Well, I tried to do something artistic here. I had a new camera and did not know how to do a fill flash like I know I should have done when taking a photo into the sun. Maybe it could be adjusted, but I did not go there. Hope you enjoy it!

  2. Nice photos Don.

Say, does anyone know a good local source for decon containers? I hate to pay the ebay $5.00+ price if I can find a better deal locally. Any suggestions? I could use 4 of them. Thanks everyone.

  3. Re: New Meetup.com Geocaching San Diego Organizer Planning Meeting

Can we keep this meetup.com group going? Let's plan a meeting to discuss ways to fund the cost for keeping this group together. It's only $12. / mo to keep the group together. I am thinking we can host a couple events a year to fund the cost. What do you think? Any other ideas? I have a few other fun ideas to share at an informal get together on Wednesday, 11/28 @ 7:00 pm. Lets meet at:

Karl Strauss Brewery Gardens - Sorrento Valley

    9675 Scranton Road

    San Diego , CA 92121

    858-587-2739

Please reply to RSVP or just leave an idea to be discussed at the meeting. Looking forward to seeing you there!

    For more info, see http://geo.meetup.com/114/.

  4. I was bummed after getting my family and I up to an elevation of 8516 feet, then to find out a cache is missing! Luckily, we did find one cache while we were up there!

Nice photo Dave! Did you find my cache up there? Can I whine if you didn't?

Sorry - that did not even make my PQ list! Maybe I will get there when the kids are a bit older on our next tram ride!

  6. OK, so we will take up a collection at the Nomex v. Ramius event on Saturday. Bring your spare items (and from personal experience, I can recommend gift cards from places like Target, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, shopping centers, etc.) and we will make sure they get to them...

Great idea Tom! The event is a great place to collect things.

Since we are on the subject, has there been any word of other cachers that lost their home?

Anyone heard the latest from Eric and Hill? Hill's folks lost their place in RB. See Post #12301.

  7. This just in:

    Dear Friends,

I am writing to you because my friends Luke and Laura (Tinfoil-Hat Head & Wall-Eyed Nutbag) have lost their home in the Fallbrook fire last week. I am happy to know that they are safe and have begun to rebuild their lives. They are fellow geocachers and I was hoping that you could help me get some things together that they need just to get back to basics and establish a daily routine while they piece it all back together.

I have a list of things that they need. I'm going to go through my house and get whatever I can but I know I don't have it all. So any help you can give would be great. I'll be putting this together and driving down next week to give them what I've collected.

Anything you could do would be appreciated.

    God bless!

    Katy aka Mamaloo

  8. Any Ramona cachers able to get home yet. the news is doing a POOR job of reporting on anything useful to us ramona people who were evacuated Sunday and still not home! Looks like TrailGators is home, if your home, how did you get there? I want to get back soon!

No kidding. I'm getting sick of this too. If they're keeping us out because of contaminated water, so what! We never drink it anyway. We always use bottled water.

Maybe we need to storm the gates.

I heard on TV that the main reason is because the water levels and pressure is too low to fight any fires should a new one occurr. "It would be irresponsible if we let people back in and we could not protect them". That was from the OES interview.

  9. During the fires, it has been good for some, bad for others. My son and I have been in jail twice today!

Since we opted to stay home, we had a fun game of Monopoly. Kids have been in their PJ's all day. Glad to finally be out of jail and collecting rents from Boardwalk and Park Place!! :)

  10. Evacuation Order Lifted for City of Carlsbad. Carlsbad has lifted the voluntary evacuation advisory for the City of Carlsbad, south of Palomar Airport road. There are no mandatory or voluntary evacuation orders in effect for the City of Carlsbad.

Yeah! Now it is OK for me to still be at home! Thanks for the good news Varner Parsteve!

  11. Glad to hear they are OK, but I am sure it is very upsetting. It really hits home when it happens to someone you know. Hopefully these winds will calm and we can all get past this soon. Please keep us posted if there is anything you / they need. Winds seem to be calming at the coast now.

  12. If you are east of I-5, you are supposed to be gone kawika.

My hill is OK for now north of San Marcos, but the scene is about like your picture. The whole valley of San Marcos is black.

I-5 or I-15? No evacuations in Carlsbad yet. All Carlsbad schools are open.

  13. Mt. Gower is on fire in spots. They have crews near the houses at the base of the mountain. The air is clear and breathable in the Country Estates, all the smoke is blowing toward the coast.

Speaking of the coast, here is a photo down my street in Carlsbad!

Some homes in RB have already been lost.

  14. Many 4x4 trails are closed from fires, etc., so I was thinking about Otay Mountain Truck Trail this weekend. It should be open, unless someone knows different. Saturday morning is the plan. Anyone is welcome to join. The terrain is a dirt, grated road for most of the path. There are some off-shoots I am interested in exploring and 4x4 may be helpful. Nothing extreme though. It would be about 6+ hours with great views.

    TA

Halfway on the truck trail, I may head north onto Otay Lakes Rd. I do not have any of those caches. Does anyone know if you can drive all the way through to connect to the main Otay Lakes Rd? I seem to be talking to myself. ;)

    TA

;) I'm just waiting for you to answer your last question ;)

    ;)

Yes, you can go all the way thru (from the prison to Otay Lake Rd.) Great road. Could be done in a Yugo! ... but then again who would care if the Yugo went off the cliff!

  15. What is that thing, a bicycle on a surf board? Its a surfcycle!©

I emailed the owner about it.... he calls it a "self made pedal-boat". They could have a market here!

here is another photo of the "pedal-boat". That is the hint of where it is!

    1700553_200.JPG

    Is that a fiord?

By the way, it looks like that guy wearing a bikini top....

Think "ultimate driving machine" ... How would it look out on mission bay / sail bay! All we need is a couple old surf boards and a bike and a welder!

What you got there is a bicycle and two surf boards on a roof rack...what they aren't showing is that under the water, there is a Ford Explorer attached to that roof rack...

Or is it a fiord Explorer! I have an extra surfboard!

  17. I was looking around at some 5/5 caches and ran into this photo that made me laugh. Never mind where it is, guess what country it is in! (yes, that is right).
