I've got one of those: Wired! v2.0 and as long as the fair warning is there, such caches are perfectly fine. The usual rule of thumb applies here: if you don't like them or can't do them, then don't do them.
-
Sounds good to me! Actually, I've been planning to spend a couple days caching Letchworth. Let me know when you're available. I'll try to get Brogan onboard for this. I'm 11 caches short of 100 and this seems to be a great place to celebrate #100

Soon, very soon... Thanks for the tip Art!

I own 2: an LED Aurora headlamp (PrincetonTech)that I've been using for night caching as well as a backup 7 LED flashlight: StreamLight I'm happy with both and the price was right for each.

I'm sick of cemetary caches - new rule proposed
-=(GEO)=- replied to AltDotAir's topic in General geocaching topics
New Rule -> No More New Rules! If you want to ban something, start with virtual caches ;-) -
Verboten, Since you're in the Buffalo area, you should start with the Olmsted cache series. They're right in your backyard and they're easy enough to give you an enjoyable introduction to the game. After that, you can expand your circle and venture further.
-
This must be it: Gibsonville Doublet
-
Good for you I wish that you had joined Brogan and I on our night caching outtings last winter. Who knows, maybe we can set something up one of these days?
-
For my Meridian Platinum, I use an 'Eagle Creek' pouch normally intended for a camera. It even has a built-in pocket for spare batteries

BeDoggy... If I were you, I wouldn't care (so much) about what other people think. The 'keeping up with the Jones' business is just a waste of time and energy. Just do things on your own terms and you'll just enjoy yourself all the more. My 2.5 cents.

New Forums - Complaints - Praise, etc...

Things are getting a little weird... All of a sudden, my former login (1000111-1000101-1001111) has re-appeared in the forum postings even on the posts written as -=(GEO)=-. It also seems like the number of posts for a given user got mangled too. Otherwise, from a cosmetic standpoint, the new forums are nice except for this icon which is just too loud when repeated so much: What happened to the user profiles? It's no longer showing the same info, especially found/hidden. [This message was edited by -=(GEO)=- on March 28, 2003 at 06:29 AM.] -
Given what we know about the structure of the table, that would be straight forward and a good enough indicator for me at least
-
No overhaul required to do this. I guess that to understand this feature some understanding of server-side development and SQL is required.
-
I maintain that it's achievable fairly simply strictly using SQL given the location info provided on the cache page by the hider.
-
I understand what you're saying. Still, there -are- queues which are likely stored as database records. The number of queues (I don't see why more than one would be needed either) or the number of approvers should not matter. For instance 'select count(*) from CacheQ where State = 'NY' and Country = 'US';' will tell you how many records are in queue for NY state. It does not matter how many approvers work on that queue. I realize that I'm making the assumption that the queue is unique for all regions and that it's stored in a SQL table. I can also think of another easy way using SQL to determine precisely -how many- caches are pending before mine too. Your comparison with $tarbuck$ is like comparing apples to oranges. The 2 processes are completly different: the cache approval process is -highly- distributed and parallel while the coffee making process is -highly- sequential.
-
I have one of these and I really like it. I use it when driving (the big screen helps) and caching of course. However, if you have a compass you can go with a different Meridian. The other sensors in the Plat(temp/pressure) are nice to have but not essential for caching. I can't comment on the Garmins because I've never owned one. I'm sure they are good units too. My problem with them is that they're so proprietary and add-ons get expensive. For instance, you can't use a regular SD card in a Garmin but a Meridian will accept it. Also, the fact that Magellan is a French company should not matter. Last time I checked, we're geocaching here, not debating politics. GPSr units should be judged on their own merits. Period.
-
While the approval of a cache is pending, I'd like to see the position of the entry in the queue next to the 'This cache has not been approved yet. Once it is approved, it will be listed on the site.' message.

I love the hunt and a logbook is all I need to celebrate a find. As a matter of fact, one of mine is like that and people seem to love it (Analyze This!).
-
When he gets the chance.
-
That I usually don't trade with regular caches. I cache mostly for the pleasure of the hunt and virtuals don't seem to present much of a challenge when MapQuest leads you right to it.
-
I've done -1- virtual to see what the fuss was all about and quite frankly I found the exercise boring. Now, I only do a virtual to get it off my list of nearest caches not yet found. If it was up to me, I'd put them in the same class as benchmarks and would not list them among real caches. My 2.5 cents...

All this while kicking *** no less -
Here are the caches which have had their hide quickly 'spoiled': 'Boys Will Be Boys' and 'Thank Heaven For Little Girls' Read the logs from the beginning. You can almost tell where the degradation started... As a rule of thumb, I don't use bark as a cover because it never gets put back properly from what I've seen (unless only one -easy- piece does the job). To hide my caches, I seek hollow trees, deep logs or I camouflage the cache so that it blends with the surroundings. I also make magnetic caches for more urban environments.
-
Nothing upsets me more than reading cache logs or going on a cache maintenance trip only to find out that a cache is in plain sight or almost exposed when it was well hidden to begin with! Why can't people hide them the way they find them? Is that too much to ask? This kind of lazyness only hurts the game in the end.
