  1. Personally, why would you want someone else to log a cache for you? I guess for a few it is a numbers game. I would love to increase my find numbers but I love the thrill of finding what I'm looking for. I am planning a trip to Arizona in March and since I am the only avid cacher out of the four of us, I am planning on doing virtuals to log some caches. In hubby's words "I don't want to spend my vacation looking for a tupperware container in bushes in the desert!" So to log in the states I am visiting, Virtuals are fast and easy. However, I will not be doing an research for the answers before I leave. I will fulfill the log when I get there. The legwork will be all mine Just my 2 cents Guiderchachi
  2. Thank you to everybody who responded. You gave me some good tips. I will be sure to ask first, hold to the window and shut it off if told. I love all the little side stories that people tell when they answer a question. Just shows how much fun this sport is. Guiderchachi
  3. Actually, shortly after making this post, I found another thread that dealt with my question in detail. Thanks for your response. I have found out that Air Canada does allow the use of GPSrs so I may try it. My 11 year-old will get a kick out of it. Guiderchachi
  4. I'm curious. Would I screw up my GPS if I turned it on on a plane? I am flying from Newfoundland to Arizona at Easter and was wondering if I could turn it on. I guess I'm just curious to see if I can get elevation, speed, etc while in a plane. I have a garmin etrex(the yellow one), model. It may be a good time to punch in all the coords for the AZ and NM caches I want to do. Any help would be appreciated. Guiderchachi
  5. That's okay. Who knows, I may still try if I can get into town to get the coords for where I want to hold it. My biggest fear is that I will be all alone in a field with a bucket! There has never been an event here. Guiderchachi
  6. Thank you for the responses but the closest event to me is 700km away from me. That is why I wanted to host one here. Guiderchachi
  7. What was the deadline? I looked for one and asked about one and was told there wasn't a deadline. Does that mean I can't try to do one in my area now? I really wanted to one one on the west coast of Newfoundland. Guiderchachi
  8. Thanks for the info but I am now at home, safely returned. I was in Wasaga this past weekend and between wedding, visiting, shopping, socializing, etc., we managed to do the new Earth Cache and Capt. Jack's Treasure. Both excellent caches and well worth the trip! Guiderchachi
  9. Thanks for the tip. I have found a couple of "highway" Green Bay caches and hope to spend a weekend doing the 30+ that are out in that area. Guiderchachi
  10. Thanks for all the info. Anything in Collingwood, by any chance? GC
  11. If the bug was not logged in the cache it could be because the person who dropped it is on holidays and has not yet had a chance to log in to the website. I have picked up two bugs like that this week and I am still waiting to log one of them as a find. Be patient, you'll get it cleared up. Guiderchachi
  12. I am traveling to Wasaga Beach, ON, this weekend. Are they any outfitting stores in the Barrie, Wasaga Beach, Collingwood areas that have travel bugs? I know I can buy them on the net but I figured if I was in the neighbourhood, why not drop in and do it in person? Any help you can give me would be appreciated. Guiderchachi
  13. You did come on a bit strong, but that is what free speech is all about. That being said, I too have only been involved a little while and I enjoy both types of caches, the park and grabs as well as the treks. Since I live in Newfoundland, almost any cache that has been hidden here is a trek through mosquito infested woods. That in itself is a challenge. I also find the more public caches and the micros challenging because you have to be sneaky around the muggles. The Gps does not take you right to the cache usually (maybe the expensive ones do, mine doesn't) you still have to search and poke about. That is a challenge on a crowded trail or a busy lookout, or as you said a parking lot. Someone in this thread has already said, you get out what you put in. You do your caches any way you like and I wish you luck. Meanwhile, there must be an FTF out there with my name on it! Guiderchachi
  14. Hi, I'm from Pasadena so I can't really help you for your area. What I would suggest is to look at the cache pages and find out who is placing the caches in your area. The names I see most often for Labrador (although I don't know what area they are in ) are Arctic Nomad, QPMS kids, Labrador man. You can contact any of these through their cache page and I am sure they would help. Also, I know some (Volanges, for one) are members of the Atlantic Canada Geocaching Association (ACGA). You can ask questions on that site as well. It is www.atlanticgeocaching.com I hope this helps you. Good luck. Guiderchachi To the forum admin: I hope I have not broken any rules by using cachers names or submitting a website. If I have, remove my post and contact me. GC
  15. OK. Fair enough. And for the record, Quebec is not part of Atlantic Canada. All Right, Tomtec, the floor is yours. What is our next question?
  16. Actually, between the two that TOMTEC got and the one you had, you are both right. The 2 in Newfoundland are L'Anse Aux Meadows and Gros Morne and in Nova Scotia, it's Old Lunenburg. So it's up for grabs who gets to ask the next question. Fight it out amonst yourselves. Guiderchachi
  17. Off the top of my head I can only come up with 2: The old Town of Lunenburg in Nova Scotia The remains of the viking settlement in Newfoundland But there has got to be a few more... TOMTEC You got two of them, Where's the other one? Guiderchachi
  18. I'm here, now. Sorry it took so long but I had trouble with the PC. I will admit I peeked on that last one, but I didn't know I wasn't supposed to. Any way here is my question: With Earthcaches seeming to be all the rage these days, I have a related question. How many UNESCO World Heitage Sites are in Atlantic Canada, and what (or where) are they? As it is almost midnight in Newfoundland on a Friday night, I will check back in the morning to see who was right. Good luck and have a good one! Guiderchachi
  19. I find them annoying. On my PC they are in the middle of the cache listings. They divide the listings in such a way that I tend to miss a couple. This really bothers me when I am scanning the latest published in my area. Put the ads somewhere else, please. My 2 cents. Guiderchachi p.s. After reading through more forum topics, I realized that I put this reply in the wrong place. I was going to move it but on reading the proper topic, noticed it had gotten a bit off-topic and a bit personal. So I will keep my post here. If someone wants to move it, feel free. GC
  20. Home The most common place name in Canada is Mount Pleasant (15) followed by Centreville and Lakeview. Guiderchachi
  21. I didn't get all of your post, I missed the part about not having the right plug-in. The Source sells the serial-USB cable for 20.00 to 30.00 Guiderchachi
  22. I have a Garmin eTrex...the yellow one. I went to Walmart here in Newfoundland and bought the cable for 39.96. The Source has them for around $50.00 and have to order them in. In Walmart, look in the Sporting goods/hunting/fishing dept. Best $40.00 I ever spent! Good luck Guiderchachi
  23. Been a long time since I had Tequila. I guess any liquid will do when caching...might make the numbers on the GPS hard to read though! Guiderchachi
  24. Wow, thank you all so much. It makes my research easier. I will pass this thread onto my dad who I have recently introduced to caching and will also be at the wedding. We may get time to go together as I won't have a vehicle. danoshimano, I guess what goes around, comes around. I have posted some replies for your "Dream Vacation" search and now you have helped me! Thanks, one and all, Guiderchachi
  25. Look at the log of the bug itself to see who had it last and then check with them to see if they forgot to log it. They should be able to drop it and then you can pick it up. Guiderchachi
