  1. And if you've upgraded to the euro firmware, the path won't be under preferences, it'll be on the first page after selecting menu, under 'Map setup'. Norm
  2. Can one . . . . "Simply translate the 'constants.ini' to your own language" in the 'found2Log' application? A Mac person trying to look through Windows! Whom, by the way, doesn't speak any foreign languages. Norm P.S. : I feel this topic may be drifting afield. Half the utility of the feature is to remove caches from "to be found" consideration while in the field. Beyond that, the Found2Log applet that DocW referenced a couple posts up looks like a good way to pull the list out for use (haven't tried it yet myself). One needs to delete the file to reset. Is the kind of stuff you were wondering about? You dont have to delete it. If you are loading an updated version of the .gs file, the adjacent .fnd file is deleted automaticly. And to operate found2Log you dont need to know german language even if it is not translated to english. Just start the program, hit "Datei öffnen" on top (which means "open file"), move to your unit's geocaching folder, select the wanted *.fnd file and open it. I guess everything else is self explanatory. Just hit the GC-code, the geocaching.com page of that cache comes up, enter your log and there you are. You can click on each item of the top row to sort the found files according your wishes. Makes most sense when sorting for timeline.

  4. Thanks Airmapper, we posted w/in minutes, I appreciate the effort! Norm
  5. "Never mind" - the term I was looking for was "Ill formed pragma", beating my head against Goog found it. "Back to your regularly scheduled programming!" Norm
  6. I'm posting here because I have deduced (perhaps incorrectly) that % of sucess would be greater. Through my musings at Ground Speak I've run across a members site where he discusses "ill formed pragma". I'd like to return to that site but neglected to bookmark it. Could anyone rembering his site please refresh my mind. Thank you Norm
  7. U . . . . hhhh . . . . isn't 'Mapsend' a Magellan application ;^) The maps that can be loaded into the handhelds are proprietary and specific to a manufacturers product. Unless of course for "educational purposes" you might want to go the opposite way ie. Garmin to Magellan. http://www.msh-tools.com/ If you meant Map Source than I'm afraid WYSIWYG. On the cableing issue, Vista data cable is serial(?), and I'm supposing your computer is either usb, or if an older MAC, Apple Desktop Bus (ADB looks like s-video).
  8. I've not actually used the product, their site is well done, they seem to want to be the 'end all be all' MAC mapping product, both street and "rumored" topo solutions. Bring on the new NEWTONS (yeah . . . right, like that's gonna happen)! Norm
  9. Orienteering : Map & compass, . . . . no buttons, no batteries, a skill to use when the GPS might fail. Walk before running. A great oppurtunity to interact and teach problem solving skills! As a reward for not "screwing around"? Getting to use the 'electronicals'.
  10. Macintosh . . . . Macintosh . . . . Macintosh . . . . Macintosh . . . . Norm
  11. Too bad the screens upsidedown and the 5-way's on the wrong side for right handers ;^). Norm
  12. Pardon the sardonicism, but if high-school age students in a science class are going to 'muck up' the settings on the GPS, then they're misplaced. Phys. ed. though, that's a different story. Sure, I have high expectations, but without 'em you're embracing lowest common denominator thinking and behavior. Which by-the-way is tearing this world (and our country) asunder. Don't underestimate their capacity to 'pick it up', with effective guidance and motivation, you'd be surprised at their capacity to learn. . Stepping down off the "soap box" Norm ducks the 'flames'. . Norm
  13. The issue isn't that I need alternate software, I can open the second video, not the first! Norm The latest version of QuickTime Player for Mac OS will support playback of Windows Media files. There is also an application called Flip 4 Mac that installs as part of the QT Player and let's you export a Windows Media File into another format.
  14. I down loaded the .zip ... I can read the text & view the wmv_2, but the wmv_1 gives me the viewer with this message "The channel does not support the stream format". So .... I can see how to acess the maps in the GPSR but can't view the video on how to do the technical part, gittin' 'em in there. Thanks Norm OS X 10.4.8 ---- Windows Media Version 9.0
  15. From a motel 160mi. from home, using a PDA, it's workable but without a physical keyboard . . . . tedious for text. I grabbed some coords. manually earlier today, but was stymied by a closed park gate
  16. java script:emoticon('',%20'smid_4') As Dennis Weaver as 'McCloud used to say....."There ya go!" Norm
  17. That application doesn't go on the Palm, the results of it's conversion get fed to cachemate, on the Palm? .... I think?, ....I'm not there yet!
  18. On a Mac go to ... in order ... /Documents ... then /Palm ... then /Users ... then the /name of your device ... then /Files to install ... the /hard drive if a LifeDrive or /(SD) card, where you'll find the files waiting to go to the device on next HotSync. Oooops . . . Norm
  19. I vote you get your own updatable sticky topic, if you'll accept the nomination Norm
  20. What is the $ to £ conversion these days? 1 U.S. dollar = 0.524(3 d.p) British pound. First post here, here, I've found this site helpful in the past, and will in the future also! < http://www.xe.com/ucc/ >
