  1. I have an spv phone which has html browsing capability. I can actually go on to GC.com and log a cache with it live. The thing that I found was that I needed to disable pictures to keep the size of the gprs download smaller. Now I can do about 20 GC.com pages for £2 without all the gifs and such having to load. I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  2. Yeah..What they said And next time, John may remember his trademark hat!! (He left the famous hat in Omally's car) Thanks for a great fun weekend to all the folks on the Isle of Wight, particularly the sadist known as RCWIOW I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  3. I cached in Florida in 95 degrees and 90% humidity which was fun I am working nights this week and the temp on my boat as I was trying to sleep yesterday was 101.2F (Sorry I can't do centigrade, I still work in old money!) which was a little bit uncomfortable even with two fans running I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  4. I received my pass and camping permit yesterday and all I need to do now is to remember how to erect my tent! By the way, the writing on the envelope is very nice, was that Mrs Brambler? I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  5. I have just finished three weeks vacation which took me to Yorkshire, Warwickshire the Isle of Wight and London and the only geocache related thing that I did was a bit of maintainance on Tumuli Turmoil. I did however walk miles in beautiful countryside and visit some stunning places, which is to me like geocaching without the lunchbox at the end. I would not care if I only did ten more caches this year as long as there were ten great memories to go with them. Also I find that I much prefer winter caching than summer. Not much fun when you are sweating up a hill in 80 degrees! I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  6. I shall be available to assist in whatever way I can. I will be arriving as early as possible on the Friday as I have some stuff that I am bringing up for Paul Blitz for the event. Besides, I need to be there to annoy and pester that Omally bloke I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  7. Friday and Saturday for me. One car One Tent Thanks The Merman I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  8. quote:Originally posted by Pharisee:Add this to my previous posting... I have a multi-cache that, for whatever reason, has not proved too popular. Maybe the fact that it took Hornet a couple of hours to complete puts people off a bit .<snip> John Age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability. Omally and I set one that spreads over 40 miles and can just be done in one day. Everyone who has done it has enjoyed the work that it involves, but we felt it important to stress how hard it was before people attempt it. I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  9. Tim and June you are both truly legends in UK geocaching and to think that Tim has had a crock leg for quite a while. What will you guys do when he is better!! I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  10. Just ordered more batteries (You can never have enough) and I think this is the best deal I have found to date. £10.99 for 8 2100 mAh Ni-Mh batteries. HERE I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!

Via French from Latin lassitudo , from lassus 'weary'.] No I am afraid that neither of those units are EGNOS/WAAS Chris but hey, what's a few feet between friends I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  12. quote:Originally posted by Pharisee:Come on, guys... <snip>If you're going to stick one of them things on Chesil Beach and call it a cache, I'm going to call it a day John Oh nothing so easy John...nothing so easy!! 13. This is a very neat idea Micro cache stones Mark, you just have to get some of these in stock at G:UK. In time for the HCC would be good, although I don't hold out too much hope of that. I am already rubbing my hands at the possabilities. I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  14. As an aside, I was using my map 176c on my boat with Bluechart the other day and it was showing my position to within 10 feet. After going up on deck with it and getting a lock on sat 33, it displayed 4 feet accuracy. This would not actually be relevent if not for the fact that on the Bluechart chart it actually shows the finger pontoon on the chart and on overzoom I could clearly see that my boat was exactly alongside the correct pontoon. With EGNOS off I could never get it to show my boat that acurately. As for channels being taken up by WAAS/EGNOS, I don't ever remember a time when I have had more than ten locks on sats, even in the middle of the sea with clear horizons. 15. quote:Originally posted by Pharisee:What's wrong with using the CB radios that have been around for quite a while. You've got a whole heap of channels, a choice of frequencies and greater range. Now that all the mindless morons use mobile phones, the CB channels are pretty much clear and quite useable. John Age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability. John I suppose that in my previous existance as a truck driver, I got totally hacked off by CB radio and used to switch it off as soon as I got off the ferry from France. Too many idiots on there for my liking. Plus you need a licence to use one which you don't with PMR's I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!
  16. Omally and I used my PMR radios to communicate whilst placing our joint cache and they made the job a whole lot easier. The only other time we have used them while caching was to occupy the junior members of the Krazy Kats whilst we got on with the serious business of finding Quantum Leap On a more serious note they are handy for letting the kids wander off a little way whilst out in the countryside. 17. All that and more chaps..100 caches and managing to broker the HCC event as well in your spare time. Well done I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!

  19. quote:Originally posted by tony69:Hi again mapsource 4.13 is not for the UK This patch is only applicable for all versions of the MapSource United States TOPO product. It will not affect any other MapSource product. any more ideas Richard Mapsource 4.13 is not country specific. Mapsource is simply the program, it is not important which mapset is used with it. Once Mapsource is on your computer then you could put all the various products in it. Whether it is a US or UK map. I myself have both Roads and Rec UK and Metro loaded and am using it with 4.13 no problems at all. Most of the fixes that 4.13 address could well be to do with US mapping, that is understandable as Garmin is a US company. I just went on the website and I see the patch that you are referring to, which is the wrong one. The update you need can be downloaded HERE Good luck Chris I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house! 20. You might start to troubleshoot the problem by checking in the data area on your Garmin and make sure it is set to garmin and not to NMEA. (I had this problem with my map 176.) Also it is worth going onto Garmin's website and downloading the lastest update. If you open mapsource and click on Help then on About Mapsource, you need version 4.13. Hope that helps you. Jstead, the solution I found to slow transfer of maps up to the GPSr was to get a datacard programmer. (Of course it occurs to me that you might not use datacards in the Vista, in which case that does not help) If you do have a card, the difference I found was that without the programmer, 2hours for 64meg with the programmer 5 minutes! 21. I was going to do something similar and got hold of a container that is used to hold emergency flares on a boat. Totally waterproof and large enough to hold lots of goodies. Even a hole in the top to tie a cord through. It would need weighing down but that is a minor detail. 22. I saw this advertised and thought that it looked like a bargain price. £185 for a Magellan Meridian Platinum Here I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!

  24. Well done old mally I had the pleasure of doing Quantum leap with him, chosen specially for the Century in the company of Krazy Kats. It was a fun day out and I nearly had to break his arm to buy him a pint afterwards. (If you believe that etc) If I spend much more time with the bloke I may even run the risk of doing 100. Well if we hang out togeather till I reach old age I might Well done Neil I woke this morning and my boat was not rocking...for one horrid moment I thought I lived in a house!

Not that it matters now, another person less to the sport caused by snipers. I do feel however that the initial post on the commercial cache thread was done with prior knowledge and intended to stir up the pot a bit. Problem is, as usual we bit and retaliated instead of ignoring it to the bottom of the page. (I gave the first reply!)
