  1. From the geocoin section of the forum the general consensus is that traders want coins that are unactivated. Same deal with any coins you may sell on ebay down the road. To most an activated coin does not have the same value as a fresh coin, hence trading is much more difficult.

With that said if you plan to keep the coin go ahead and activate them. If you think you will trade them you may be better off not activating it.

One thing that most collectors will do is purchase multiple coins if they really like them. They may activate one and then trade or sell the others.

Either way welcome to the coin addiction!

  2. To post a picture you took of a travel bug you first need to write a log entry that you picked it up out of a cache etc. After you have posted your log there will be a link in the upper right hand side of the entry that says upload photo. Use that link to post a picture with your log. By now you have probably surfed to another location. So instead of writing a new log click on your username on geocaching.com to see your most recent entries. Click on the visit log link at the end of the entry for the TB and then choose upload photo from that page. Good luck!

  3. Congratulations on your STF prize. The tracking number that the message is referring to is the public tracking number for your coin. All trackable items have a public number like this that you can share with people so they can see the profile for your item. You are welcome to give this number out although there really isn't much of a reason to.

The number on the coin itself is a private number. This is the number used to track/discover the coin. This number is just like a tracking number on a travel bug. This number should not be posted publicly.

    An example:

We activated a GeoWoodstock 5 coin. The public number used to reference this item is TB1MP2R. This number can be typed in and it will take you to the page for the coin in my collection. However, it will not allow you to discover or grab the coin. For that you would need the number on the coin itself which can not be posted in public.

    Hope this helps!

  4. I'd say it would be all the TBs in the "Show off your vehicle as a travel bug thread." B) That Excursion looked pretty pricey. And thirsty too! B)

But those are for discovery only B) Now if the owner of those bugs would let us trade ;)

  5. It all depends. I know that "The Grand Traveler" TB14Q14 which we put out cost about 18-20 after tax. That was our most expensive one. As for what we have found / discovered / seen most TBs tend to be on the inexpensive side of things. Although not really a travel bug I think that most geocoins also have between a $10 - 15 price tag on them. I don't think cost really matters as long as you are having fun and hopefully putting out things that are unique!

  6. I got an email from Coins and Pins announcing some new coins that were up for sale. At the bottom was the following message regarding the new run of the FSM coin for those who are waiting:

Important notice of the Flying Spaghetti Monster coin presale:

The FSM pre-order coins are currently in production. We estimate the coins will start shipping out around 17 Sep 2007 to those who ordered them. Those of you who show an order on hold in your account can expect to start receiving these coins in two weeks (longer for overseas orders). Please allow adequate time for transit. These are still in production and any delays in production will cause a delay in shipping.

Won't be in time for the OSTA event but still worth the wait!

  7. Nice design. Hopefully the text change will help with new cacher confusion. I'm most thrilled with the idea of only minting a single tag without the copy tag. If this decreases the production cost and ultimately the cost to geocachers I think we may get more bugs out there. I never bothered with the copy tags in the first place. Great idea!

  8. Any idea when the coins will be in from the mint and the orders from coins and pins will ship? I am going to be doing a geocaching presentation for the Oregon Science Teacher Association and was hoping to have the coins in hand at the meeting to share with others of like mind. :o

  9. My dream of a BRoKeN W Personal coin has been fulfilled! They sent me an email today and have offered to send me one of their coins in the mail tomorrow. Their kindness is amazing. Thank you for making my geo-coin-dream come true. Now I just have to save enough money to mint my own coin to share the same kind of happiness with others in return!
  10. I haven't been collecting very long but I would love to get a Broken W Personal coin (cachin' in your dreams). Such a beautiful coin.

As for a set, The Rock-Paper-Scissors set is on my list as it is how my wife and I settle any trivial argument.

Has there ever been a Polish or Peace Corps coin made? if so those wold be very high on the priority list as well...but then again I also dream...

  11. Man, real pricey!!

I lowered my original reservation by 1 since they were so costly, but order placed.

Yeah, a bit more than the usual 9.99 for a coin but I'm glad that some people lowered their original reservations. I ended up increasing mine by 4 :anicute::blink:

  12. how do i place a geo coin and log it when i am staring a new geo i been looking around to find out how to do so.If you could help me that would be great.

If this is a new geocoin that your purchased first you need to click on the trackable item link on the left hand side of the page and enter the tracking number and go through the activation page to activate it (like a travel bug). Then the coin will be in your inventory and you can drop it into a cache just like any other travel bug.

If this is a coin you found in a cache you will need to enter the tracking number and log that you found it and it will be added to your inventory so you can drop it in a cache.

If this is going in a new cache that you are putting out just post a note to like you would a found it! log on the cache and write something like coin drop and drop the coin from your inventory into the cache.

Hope this helps. If you are still confused please try to write again with some more details about your exact situation.

    Welcome to the fun!

  13. From the identical thread in the garage sale arena it looks like others have found good deals through froogle.com (which I forgot about). Here's the text. Either way it looks like there are deals to be had on a great GPS unit!

A quick froogle.com search comes up with 60CSx’s as low as $271.99 after the Garmin rebate with many sellers in the $279.00 range after the Garmin rebate.

I completely forgot that froogle existed *LOL*. Very cool on the even lower prices for those who are still looking to upgrade or buy their first GPSr. I just knew that REI has always been a very reliable retailer in the pacific north west and wanted to help others find a good deal. Thanks for helping track down one even better! :)
