their prototype railroad. We meet once every six weeks. I get to run every single train on a 30' x 40' elaborate professional layout. I haven't spent any money and they even feed me during the session Fair winds, Capn Skully

Thanks I needed that! Actually I have seen STOMP live, what an awesome show! Fair winds, Capn Skully

  7. quote:Originally posted by WindChill:Thinking out loud, how about an ammo can as a travel bug. I buy one here and its goal is to make it to Capn Skully in LA. Yah, then we do this over and over till he has how many he needs. Sure, it would work....Right? ...Ok, maybe not.... WindChill I appreciate the thought! Thanks for putting up with me. 8. quote:Originally posted by welch:If your trying to get some cans, I think you should just go with Cheaperthandirt. Because 1000 cans is a LOT, even for a group. And ammo cans are not the cheapest thing to ship. Weighing like 5+ pounds for one 50cal.! http://brillig.com/geocaching/http://img.Groundspeak.com/user/22008_1700.gif http://www.gpgeocaching.com/ I agree! 110% My daughter took a 50 cal. can to the post office and to mail it as is was $8.85 Fair winds, Capn Skully
  9. quote:Originally posted by WindChill:I realize it doesnt help you, but I can get individual 50cal cans at the local farm store (Theisens) for about $3.50-$4.00. If there is someplace similar near you it is worth checking. WindChill I actually live in a rural area, and the nearest ammo can is 50 miles away... one way. Seems like we would have an army surplus store with all the hunters we have. Our town is really backwards, if you can't buy it at Walmart or Lowes, you have to do mailorder. All other small speciality stores are out of business. For any kind of decent selection of products the Internet is the way to go. I have seen the cans at Cheaperthandirt for $4.00 but the shipping ruins that idea. The government auctions I have been watching just went way over my possible bids so I am out there too. Tupperware bowls are way too expensive, and Rubbermaid may be the only alternative. Everybody touts the vertues of ammo cans and I agree. I was hoping to get what I need and provide a service. Now stepping down from my soapbox. Fair winds, Capn Skully
  10. I want to buy some ammo cans... I can get a good deal on them if I buy a bunch. 1000+ I don't need 1000 cans. Option 1: CheaperThanDirt sells 50cal. cans for $4.00 plus shipping. If I can get 50cal. cans for $3.00 plus shipping is anyone interested? Option 2: Any caching clubs within 100 miles of my home coordinates (southern Mississippi, southern Alabama and near Texas) I will deliver free of charge cans to you or your club if you will promise a purchase of at least 100 cans. Still $3.00 per can. In theory you could live in Tennessee and drive down and meet me in Jackson, MS and get 100 ammo cans with no shipping charges. You could live in Houston and drive to Lake Charles with the same results. Fair winds, Capn Skully
  11. quote:Sure I'd be willing to do that. I recently released a couple of psudo-travel bugs....It's based loosely on http://www.phototag.org....I've placed a disposable camera into a ziplock bag with the original box it came in (which is stamped and addressed back to me) and a sheet explaining the reason for this....basically I want 'em to travel from cache to cache, with no specific goal, and have the person who currently has it take a pic of themselves or something interesting or whatever, and make a log of which pic is their's on the back of the instruction sheet...then mail the camera and the sheet back to me. 13. Brian made a post about Do and Don'ts... that topic should be locked at the top with the other two. A great post and a great help to us newbies! Fair winds, Capn Skully
  14. quote:I remember that one! 1973, that wasn't that long ago, was it? I was in Looziana back in 79. Actually I was in Miss-sippy. That was the year your cops all went on strike and Marti-Gras was cancelled. Now that was a drag! Stationed at Keesler, we used to cross the border to bring Coors back. Remember when that was considered bootleggin' !!? I got hitched in '79... Still married to her and to think if I would have went to jail instead I would have been parolled by now. 16. I have my own website and I would post the travels there. Anyone sending an email would get my heartfelt genuine thanks and a link to the page. Plus the page is listed on the attached card. I know this isn't for everyone but it works for me. (Time vs. Money) http://www/simplysailing.com/hiker.htm Hitch Hikers Fair winds, Capn Skully
  17. After reading the logs in The Travel Bug Graveyard it is really depressing. Not to think of the money invested buying tags. I have been thinking of creating Hitch Hikers with a laminated card attached requesting an email from the person finding it. I can print the cards and get them laminated very cheaply. I guess I am asking if you found one would you be willing to send me an email? Tell me where you found it and such as that? Thanks. Fair winds, Capn Skully
  18. quote:Snow. Smarty pants. WE ALL KNOW YOU DON'T GET IT DOWN THERE IN THE Louisiana BAYOU !! I just haven't seen any since the big one in '73 that is 1973 Fair winds, Capn Skully

I paint em up with a little cammo paint, fill em up with goodies ,place em, and mark their coord's. Check my first ammo can out here: http://img.Groundspeak.com/cache/47923_200.jpg How does that look? What is that white stuff ??? Fair winds, Capn Skully
  20. Pouring rain, my wife and both kids tromping through the woods in Mississippi. No idea where to go except by the GPSr. We reached a low spot in the trail that was quickly changing from a creek to a river. We had to stop and they were disappointed. Later we searched at a boat launch in the dark with only one flashlight and four people. The cache was ruined but we found it. THEY LOVED IT!! Fair winds, Capn Skully
  21. It sounds like you handled it quite well. You may wish to send a note to the cache originator let him provide some parking coordinates. By all means post your experience in the log when you post the cache. Fair winds, Capn Skully
  22. That you are really putting some thought into your trades and actions. I like Centaur's dessicant packages and the Teepee's medicine bags all of that stuff makes the game special. Fair winds, Capn Skully
  23. I often plan my trades as a way to either match the theme of a cache or to get something I need for another cache. There is a Hot Wheels cache near me that wants small toy cars. I don't have any so I traded for one from another cache. Same thing with the PEZ cache, I don't eat PEZ candy so I found a PEZ dispensor in another cache that will go to the PEZ cache. I really like Travel Bugs... so if I take one should I trade something for it? Or is a TB a special item that doesn't need a trade? Fair winds, Capn Skully
  24. recently that was totally wasted. It was a rubbermaid container but not water tight. Everything in the cache was ruined except the log book, it was damp. I posted a note in the log book and notified the owner. I didn't get any response even though the owner was actively checking other caches. Later I found the cache was archived. I am curious to know if they went back and fixed it or removed it. I agree the cache is the responsbility of the owner. If one of my caches is messed up then let me know and I'll fix it. Common courtesy is to acknowledge the person reporting the problem. Fair winds, Capn Skully
