  1. Hurricane Katrina and the Super Bowl inspired you. So you took the colors from the Hurricane drink to make your coin since it came from New Orleans
  2. Served in a Pat O'Brien's logo glass and garnished with an orange slice and a cherry, the fruity red concoction was created during World War II when liquor such as whiskey was in low supply. In order to purchase just one case of these liquors, liquor salesmen forced bar owners to purchase as much as 50 cases of rum, which was plentiful. In an effort to use the abundance of rum that Pat O'Brien's acquired, the recipe for the Hurricane evolved with the help of an eager liquor salesman. The name came soon after when a glass shaped like a hurricane lamp was used to serve the fruity rum cocktail. The Pat O'Brien's Hurricane glass is one of the most sought-after souvenirs in New Orleans. Many New Orleanians have one or more in their possession, and as for what they do with those glasses once they get home, one Pat O'Brien's patron pointed out, "A Pat O's Hurricane glass can hold exactly $10.00 in pennies."

  8. Cache owners may leave an unactivated coin in their cache as a reward for being FTF. FTF Geocoins- "usually" let you keep it for your own personal collection for being FTF.
  9. It's so sad to see that some of you on here cant say anything nice about anyone. I wasnt trying to turn this into a commerical thread at all. I answered the question to the post without even realizing that I didnt sign my "name". I'm/we are tired of feeling that we have to defend ourselves everytime we make any comments in the forum. I told them they should go to the company they started with and told them they should find out what they offer. Id like to know how that is trying to turn it into a commericial thread all in one breathe? P.S. I was the one who responded to this post so you shouldnt ASSUME it was Matt. Nan
  10. So where is this special forum held at? Or do we have to be including in your little "click" to be a part of it? Spelled clique, and I don't think thats the case here: "Event Organizers" anyone could have volunteered for that role. The rest of us might be curious but the details they're hashing out really aren't any of our business. Don't be offended. Who said I was offended? I just wanted to know where the special forums were.

  12. I think I know what the deal is, There has been so many people complaining about geocoins and what you do with them and how coins are comercializing geocaching. So when you build a page and put there is going to be a coin show or whatever you want to call it you are basically saying it no longer is an event for people to get to know each other but a place you need to bring money to if you want to buy coins. Now not only this is happening, I have been told to not advertize on my personal coins as well as on any geocaching.com site pages. That is because we are taking money from Groundspeak, therefore they want us to use our caching names and not a website on a coin page since you actually don't own the cache page just the coin so the coin page falls under groundspeaks rules and regulations. I think they are correct to do this, because of a few people they are being more strict. The people who cry to publishers or people at Groundspeak about a coin you found in the wild that has a businesses name. If one person is going to be held accountable for a standard then everyone should be held by the same standard. I think if a coin has a businesses name people are more likely to move it than keep it. It doesnt matter where you discuss this, this is an issue that has been growing, soon people will need to buy the geocaching pages to hold an Event, because of the people advertising not only for coins since not only coin vendors are being advertized, I have seen car dealers, and other nongeocaching companies advertised on an event site, where does the advertising end and the geocaching begin. Matt
  13. 250 coins with an icon- Youre talking $525.00 for just the icon and the tracking number. Then you have to account for the different metals, enameling, different size coins and the details of the coin. Over $1000 is a reasonable price. Affordable to some is another question. We have different options to help people out that cant afford the money up front. Ask them what they can offer you. <link removed by moderator>
  14. The coins have arrived. Here are the pictures of the set.
  15. The only one that can see the amount of watchers is the seller...hmmmm
  16. Does anyone have any of these left for sale or trade? Will there be a second minting? I would like to trade for one if someone has one to trade or sell.
  17. Congrats on your find, IMO it is a traded item so it is yours to keep. We leave unactivated coins as FTF prizes and sometimes our newer coins as a gift for the next person. If it was to be a traverler it would have been activated and have a Mission as to where it wants to go. So go to geocoinclub.com and activate your new coin and keep it or move it along as your 1st traveler. Enjoy.
  18. Those are really nice! Love em. Hope you save us some!

  22. This coin was inspired by cachers "The Huskies" We have started the production of their personal coin for them and are helping them promote their coin. About the coin from "The Huskies": The one side of the coin is of a sunset taken in Cape Town (capital of South Africa) with Table Mountain in the background. The other side is of our 5 huskies - (left to right) Saskia, Pinky, Shamu, Shadow & Billy lying in the front. Shadow had this litter 3 years ago of which we only sold 2 pups and decided that we would keep the other 4. They are wonderful family pets and we have drawn much attention with them. Taking them all out at once can be the joke as they all want to be the main attraction and Shamu is the Alpha male, he takes no nonsense. We don't get any surface snow here so we have do to with sand and with their coats that is no fun either. Summer is South Africa does get extremely hot and therefore we have a swimming pool and our huskies love it too. Shadow is the madame of the pool, she is always in the water no matter what time of day or night it might be. When we do go away we alway arrange for a homesitter especially to come to look after the huskies as they are our pride and joy. They are our extended family and live with us Somerset West about 25 miles from Cape Town.
