    GPS HELP

quote:One more thing...How you going to get to these caches once you get a GPS? Are there enough within biking distance? To be quite honest, this is how I found my first one. I had been riding past it for a year without knowing it was there. It is in a wooded area adjacent to a Bike Path in my area. there are a few more I'll be finding while I'm out on my bike this summer. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.

    GPS HELP

Interesting how this thread pops up after this one: GPS Fund I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  3. Getting a GPSr would be a good start, However, It is not mandatory if you know any Land Navigation techniques (Map and Compass stuff). You don't have to go overboard on a GPSr (getting the top of the line unit) from the start. Reading through the forums will give you an idea of the units people are using, I myself use a Magellan MAP330 because I got a good deal on it from an online catalog place and I like the onscreen map feature. Really read the cache page carefully before you go out, noting the Cache title for starters, what size container you are looking for, any and all clues, and also the logs posted by others may contain valuable information. Keep asking yourself "Where would I hide it?" and take a copy of the page with you while you are looking. It wouldn't hurt to take a topographical style map with you to. there is usually a link to "TopoZone" on the page. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.

  5. I just started into Letterboxing. My first was a mystery box where I recognized the clue and went for it. An avid letterboxer has placed about 20 or so around my area. I find it a challenge to follow the clues while keeping track with my GPS. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  6. Take a look at this page, it might help you a little. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=54531 You must save the start position as a waypoint. then as you go to each waypoint in sequence, you will end up crossing 2 lines of your "bread crumb" trail which will indicate the final cache position. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  7. I chose both because of GC9A8F "Letterboxing North America II by Flyfisher" You have to find the letterbox first to get the coordinates of the geocache. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  8. U.S. Army- B-Battery 333rd field artillery target acquisition, D-Battery 26th field artillery target acquisition 1978-1982 I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  9. They will be listed in with all the other caches in your area if you have anyone posting a "members only" cache. The ones I see have a small green "Members only" below the title. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  10. http://www.napolex.com/main/catalog/landscape.html I like the CF73 model I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.

  12. geocaching@clevelandmetroparks.com this is an Ohio based MetroParks that actually places their own caches to get people out using their land. You might also: a) print out a cache description and show it to the people in charge of the park. get them involved as to where you would want to place the cache, and solicit their recommendations for other places hide caches. c) give them the link to this website www.geocaching.com and have them check it out. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  13. has a drop down menu that allows me to "download from GPS". I would assume that other programs that can upload waypoints should be able to download waypoints too. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  14. quote:Could someone let me know when the required wait time has elapsed?? it should be less than 2 minutes to process the paperwork. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.

  16. Geocaching home page. From there you should be able to enter in a zipcode of a town near there, or enter in coordinates of a point you might know on the trail and see what is within range. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  17. and had a great time. We did the Yellow course again which basically used the park trails for the course and is one step up from White which is for beginners. Only when we got near a marker did we have to leave the trail system. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  18. is a graphic training aid used by the military which has both degrees and mils and is used in map reading. It is made of clear plastic and is square. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  19. didn't see a need for decimal degrees in a bearing when they wrote the software for the GPSr. My Magellan is the same as yours with only Whole number degrees. If you can actually shift over to mils, I'd say go for it since the accuracy would be a whole lot better. I've got a military compass that is in mils from dealing with Artillery. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  20. There are others who send people to various places to find information listed at that point to be used in calculating the final cache co-ordinates. See GC2741 as an example. If its not what you want, atleast I tried. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  21. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=54531 We didn't finish the course, but had a blast anyway. Also check out http://www.ocin.org is where you can get the results of the meet. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  22. There are some people who seem to have more fun hiding caches than seeking them. If you check some stats you might see "Hidden 115/Found 12" As long as "the guidelines are met" for placing the cache, Go for it! I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  23. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=54531 to get the 4th marker you had to accurately plot the points on the map and draw straight lines from point to point in sequence and where they crossed was the 4th point which gave you more instructions to get the rest. We ran out of time, but it was still Lots of fun. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  24. This individual has many examples of "Urban Style" caches for you to draw inspiration from. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
