  1. This thread is appalling! I just can't believe how many cachers are doing it. I know this has been mentioned before but I feel I must mention it again after seeing so many posts that show or talk about this nasty little problem. Please please please people! Do not use glass containers!
  2. I've been having a bit of trouble with micro caches. Anyone have a link to the proper folding method?
  3. It just isn't the same since they banned those little ketchup packets from caches.
  4. Lets leave the criminal charges question aside for a moment. What about Tim Horton's, Save-A-Lot, and Odd Lots. They could sue for lost revenue. That could be a tough nut to crack if you had to pay that off.
  5. Pretty helpful statement you have there. Quark is also a sub-atomic particle. Maybe an UBER small cache. More helpful than the first two replies. Until Isonzo Karst posted it was a valid yet unanswered question.
  6. LOL 100. I got bored with it long before I hit 100 ftfs.
  7. My old Etrex Legend I had to use the serial cable and get a usb to serial adapter. The serial port to the gps cable was a Garmin exclusive. The USB to serial port I got for like four bucks from some site I found from a google search.
  8. Riff that is a very good course of action. Wave that happens all to often and is one of the reasons that letterboxers tend to dislike us geocachers. Any time I have the chance to introduce someone to caching I make it a point to mention letterboxing. Sooner or later a geocacher will encounter a letterbox and if he/she is forewarned it is less likely to stress the relations between the two sports. I have often thought that some of the "cache maggots" out there are quite possibly po'd letterboxers.
  9. Don't worry about it. FTF is fun, but not that big a deal.
  10. If you can find it on one of the letterboxing sites you can attempt to contact the owner. Ask if you can put note on the inside of the lid or such to let geocachers know that they need to keep looking. Don't be surprised though if you don't get a warm response. Many letterboxers view geocachers in a less than friendly manner. They think of us as a bastardized version of their sport. Try not to fan the flames.
  11. Gosh, do you think that maybe some people don't read the Listing Guidelines? That makes me sad. There are published guidelines? Just kidding. How does the system know who to notify when I click that "submit this cache for review" link? The contact would just be a different type of entry in the queue. The system uses to coords you put in the cache listing. These are not necessarily the same as your home coords and may lead to a different reviewer. The truth is, as the illustrious Keystone has pointed out, that all the info you need is right at your fingertips. All you need to do is read the available material. A link to the reviewer may be convenient but hardly needed.
  12. You can come pull some of these dadgum fridge magnets off my skull. Edit to say - Thanks mom.
  13. 160,000 pennies would weigh about 1100 pounds. Did you run to the bathroom to weigh your pocket change?
  14. Yeah, I like the pooling together idea...but I'd be willing to wager they wouldn't take pennies. You'll say it's money, well, even banks won't take that many and certainly not unrolled! Sure they will. They'll charge a fee for it I'm sure. If someone sets up a fund I'll kick in. And I'll use a money order not pennies.
  15. $1600 bucks? I think we should all get together on this one and pay the bill. I say we pool our pennies. Seriously, let's send them 160,000 pennies. I wounder how long it'll take to get that many pennies together? Or how much they would weigh?
  16. Anyone have an idea how many ammo cans have been called in as possible bombs? How does that compare to other containers?
  17. Well then how about the fact that an ammo can looks like, well, an can of ammunition. Yes, an ammo can can be the wrong container for a particular hide.
  18. Wasn't there a story posted here a while back in which they blew up a DOT traffic counter?
  19. I am glad to at least see this quote. So many times in these stories the authorities want to "press charges".
  20. It is not reasonable to expect police officers to acquaint themselves with each of our little packages. I think rather it is our little community that needs to be more careful in how and where we hide our caches.
  21. I wanted you to join in and tell the whole story of Hucklebuckle. I was just gonna post it on your board that the thread was here, but you are WAY too quick for me and my phone kept ringing and I am moving into a new house and my kid is a PITA and....well, you know. What is that noise? Is that violin music I hear? What part did you want me to tell? The part about how it's from an old time kids game? Or the part about how we have a local cacher who uses it as his caching handle? I honestly don't know if the cachers started using it first for finds or the young man in question started the whole thing when he chose his geo-name. Either way I hope no one ever publishes another Huck-a-cypher. Yo Gof! I still can't figure out what you're trying to say in that stolen geocoin thread. This is confusing, is there a merged thread? I can tell you, that the first wave of cachers in our area (2002 joiners like Dru, The Moms, SF1, Brogan, etc..) were using it before I started, and I cached with most of them personally pretty early on in my career (before the end of 2003) and was introduced to it. That "retired" lad didn't come on until late 2004, and had a different username in the beginning anyways. I do know whenever someone outside of WNY hears Huckle Buckle, they usually have no clue what it means. Hey Urk! We'll go slow and see if we can get you up to speed. All I said was that a person who used to hang out in these forums has been holding one of our bugs for a long time. He/she(or it) has it in an unpublished cache so that it doesn't show on his/her profile. Other bugs and coins also "reside" in this sham cache. Enough of this, it's the wrong thread. No merged thread, this started over at NYGO. It never really occurred to me to wonder too much about what came first to geocaching, the hucklebuckle shout or young Mr. Buckle's handle. I wasn't surprised that he "retired" though. At that age there is no time for things like geocaching AND girls. Oh, and I don't like cyphers.
  22. A once used to was who ain't been around the forums for a while.
