  4. I just wanted to comment that this is a great idea and a lot of fun! I have been checking often for the coordinates! When we looked up the first ones we had to weigh the fact that we are always second or third to find anything with the cost of a tank of gas

Thanks for all the work you guys put in to keep the fun going!

Congrats!! to Johnnycache on finding the first!

  5. So...how was it?

It was fun to meet the Geoteaming bunch, Dayspring! And the Celtic Cachers. However we didn't realize until we got there that this was a total "walking" course to the caches. Bob is still wearing a walking cast and although we started we opted to drop out after finding just a couple. Rather than wait to see who got the prizes we went and found a couple of caches in the vicinity that didn't include a lot of walking over uneven ground. It was a nice idea, could be a fun introduction to Geocaching. However... REAL Geocachers are much nicer people than prize focused newbies, if you get my drift.

  6. I want to thank you all for your helpful and thoughtful responses to my question.

I am not really that in to the numbers but I did the GSAK thing to log our finds and it was fun to see which ones were 100 and so on. So I thought this memorable event would be a great 400. But it isn't a really big deal I was just kind of wondering what I was doing wrong for the NEXT milestone.

For me it is more about the memories we are making and the "adventures" that geocaching takes us on. And some are just more memorable than others. Isn't it wonderful to have a game that can be played so many different ways? Cache ON!!!

  7. Hello,

When I carefully log my finds in the exact order they were found they seem to get added in an inconsistent way. This weekend we had many to enter for the same day and wanted to hit a milestone with an "event" even though I carefully entered them in order we ended up with a different find as our milestone. What am I doing wrong? Can I fix it?

Thanks so much for any help.

  10. My ringtone is the theme song from "Mission Impossible".

That's what I put on my hubbys phone that we use geocaching. We get a lot of positive feedback when people hear it. I find myself humming it in the car. Maybe you have to be old enough to remember the series to really get it. The movies didn't really play it up.

"Your mission.. if you choose to accept it" LOL!

    I hope it catches on!

  11. The only one that really made me feel a slow burn out in the field was

    "Use your geosense"

I felt insulted that I had looked and looked for that thing (still haven't found it) and

that was what they offered. I guess I just don't have geosense yet. Maybe someday.

  12. Well I should have read Snoogans stuff sooner, We took six TB's to Geowoodstock. I have really enjoyed reading where some have ended up and some really nice people picked up 4 of them! Pretty good odds. But the one that meant the most to us, a cute little travel gnome with a charm on it that was from a friend who has now passed on totally never surfaced. I drilled a hole clean through him and super glued the dog tags on AND I am still holding out hope as one of the geocoins we left was just posted yesterday YAY! But I took the time to print the story of our friend we were honoring and why and I thought it was really meaningful, we watched it placed in the bins at the event and it didn't last 10 minutes. I think I should have waited around to accost the individual taking it and FIND OUT WHO THEY WERE at least for the first of its journey. I knew the odds and decided to risk it but I am so disappointed. :P

Okay.. .letting it go (trying to) and really appreciating the folks who took TB's and posted about the part they played in starting them on their journey and how much I enjoy the photos of the TB's in new locations.

    Thanks for letting me vent

  13. Okay I am a super newbie and I apologize for my ignorance. I love using the cell phone for getting information in the field, but it is easier to find GZ location with the Magellan. The coordinates the phone lists are one number shorter and have no decimal than the format I put in the Magellan. They don't seem to work just right that way? Is there a different setting or something I should understand?

    Your help is VERY appreciated.

  15. We are pretty new at this too, we had four DNF's over the weekend and I know I prefer to look for larger cache's. It IS getting easier than it was at first though. I have come to dislike the word geosense especially when it is used as a hint "use your geosense" but I am beginning to realize what it means

As far as logging them I sure can tell you it makes me feel better to read that someone else had trouble too! And we have gone back and found ones we didn't think we could and that is a good feeling!

    Good Luck!

  16. I notice a lot of helpful advice on here and wanted to ask a newbie question. We like to use the gps in the phone i880 and the magellan that we have always used. But the coordinates the phone list to seem to work the same in the magellan. How do I change them? What is the correct form? Obviously I am pretty clueless about how these things work but I love having the phone and access to a hint if we need it out in the field.

  17. Hubby and I have too much "stuff" so unless we have kids with us we seldom take anything. But we always leave a cache richer than we found it. I enjoy shopping for bargain swag I think would be popular with kids or universally liked. I get a thrill reading when someone has picked up something that I left and I wish more people would post what they take. I agree that you can't please everyone so putting in something you would enjoy finding seems like a great rule of thumb.

  18. We are very new newbies just trying out this caching stuff. I left the TNLN on the log because I thought that was "the thing to do" and I would like to fit in. We have loved every one we have found. We don't usually take anything but often leave something if there is room in the cache. I do try to leave a note because I enjoy reading the ones others have left. Gosh, the etiquitte is a little hard to figure out around here. Thanks for the interesting posts! Alicia in WA
