  1. Im thinking of getting the tilt phone from ATT/cingular but to use the GPS software that makes the GPS antenna work you have to pay $20 a month since it is a windows mobile phone i can put what ever i want on it and not worry about the charge according to the ATT rep so anyone have any experience or suggestions ?

  2. I know a ton of glass blowers and artists i was thinking it could be fun to have one of them make a couple of unique coins - I would so make them trakable .

hears some info on glass to note before tho heck no feedback : soft glass is the cheepy stuff that brakes I will probably use pirex. thay will be rather think so they can be dropped and not break esily.

  3. I listened to enough Albany radio in my youth (WABY) to remember that as SCAN-eee-AT-uh-lees.

I like the names Valatie and Irondequoit.

I grew up in Irondequoit....do you know that there are 22 CORRECT spellings of "Irondequoit" listed in the early records?

An' it means something like: "that really flat spot where we all kept getting malaria close by the big lake"

    :D

I know the correct way to say Irondequoit, but I have no idea how to relay that information phonetically. I mean it's just Irondequoit. :D What do you mean "flat", the Drumlins in Durand Eastman Park will take anyone to the brink of cardiac arrest. :D

LOL that hill aint that bad try going to Hiland park  - but then again that hill on circle street drives me nuts when I'm on a bike. I hope the snow melts soon so I can find that bench mark.

  4. I have just read 2 threads withing the Websire forum section. The first bitching about the site and the issues it was with down time and such. And now this one. $30 an account seems cheep to me for full access to the site. Other than this what does it really cost to participate. I cached for 2 months without paying a dime and borrowed a gps, making it totally free!!!.

I have a family of 6 and if at some point they all want to have there own id then I'll pay the $30 for the access.

This is what keeps it all moving, correct?

Not everyone has that kind of money.

  5. I have lists upon lists of benchmarks, including whether or not they are set in culverts, buildings, bridges, and so forth. When the snow comes, I get out my "snow list". None of the snow listings are "set in the top of a concrete post flush with the ground." Keeps me outside, looking! :D

well I did finally snap a pic of the Liberty Poll- a hard to miss marker.

  6. Well now at least the ski areas can make it.

Hey, winter ain't over yet. Who knows, we may get hammered by snow from here on in.

I hope not , I have to walk to collage every day I would prefer it if I did not have to tie tennis rackets to my my feet just to make it. :D

  7. Well, it's not a firearm, but it WAS unusual!

You have to understand that we were in the middle of nowhere...on a road that you had to have a 4 wheel vehicle to drive on it...no people in sight anywhere...and there it was....looking like it was JUST dropped! No animal bites, no ants on it...it was very odd!

dude that is a find inf it self looks like it was just cooked.

Looks like someone lost their manifold meal. I lost a burrito like that once while out wheeling.

    5 second rule :drama: !!

yeah, we decided to let sleeping "dogs" lie!

seeing as you don't know ware it has been, probably for the best- then again as far as hot dogs are concerned out of the packedged they can be scary.

  8. neck gator?

it's the neck of the turtle neck with out the rest of the shirt, I love them cus the tend to go right up to the bridge of your nose or just below and you coat keeps the wind out when the gator is tucked in.

So is it more closely related to a turtle or an alligator? :P:drama:

well I think it gets it's name from the fact that alligators have long necks and bodies- but thats just a guess.

  9. skah-NECK-tahdee How's that? Now if we can get people to pronounce BING-ham-ton right. Hardly anyone spells it right either. :drama:

Funny I was just throw their a couple weeks ago - every one in the general vicinity of upstate knows how to say it with out thinking just like we call Charlotte sha-lot instead of Char-lett then we have Chili "Chi-Lie" heck I live in rottenchester

  10. I was wondering if it was possible to add a check box on the maps page and/or search page that would allow us to save a GPX file like you can a LOC.

Since going paperless it's such a pain to make bookmarks, then a PQ to get the GPX file.

That would be sweet if only for premium members.

  11. Well, it's not a firearm, but it WAS unusual!

  12. Let's keep things the way they are.

It would be too easy to abuse the system where groups of people may call themselves a "family" when they are not the traditional family (like the original poster implied...we could get into what can be legitimately defined as a family...but we'd be getting into religion, politics, morality, etc). What you'd end up with is less revenue for GC.com to run everything they run due to a consolidation of memberships. If one thinks that GC.com is getting too much profit for what they charge individual memberships, then one has the option of not continuing their membership. If an eight year old is old enough and independent enough to have his/her own GC.com identity, then that individual (or parents) should be able to pay for their premium membership to get all the benefits entitled to that individual. If eight yr olds have their own GC.com identity and are only caching with their parents and visiting all the same caches, I question the reason why the eight year old NEEDS their own identity. If that individual is caching such that they need a separate GC identity (vs a family identity), then there is a reason they should have a separate premium membership.

Part of this is not actually being able to afford 4-6 accounts a small discount would be nice for groups/family. geocaching.com should not even try to define a family just offer a discount if you by 3-4 memberships and a discount of a couple dollars (lest then the original per ) for each additional account . Also as far as the family page goes make it optional to be listed as "member of" thats whole nother can of worm I would hate to deal with. I will also repeat that the "child" account idea is no good it would require creating a new account time and programing and the like, on the other hand offering a program for a discounted rate for multiple people, would only require a policy change and adding something to the premium member page. As far as people thinking that geocaching.com makes to much money, I don't believe that a lot of people really think that, this is more an argument to help the pocketbook-at least a little bit. geocaching.com may actually make more money by selling some accounts at a discounted rate instead of possibly selling less accounts.

hears an outline of a proposed price structure:

this is based of a yearly scheme and a 3 member minimum

    first member full price $30

    next 3-6 members $15 each

    any additional members $20 each

I think a family/group membership should not be restrictive it would just end up crippling it and make it pointless to have. I do hope geocaching.com looks more in to a program that would allow family's that cache together to have everyone interested in a pay account be able to have one if they are 8 or 80.

  13.

This ignores the "oops!" factor - accidentally keying in 2500 when you meant 250, and then not being able to run any more PQs for the next 24 hours.

yes, and after that you know better..

LOL I am suddenly reminded of some bad JAVA I wrote once....

  14. I live in a good sized city, and due to a medical problem can't really drive, I take what I can get tho Rochester proper has a shameful number of caches IMHO alot of place here micros would be best. When the snow melts I'm ganna try a water bottle cache - it's big enof for TB's and coins and other smashish toys I have been putting some pennies in it for fun as well.

  15. It may be useful here to realize that the items stolen were aparently not GPS receivers, but rather GPS tracking transmitter devices, used to allow city managers to track whereabouts of city vehicles. It was the GPS tracking/transmitter function which allowed city officials and police to track down the stolen devices.

Thank you for clearing that up. I didn't think receivers could be tracked. News article was unclear/uneducated.

Still a bit of entertainment, mildly related in my book.
