  1. I will be out placing a cache in the moonlight...If you have heard nothing from me by tomorrow then send out the search dogs!! I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  2. You will all need them when my night cache goes live! I was out today scouting a location and it is looking good for Sunday! Oh by the way I was thinking of putting a maglite in as first finder I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  3. Yes you can use it in Italy (Hence global positioning) You might have to let it auto aquire or possibly tell it the time zone (I am not familiar with the Sportrack settings) No problem at all with customs, I take mine abroad often. Have a great trip there are about 100 caches in Italy and A lot of them have never been found! Now that sounds like a challenge. I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  4. Please don't feel intimidated by us The TMA thing was just a spit in a bucket and you would do well to read back through our posts and you will quickly see that Geocaching is a VERY family oriented activity. We have a lot of family groups caching, Team Tate, Nia, Amy and Adams Dad to name three and if you read their logs you will see how much fun they have. My family is all grown but I still manage to borrow youngsters to go caching with As with any "Family" there will be squabbles but as you will see they usually end without tears and "Flaming" and "Trolls" are rarely if ever seen on the UK side of the forums. Enjoy your new toy...Wash my mouth out!!! Your new ESSENTIAL. The Merman I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  5. Thinking about it it is actually not a bad thing. I have the whole of the UK on my Emap thanks to R&R but I still have the US base map as well so that is two for the price of one! I find the US base map quite adequate for caching while over there, even though the road detail is not featured too highly at least it gets me to the cache area. I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  6. quote:Originally posted by pepperpot:Thought this might help. I have just made a posting on another page about the cost of Etrex venture model. I had a reply from someone in the usa who tells me that the Etrex venture retails in Walmart for around $160 ! That is one heck of a saving on the Uk price that can vary anywhere between £160 and £210. So if you know anyone who is of to see Micky mouse in Florida ( like I am in April) get them to buy you one over there. Pepperpot. Me too(I go over to see my fiancee every couple of months) The only thing about US GPSr's is the North American base map, but hey....I can live with that. I bought an Emap and cable for £80 add to that a UK roads and rec for £25 off Ebay when I got home and I would say BARGAIN! I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  7. quote:Originally posted by Motley Crew:Hi everyone. Forgive my ignorance (1st post & newbie - double trouble!) but I'm at a loss as to how I can locate archived caches for 'viewing' purposes. I'm sure I spotted a virtual cache at Hill Head, Hampshire on the web site while lurking recently but now I cannot locate it on the site anywhere. As it was(?) is(?) close to my home I was hoping to use it as a 'training' aid for me, the better half, the kids, the dog, the GPS etc etc ... Cheers for now motley. adj. varied in appearance or character. crew. n. group of people. Hi there Motley Crew The cache you talk about is in fact a locationless cache, I have emailed you the details to save explaining it here. For anyone else it is Beach Hut Hunt by Amy and Adams Dad cheers I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  8. IF the 12 is still the one you are interested in then you can get it for £116.95 from HERE They also do the 72 for £139.95 The Merman I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  9. I went out today and bought the reflective tape (£3.49 from Halfords) I came back to my boat and went into Mapsource to check out a couple of areas. OMally and I are doing a D&P on Saturday and going out nightcaching, so it might be placed for Sunday......watch this space!! 10. quote:Originally posted by megalithic:Well I'm a newcomer as a result of the recent fracas with HH/TMA. I don't have a GPS though so I'm a bit stuffed at the first hurdle :-) I'll have to see about that... Cheers, Andy Responsible cachers are welcome at http://www.megalithic.co.uk Prehistoric sites in the UK, Ireland and beyond Thousands of Images, Links, Downloads, Maps, Web Search, Members Features Andy you will find that until such time as you can find a GPS you like you should be able to find a couple of caches using a good old fashioned map and compass. (I feel sure that as a "Megarak" you will be capeable with a map!) There are a couple that I met while caching in the USA who have something like 30 finds without a GPS and they never intend to get one. (They claim that orienteering style caching is more fun) I have to say that I did one without a GPS and it was a fun experience and took me back to my days roaming the Peak District as a kid. It is the sport with a GPS but still lots of fun without. On a side note....You will be taken to many beautiful places that will make you glad you went to and you would never think of going to them without a "Shove" from another cacher I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  11. quote:Originally posted by geomania: Thanks for that Merman. I'm a bit confused by your comments on price, though. 170 quid seems a bit cheap if we're talking about the 12XL, but way to dear for a 12... The cheapest deals I've found this last week or so are: 12XL - 200 quid 12 - 129 quid 72 - 145 quid 76 - 199 quid 76MAP - 310 quid 76MAP S - 369 quid Anyone beat those? G. OK well I was quoting the list price for the 12. If you shop around you can get them for the prices Postie quoted. I stand by what I said about the 12 being "dated" by todays standards, but it is still a fine set. I did find a site that was doing a spectacular deal on Magellan sets I will see if I can find it. 12. I just wondered who they were? If you mean Groundspeak then yes. If you mean generically the Americans then no. I think the site belongs to all the people who support it. The fact that it started in the USA should not be an issue. An American cacher has no more right to the services of Geocaching.com than we do. I just reread what you said and... I think you were referring to the fact that it is an American owned site...so just ignore this post I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  13. I am coming down to Cornwall in July (I mentioned it to Mike and Mandy at the bash) and would hope that I can get to meet up with some of you for A. a drink and B. some caching? I will let you know my dates closer to the time. I will be there with my girlfriend who is American and although she loves caching, it is the scenery that knocks her socks off. 14. quote:Originally posted by geomania:Sorry, forgot to mention in my last post - Looking also for opinions on the Garmin GPS72... Ta, G Omally looked at the 72 at the London Boat Show and was not overly impressed but then EGNOS/WAAS (Which is still in testing) for the price makes it look like a useful entry level GPSr. I have a Garmin 12 as my backup set and it is a very acurate easy to read unit but low on features for the price you pay. A second hand one might be worth the price, but £170 ish for a new one is a little over the top for caching. It is still a popular unit for boaters though. I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  15. I was lulled into a false sense of security by the first cache monster! He allowed me to find the first one with ease and BAM....I was hooked I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  16. I was mulling over the idea of doing a new cache which would be a night only cache. The way it would work would be for the co-ordinates to lead to a starting position and thereafter the hunter would need to follow a trail of reflective night pins to lead to the physical cache which would be a microcache (Also marked with reflectors) The cache would not be possible to do in daylight as the pins would be too small to see, but would light up like cats eyes in the dark in torchlight. I am not sure how popular this would be (but it might drag D&P down to Hampshire more often ) Anyone know of anything similar in the UK? I know there are similar in the USA. 17. quote:Originally posted by Naefearjustbeer:Try making your own out of a pencil eraser. I have cut a flag (St Andrews Cross) into the end of a rubber and it works quite well . The price put me off buying one. I am sure a steady hand and a scalpel could produce an intricate design. Hear about the 2 blondes that walked into a bar? You would of thought at least one of them would of seen it!! Actually that is not a bad idea. 19. Is this graven in stone yet C&M as I leave the country on the 7th and would love to attend. I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  20. I notice with both my Garmin units, battery life seems to play a part in the strength of the lock I get. When I am down to about a quarter the signal seems less strong. This can't be right surely? I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  21. Oh how long ago it all seems now! I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  22. To really be seen as litter they would have to have been abandonned by the original owner with no intention of removing the item, and no longer be of use to said owner eg empty can or dead sofa. If we have the landowners explicit permission then it cannot be litter. Just my 1.29 pence worth (Exchange rates may vary) quote:How about underwater caches? Are they subject to marine salvage? I think they would be treasure trove I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  23. I was trying to find an inexpensive Ink stamp and the only solution I could find would be to change my username to PAID IN FULL Does anyone have any ideas where to get stamps made inexpensively? 24. Seems like a lot of money to go missing out of the first cache you place it in! I wonder how many people would move them on like a TB? I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  25. So Jane I bet you are missing being in sunny(sic) Bosham with this wonderful wintry weather? I see that some of the States are having their coldest weather in recorded history. (12degrees F in Florida) Nice to see you are keeping abreast of the UK forum I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
