SuSander... I've emailed you. I'd like to see the file being loaded. Also, it would be helpful if you could provide me with some info regarding the type of your PPC and what other apps were running when this happened. Thanks, Fabien.

Sorry about the delay for the PPC 2002 version. I've been jammed at work Hopefully, I can find some time this weekend.
-
I don't have an installer for the PPC itself at this time. However, it's easy to simply copy the executable and its dependencies directly to the PPC. I could provide you with a zip or a Cab file with everything you need. Will you be able to expand such an archive on the PPC?

EarlyMorningHours... Would you mind sending me a copy of a .LOC file as produced by GPS Tuner? It would also help if you could include the corresponding section of the GPX file for it. Thanks.
-
EarlyMorningHours ... Thanks for the feedback. It's much appreciated. I have made a note of your request about exporting cache data in .LOC format. I'll add it along with the others for the next release. I haven't tried 'GPS Tuner' yet because I don't own a GPS receiver for my PDA (yet). I may buy one down the road though when the time comes to do some coding using one... I still have to get the PPC 2002 version done before the next release though... I thought I might do it this weekend, but since it was so nice today I went caching all day instead

EarlyMorningHours... quote: I am curious as to how much and how far you want GPXSonar to go. Do you plan on having the app converse with GPS units In the very short term, I am planning on adding a few more waypoint 'Export' functions. Currently, 'GPXSonar' only supports the Meridian protocol because this is the make of my GPSr. However, I am aware that Garmin and Brunton do support SD cards in some of their GPSrs (not to mention the iQue 3600) and I will support them soon. 'Street & Trips' will also be supported. The most important feature that I would like to add to GPXSonar is the ability to synchronize with www.geocaching.com . In other words, if the powers that be at gc.com agree to it (and so far, I've heard nothing back from Jeremy), you will be able to log your caches and TBs directly from the PDA at the push of a button. Regarding the support of GPS receivers: I am not sure that I want to compete with existing software such as CacheDragon and others. I just don't have that much free time But I won't exclude the possibility of such a feature. Sometimes, I just get the itch to code something fun There's a few other features that I have in store for some major release but I don't want to talk about them for the time being.

Hummm... Too bad they don't provide the source of the conversion routine itself. I would have integrated it right away.

Geek-Qualizer... quote: 1. My Pocket Queries are large and so the performance of scrolling thru the listings is slow. If there was a way to speed this up that would be nice. Not a big deal though. Unfortunately, I can't do much about speeding up the scrolling through the list unless I replace the control that I use for it. Even then, there's no guaranty that things would be significantly faster. What is the speed of your PPC? quote:2. I like to keep the "founds" in my queries so I can look them up if I ever need to go back to a cache. So having a means of maybe specifying my username and having the program automatically marking the caches I have already found in the field notes would be great. I'll look into it. As far as I know, this should not be a problem though. Thank you (and crashmore) for the feedback. It's much appreciated and a great motivator ;-)

Hi all, I've written a geocaching application targeting Pocket PC 2003 and I'm looking for a few good men to help with beta-testing it. You can download the software here. Regards, Fabien.

HP iPaq 1945 here... It's -really- light and small and perfect to go caching with for that reason. I'd recommend a Pocket PC anytime over a Palm for a single reason: simplicity. All you have to do with a Pocket PC is to copy your GPX file(s) over and you are ready to go. With the Palm on the other hand, you have to run the GPX file through 3 conversion programs to get what you need. My 2 cents...

I'd suggest a Magellan Meridian GPS: here's one for $146.67 http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/offering/list/-/B00005OLY7/used/ref%3Dbuy%5Fpb%5Fu%5F/103-7413751-3872663 You get the benefit of the expandability via SD cards and mapping of course.
-
My 2 cents... May I suggest getting a Magellan Meridian or are you allergic to Magellan? You can use regular SD cards with these w/o hacking anything. I agree with you that the price of the "branded" memory cards is outrageous and that's precisely for this reason that I went with the less proprietary solution and got a Meridian.

I really enjoyed the story! And just for that, I'd say "Take her again!" for another funny post here, even though I voted "No Way". But I do appreciate her tenacity in a way... So maybe you should try this: why don't you create a geocaching 'course' along the path that she travels during her hour long health walk? That way, she'd get used to the geocaching experience on familiar grounds and at her pace. You'd have fun setting up the hides and changing things around on her every so often. I'm sure it would end up being fun for all involved. Later on, maybe, you might be able to take her out in the wild again, depending on the results of that little experiment.

I'm glad I had a headlamp tonight ... Came in handy finding...my way around... for a change ;-) The power came back on around 9:35 pm here.

Looking for a bike..suggestions?
-=(GEO)=- replied to donbadabon's topic in General geocaching topics
About 2 years ago, I go a Haro mountain bike ICS 3.0. The price was right (about $500). Someone mentioned earlier in this thread that the components on the bike make or break it and this is the absolute truth. I'd also recommend an alloy frame instead of steel to reduce the weight of the bike. On long rides, you'll appreciate it. -
Moun10Bike... Congrats on winning that staff btw One of my votes was for you actually.

Glow in the dark Signature tokens
-=(GEO)=- replied to TEAM 360's topic in General geocaching topics
Team Kender... Yup, I stamp them myself. Centering is definitely an issue but nothing I get overly worried about. After all, each one is unique. I found out that drinking a couple beers before I start a series instead of coffee works well and makes things more 'centered' ;-) More seriously though...I line up the upper left corner of the 'G' stamp (which looks like my forum sig.) with the edge of the token and press hard for a few seconds. The other side is easier because the stamp is smaller and round. After just a couple tokens, I get into a groove and they all look right. -
Glow in the dark Signature tokens
-=(GEO)=- replied to TEAM 360's topic in General geocaching topics
This is cool. I like the 'Glow In The Dark' kind to leave in caches done at night. But otherwise, I like creating my own signature tokens (wooden nickels stamped on both sides). -
Seems that it's not showing the sig picture because of an access denied error on the web server.

Help need with a new small cache container.

Very nice! Have you tried thin rubber gaskets? I just googled in "rubber gaskets" and one of the links with promising stuff was http://www.rubber-gaskets.com/foam-rubber-products.html . Their foam tape might do it. -
MarcB... I once flew back from FL with about 10 TBs in my bag. I did check the bag so it wasn't with me in the airplane. I had no problems. Hope this helps.

Platinum + 256MB SD card (Sandisk)

Could it be that the MeriPlat only recognizes 128MB SD cards? -
opensource magellan sportrak firmware

Warm Fuzzies... A bit earlier in this (funny) thread, you wrote: quote: Do you even know that firmware is hardly ever written in bloated languages like C++? I don't know how much development you've done in C++ but I can assure you that there are definite ways of avoiding the BLOAT in C++ code once you understand the finer aspects of the language. It's wrong to assume that because a language is of a higher level than say... assembler, it's going to cause bloat. I've heard in the past the same statements about coding in C vs. assembler. It's kinda funny to see this repeated now with C++. I don't want to start a 'religious' war here or anything. I'm just trying to point out a misconception. Regards, Fabien. -
In the Finger Lakes area, check out the 'Bear Swamp' area just South of Skaneateles lake. Many caches in a very unique place. Also, I have numerous caches around Buffalo and South of Buffalo. Most of them will take you to nice areas, some of them undevelopped, wild or gorgeous (pun intended). I also recommend the caches in the Niagara gorge region (by Mr Mom & Mrs Mom). Guaranteed to 'WOW' you. Read the logs and go with was seems appealing... Regards, Fabien.

That's strange... I have an iPaq 1945 and also use GpxView all the time. Like you, I also copy the pocket query file directly from the email to the iPaq (usually via the SD card). The caches show right up in GpxView. The only problem is that GpxView has an issue with bitmaps under PPC 2003 but that's another story... In your case, it seems that the file is getting mangled somehow. By any chance, are you having ActiveSync run the file through some conversion? If that's the case, disable the automatic conversion of GPX files and try again. Hope this helps.
