  1. Explorist 600 pretty has most of that and is usually accurate to 1 foot or less on a good day. No vertical speed and I'm not sure about average speed. Should work.
  2. I had an explorist 400 that lasted about a year with barely a scratch! I then had to return it because a nearby compass corrupted the memory. Then I got myself the 600! I has lasted me 3 months.
  3. The explorist 210 or 400 have everything you want. They are both rugged and syncable. They are waterproof to 1 meter for 30 minutes. They are cheap for a good unit. If you want to step it up about $50, you could get the 500 with color. Search for prices with http://www.nextag.com/.
  4. BuyeRetail has the best price for the 600. Buy only the 600 if you want the 300 plus color plus connectivity. 600=500+300. You can use the 300 for caching but it can get annoying having to manually change the coords of a P.O.I. http://buyeretail.com/product.asp?i=MAGEX600
  5. I believe that you can change the serial # but you may have to reinstall the program first. You could also install the app on another computer and just use that one for the XL.
  6. Explorist is cheap and VERY simple to use! GET IT!
  7. This is a very good deal. Has a lot of features like baromiter and stuff. You cannot enter coords from computer and it is not color, But this is a great deal!
  8. I don't recognize 3.1.75 as a firmware version...is this for a 100, 200 or 300? Those models can't have their firmware upgraded. Bear in mind that your GPS is not accurate to within 1 or 2 feet. At its best, it may be within 6 to 10 feet under ideal conditions; in less than ideal conditions it could be 30 feet or more. Add this error to the person's GPS who placed the cache in the first place, and a 50 foot error may be normal operation. Another thing to check: what country are you in? If you're in the US, then never mind. But I recall something like what JamieZ described coming into play for Australia downloads on the Explorist of waypoints from the gc.com boards (I'll explaim more if needed). Off topic, but is there any difference in accuracy between 600 and 210? My 600 is usually acurate to two feet or less..... Do they have a different antenna?
  9. Make sure your map datum is set to WSG84. There is a map datum that is 50 ft. off, NAD29 or something. It could also be that the coordinates for the cache were just wrong.
  10. For complaint #6, just change the measurement to metric system in active setup.
  11. Certain cases allow you to use the unit while enclosed and you may want to try that. If you are a real D.I.Y. person, you could rig up semiconductor electric heaters in the case.
  12. Mark the two holes, go to menu>adv. features>area calculation and select the two holes. (make sure the holes do not have numbers in thier name, numbers cause some glitches when doing area calc.) On the screen the distance between the two holes should pop up. If it does not, upload the points to google earth and on the toolbar select tools>gps. It will tell you you need to subscribe to the plus version. Ignore this. Right click on the window and select ruler. Click on the two points and the distance will show up.
  13. Magellan is way more accurate in my expirience. I do not understand why this would be a joke, seeing as a standard explorist is 14 channel and WAAS enabled while a standard garmin is 12 channel and not WAAS enabled. I went caching with my 600 and my friend's 60CSx. The magelland got me right on top of the cache, and the 60CSx had me about 10 feet off. I don't know what you mean by a "standard" Garmin not being WAAS enabled? You then went on to mention a 60CSx which is surely WAAS enabled (as most Garmin GPSr's are). As for 14 vs 12 channels, what the use of having more when most people are only receiving 8-11 channels max? As for your little experience with your friend, are you really trying to put the Garmin down for being 10 foot from perfect? Ten foot is great, this is the first time I've seen someone complain about it. As for the Mag being spot on, that's great as well, but chances are that on the next cache the Garmin will be close while the Mag is a couple feet further away. Judging units by one single benchmark is not telling at all. Both are great units, both companies have advantages and disadvantages. However, your reasons don't compare either in any type of solid fashion. Sorry, what I mean is that being WAAS enabled is not something that garmin thinks is essential. I am aware that the 60CSx wis WAAS enabled, I was just stating that my explorist was more accurate (this is probably because of TrueFix). Where I live, 10 feet can be essential in accuracy for geocaching and I also use my unit for surveys. All I ment was that in my expirience magellan units are more accurate, so the joke about getting closer with the magellan is actually a valid statement.
  14. Explorist 210 or higher has everything you ask. However, only the explorist 400 or higher are S.D. expandable but you need an adapter (only $9 and it fits in the gps) to use triple A batteries.
  15. Magellan is way more accurate in my expirience. 16. Explorists do not retain goto routes unless it is a street route (pretty sure).
  17. I have an explorist 600 and I love it! I have never had problems with it besides this one, but this one is very annoying! When I do a goto, The explorist will draw a line between me and the point (as usual). But when I go to another screen and go back to the map, either the standard yellow/red line is stuck in one place and it only shows a thin black line between me and the goto point, or it that and the unit does the same thing and does not forgets that I requested a goto. Anyone know how to fix this?
  18. This was asked before, but I need to know too. It seems like everyone forgot to answer. One of my units is an explorist 600. How do I reset the unit to look for new birds? I don't want to hard reset, I have had bad expiriences with that.
  19. I found abetter website before and I will look for it again, but here is mil. gps sat status data. Looks official.
  20. Just download the .exe from magellan to the desktop and double click it. If your explorist is in file transfer or firmware upload mode, the .exe will find the unit. The file should look like eX500v2_03.exe.
  21. A GPSr will only give you a position after it has determined it can not immediately track more satellites. For example, If you are in a canyon and your GPSr can only track 3 satellites after say... a minute of being on, it will make do with 3 sats.
  22. I live in southern CA and I have never had a day when I do not recieve WAAS. However, I believe to make your unit see the new WAAS sats, you have to restart the unit.
  23. The MacBooks do not just emulate windows, they run it flawlessly. You will be able to do anything that you might do on a windows computer.
  24. Does anyone know how to view your position live with mapsend topo 3D and an explorist? I know you have to put the explorist into NMEA mode, but I am stuck after that. Also, is it possible to record a track WHILE CONNECTED to the computer?
