    $78 GPS

I just saw somewhere that Target had the eTrex yellow for $80, but now I cant find where I saw it. I do see that Walmart.com has the Legend for $168 but the other models are about normal prices.
  2. FYI....I just saw that Walmart.com has the eTrex Legend for $168. Prices on the other models that I checked were about normal.
  3. Hmmmm, looks like something along the way is just slow. I just got the missing email from my cache. Looks like the last Groundspeak server received it at 18:16 my time but my ISP didnt receive it until 20:09. Guess I just need to be more patient...
  4. I just got an email that my TB was picked up from a local cache. Strange thing is that I also have a watch on the cache and I didnt get the email about it being logged. I went to read the log and it mentions that the person was heading to one of my caches next, so I checked the logs for it. Sure enough there is a log on that one that I didnt get the email about .... To make it even stranger, I did just get a notice for another cache I am watching. Anyone else notice any missing emails today?
  5. The local Wal-Mart has a kiosk for making tags for your pet. THey are engraved metal but I dont know how many letters or lines you get or how much they are.
  6. Well if you like the polished rocks, I've got good news!! I have a batch that will be finished up on Sunday. I love to polish rocks, but its such a long process. It takes 6 weeks per batch of rocks. There are 2 different grits and a polish that I use, each taking 2 weeks to run. I usually have 3 rock tumblers going at a time so I can get bigger batches out. This next batch will have some pretty cool rocks in it. Really cool colors. So look forward for some of these to come to a cache near you!! As far as the coin goes, didn't really get a lot of feedback on it, so I will have to start saving my pennies to save up for it. Hmmm, maybe I should do a piggy bank cache where cachers can leave a donation? hmmm, I've got a idea!! Ran across a small plastic box full of the rocks this weekend. Left them for the next person....After seeing them though, I got to thinking about this thread again and did some googling for promotional coins. THe hit that caught my eye was Custom Promotional Coins. They seem to have a good variety of materials, styles and prices. I didnt compare them to anyplace else though. I also played with making my own this weekend. I havnt found the "right" way to to put my logo on them yet so Ill keep playing.
  7. I take it you didnt get much reply when you asked if anyone was interested in ordering some coins? For what it is worth, we consider your polished rocks to be something of a collectable item. We restocked a waterlogged cache last weekend and left a rock or two that I had been carrying around for most of a year (I think it came from Yo-Da-Lin in the Valley).
  8. I, too, really like the new profile and gallery pages. Great Job. I notice two things though... Clicking the Benchmark icon doesnt bring up a list of my benchmarks. With Opera 7 it doesnt do anything and with IE 6 it kicks me back to my profile page. Clicking the TB icon brings up the generic Track a TB page, instead of a list of my TBs. Is this the way it is supposed to be? Does anyone else see this behaviour? ------------------------------------------------ The world is a playground. 9. Im interested...Have you checked on prices and quantities? ------------------------------------------------ The world is a playground. Go outside and play! ------------------------------------------------

I'm somewhat flexible on which weekend but I'd like to hear from a few more people first. Thanks Based on previous logs I was figuring Id go check it out after things freeze up. Schedule is pretty full for a while, but if the timing works out Id be up for a boat (or maybe even a climbing) attempt. Continue posting as the plan firms up. Also, how about sharing the CR webring info? ------------------------------------------------ The world is a playground. Go outside and play! ------------------------------------------------
  13. quote:Originally posted by Wily Javelina:OK, sorry. My bad. Let me rephrase the question. I would like to know if one answers NO will the cache be approved? Can someone answer that question with a simple yes or no? -Wily Javelina The new field is just a text field. Put what you want in it. If you specifically say that you dont have permission, well.....Wouldnt it make sense that the approver would follow the rules and deny it. ------------------------------------------------ The world is a playground. 14. I was just at backpacker.com and see that they have most of their GPSs on sale. The prices I checked arn't "cant pass it up" good, but they are pretty good: eTrex Legend, list at $214 now $170 eTres Yellow, list at $106 now $96 Rino 110, list at $195 now $155 THey also have Magellans. ------------------------------------------------ The world is a playground. 15. I haven't looked at the spec in quite a while, but usually a device will simply take a snapshot of the data (timestamp, lat, long, alt etc) at some periodic rate. So, it doesn't directly record how long you were at a stop but it has a timestamp for when the point was captured. By comparing the timestamps and positions for subsequent snapshots you can see when you moved away from the point and thus how long you were there. ------------------------------------------------ The world is a playground. 16. quote:Originally posted by Bilbowolf:Well... no! At least not without any additional hardware. A GPS gadget can only recieve signals, not send them. This is, of course, true (assuming you mean it can not send via some wireless transmission) however, I don't find anything on the website about sending wirelessly. What it says is: "When the vehicle returns home, the TravelEyes2™ receiver is easily removed from the vehicle and downloaded to any Windows® Me, 2000, 95, 98 or NT computer." This means that you can carry it inside and plug a cable into it to download the data. If it would download wirelessly they would specifically (and repeatedly) say so. ------------------------------------------------ The world is a playground. 17. Yes, the legend can provide most (if not all) of the information to do this, the software to automate it is another issue. There are certainly applications that will parts of what you ask; download and display the routes (usaphotomaps comes to mind) but, I suspect, finding another app that does everything TravelEyes does will be tough. If you are really interested the Garmin website has all of the specs a person would need to retrieve and use the trip and route data. ------------------------------------------------ The world is a playground. 18. Though I agree with Sissy-n-CR that they should only apply to the original submission, I wouldnt mind checking the boxes each time if I knew that the t&c hadnt changed. Simply adding a "Last updated on <date>" line on the same page as the check boxes would go a long ways. Without some indication that they had changed, a person has to a) read them each time, or blindly trust that they havnt changed (or blindly accept the changes). Though I dont pass through this page often, Im not really interested in reading them each time I do. And, in this time of growth for gc (not to mention the frequency of litigation in this country) I would expect their lawyers to make changes fairly often so Im not going to blindly agree to them either. Just my one cents worth (inflation you know... ------------------------------------------------ The world is a playground. Go outside and play! ------------------------------------------------
  19. Hmmmm, mine are all "correct". Anyone else? ------------------------------------------------ The world is a playground. Go outside and play! ------------------------------------------------
  20. I agree with everyone else, this is a great idea. Rather than put the next coordinates on a street sign, maybe you could use the current buildings address (or something similar) as part of the next coordinate. It makes it a bit if a puzzle instead of a simple multi, but that shouldnt deter since it is straight forward. ------------------------------------------------ The world is a playground. 21. Just an FYI....anyone else see this? When I use the forums "My Space" tab to get to my profile, then go to the "User Stats" tab, I get the following error. I can get to the "User Stats" tab just fine if I go to my profile from a cache page (mine or one of my logs on someone elses cache) or from My Cache Page | View Your Profile As Others See It. - WindChill Server Error in '/' Application. 23. In the beginning (waaay back in Nov '02) I found 2-3 caches every couple of days. Now I could be considered a fair-weather cacher (Ive recently adopted the same attitude about camping). What it really came down to is...I go caching because it is fun; I enjoy being outside. WHen it is too hot or the bugs are too bad it isnt fun, so I dont go. When the weather cools off again and the bugs go bye-bye, Ill get back out there. ------------------------------------------------ The world is a playground. 24. quote:Originally posted by Jeremy: It's a good idea to try carrying it in REI, but I doubt they'll respond to us yet. Perhaps I can find a local outdoor store that would be interested in carrying some items for us. Could be worth a shot, they do know about us. They have flyers around their stores that list what to look for when shopping for different types of equipment. There is a paragraph on the GPS sheet about geocaching and it mentions gc.com. ------------------------------------------------ The world is a playground. 25. Ive certainly enjoyed all of the local caches. They are well maintained and offer a challenge because of where/how they are hidden, rather than how far away from the car they are. Here are a couple of my favorites: With the kayak, you'll definately have to hit Abbys Treasure Island Palo Marsh is a fun one because each finder gets to move the second stage. YoDaLin is a clever hide. If you like a good puzzle, you want to check out the caches by Squeamish, like this one Steepest Hill. They are a little farther away, but are definately a challenge. ------------------------------------------------ The world is a playground.
