  1. No, the III+ doesn't do turn by turn. Only the V and the SPIII will do that trick. The latest version of Metroguide will route turn by turn, but you wouldn't be able to use that on the III+. Not enough memory. "Never take a sunset for granted. Stop what you are doing and enjoy it. You never know when it may be your last"
  2. Have any idea if clear lake, by the golf course ever freezes? I'm thinking about bringing my wife and our pontoon boats up there to fish in Feb. on a warm day. "Never take a sunset for granted. Stop what you are doing and enjoy it. You never know when it may be your last"
  3. Well, if you outline an area with your GPS on, say walking or driving around a piece of property, it will tell you how many acres in contained in the area outlined. "Never take a sunset for granted. Stop what you are doing and enjoy it. You never know when it may be your last"
  4. Sorry, don't have anything on this radio at all. All we carry is Marine band, FRS/GMRS. I thought you were enquiring about CB in general. If you know about CB's then that means you are in the over 40 group huh? "Never take a sunset for granted. Stop what you are doing and enjoy it. You never know when it may be your last"
  5. Well, the big problem with the CB band (26.965 to 27.405 MHz) is that they operate on the AM side. This means a lot of static and interference. They are a lot more succeptable to atmospheric conditions that "bounce" signals all over the continent. Sometimes you can't raise your buddy 2 miles in front of you, but you will be talking to someone 2500 miles away like they are next door. This is called "skip". The radios are typically a lot bigger and heavier than their FM walkie-talkie counterparts. Pretty much nowadays, the only group using CB's to any degree are the long-haul truckers. 6. I don't think they were a fluke. I pulled two different units out of our store stock to test.(as I do with all new radio models we receive for retail sale) I tested a 110 and a 120. The radio performance was the same on both (I wouldn't expect it to be different between them, though)I don't mean to imply they are unusable. Just unsatisfactory. The quality of the sound was way sub-par for most 1/2 watt FRS radios and 1 watt GMRS radios. I am comparing them primarily to Motorola and Cobra radios, as I have the most experience with them (I own six of my own). This whole concept is a great idea, but I wish they had contracted with Motorola(and if we find out Motorola *did* build the radios, they should be embarassed) to build the radio part of the unit. I was eager to purchase a pair of these units ever since I read about the concept. Even through all the delays (which was really hard, being as I both sold and wanted them)I eagerly waited. When they finally showed up and I took a pair of the 110's for a week, I was really disappointed. I figured like you, it must be a fluke. When the 120's showed up, I tested them next. That was the final nail for me. I still am a total Garmin fan. I just won't be buying these particular models until something changes. I won't give up on them, though. I will keep testing them against my Motorolas and Cobras every once in a while. I'm not saying don't buy them, I'm just saying don't expect too much out of the radios. 7. quote: So I don't expect their range to be any worse than competing radios. I sell, own, and field test both Cobra, Motorola and in the past, other brands of FRS/GMRS for the past 4 years. Trust me......the RINOs not only won't go the distance, but sound worse trying to. "Never take a sunset for granted. Stop what you are doing and enjoy it. You never know when it may be your last"
  8. quote: The radio is a low power short range unit operating in the Family Radio Service (FRS) and the range will be less than a mile in most cases unless GMRS repeater services are used. Yeah....I would say so! Like just over 1/2 mile. Then, just barely over one mile using GMRS. "Never take a sunset for granted. Stop what you are doing and enjoy it. You never know when it may be your last"
  9. The Rino's send their position data out only on the FRS band, and only when you press the "press to talk" button or the "call" button. Update interval is limited by the FCC to not any more than every 10 seconds. (go figure) "Never take a sunset for granted. Stop what you are doing and enjoy it. You never know when it may be your last"
  10. By time you buy the Vista, add a dash mount for your car, a 12v. adaptr cord, and some software to go in it, you might as well of bought the V! It comes with all that. "Never take a sunset for granted. Stop what you are doing and enjoy it. You never know when it may be your last"
  11. BrownMule...I work at a large sporting goods store and we received about 25 or so of them. So I "borrowed" a couple to test them. niskibum....I concur.....If you were about to buy a Legend and didn't already have a pair of radios, then the Rino's would be a no-brainer for the extra $50 or so. However, the same $50 will get you a good quality FRS radio and you can still radio your coordinates to your buddy and he can input them in about 60 seconds. Doesn't have the "cool" factor built in like the Rino does, but it works just as well (even better). personally, I would rather have a seperate GPS and radio anyways.....When one goes South, I don't lose them both while they're in the shop. "Never take a sunset for granted. Stop what you are doing and enjoy it. You never know when it may be your last"
  12. I brought a pair of these home from the store last night for a bit of a "field test". The radios sucked as bad as the 110's did in a previous test I did. I would expect them to however. I don't imagine they changed them at all between models. These radios are among the worst I've tested for sound quality and transmit distance, even in GRMS(1watt) mode. The audio sounds very hollow and scratchy, with heavy crackle at only moderate (.7 mile) distance. That the FCC wouldn't allow the peer-to-peer positioning on the GMRS freqs. is a big disappointment. I'm not sure that this radio will offer enough range in the FRS band to really make the cost worth the investment in a pair of these(and if your not using them in a pair...why have them at all?) 13. Please study this previous thread before you go out and buy yourselves a color Meridian.....Meridian Color "Never take a sunset for granted. Stop what you are doing and enjoy it. You never know when it may be your last"
  14. Sorry....City Select won't work with the legend. Only the V. "Never take a sunset for granted. Stop what you are doing and enjoy it. You never know when it may be your last"
  15. I am one of those sales people, howevwer; I also teach GPS navigation. I use and sell just about every consumer model made and have taught most of them. E-mail me & I will be glad to help you out.Alphawolf@Networld.com "Never take a sunset for granted. Stop what you are doing and enjoy it. You never know when it may be your last"
  16. On a scale of I to V, it would be my V! Every time! "Never take a sunset for granted. Stop what you are doing and enjoy it. You never know when it may be your last"
  17. Search out and read the previous threads about the color before you go out and buy one. Unless you had something wrong with your previous unit, there is no way you'll be getting the upper hand buy swapping a V for a color Meridian! What sorts of problems were you having? I have owned my V for over a year now, and wouldn't trade it for any receiver out there! (and I sell them all) "Never take a sunset for granted. Stop what you are doing and enjoy it. You never know when it may be your last"

  19. Just a quick info. update....More to follow. I "borrowed" a couple of RINO 110's this week from the store where I sell them. I took them to San Diego for a serious "field test". The radios suck! Among the worst radios I have ever used. I own 6 different FRS and GMRS radios, and sell lots of them. I have field tested many models of radios and these were bad! Way bad! Now, I have to figure out if something is wrong with one(or both) of the units I took with me. As an example, my daughter and I were trying to communicate over the FRS band with these units and I couldn't even understand her. I assumed she might be to far away (we were in Sea World) and was about to give up. I looked around and saw her and we were only about 50 yards apart! This was not an isolated event either! Anyway, more to follow.....stay tuned. (no I don't have any bones to pick with Garmin. I own and have owned nothing but Garmin....I Love my V!) "Never take a sunset for granted. Stop what you are doing and enjoy it. You never know when it may be your last"
  20. quote:How can I upgrade the map data? This is a very common and fair question......I sell GPSR's and software, and I hear this asked frequently. It needs to be made very clear: You cannot "download" increased map data for Garmin software. The downloads they offer are only to upgrade the software "engine" that runs it all. They "tweak" the software, usually making it better (not always) and offering user functions and features that enhance using the software. The ugrades are usually directed at the Human/software interface and to correct inherent "bugs" that users find and report back to Garmin(That's why it is important to report these bugs as you find them). The map detail stays the same as when you purchased it. You won't see ehanced detail of the maps until they release and you purchase an entirely new version of the software. Hope this helps. 21. Color is still useless on a GPS receiver! "Never take a sunset for granted. Stop what you are doing and enjoy it. You never know when it may be your last"
  22. I have these 2 units for sale. They will be sold seperate. They are both units that were on display at a large sporting goods store and were never used outside of the store until I bought them at an employee clearance sale (I work there) I used them only to make sure nothing was wrong with them and now I am selling them. I will offer them up for bid, with the units going to the highest offer on Nov. 15th. (I will be out of town from Nov. 4th until the 11th.) On Nov. 16th, I will notify the highest bidder and arrange for payment and shipping. These units are both sold "as is" with no warranty, expressed or implied. I will make available e-mail pictures of both units and their accessories if requested. The purchaser will be responsible for shipping and insurance(if you request it) costs. I will accept payment by PayPal, or certified money order or cashier's check. Now....Here's a bit about them: The StreePilot comes with an 8 meg. card, the 12 v. power adapter, the p.c. interface cable, the dash mount, the owners manual and quickstart guide, but NO BOX. This unit is in nearly perfect condition with no screen or chassis scratches, dings or dents. Maybe just a little counter dust. The Eagle comes with the Eagle cordura cammo. carrying pouch, a 12 V. car adapter, a wrist laynard and an owners manual. The screen is almost new looking with only a couple of minor scratches off to the side, not in the field of view at all. You have to look hard to see them. The case is nearly perfect, no scratches or dings or dents. The only defect is that it looks like someone might have wiped it clean with an alcohol swab or something 'cause the letters that say "GlobalNav 12" are ever so slightly smudged. Like the paint was wiped lightly with a solvent of some sort. Only very slight smudging. If you would like further details or pictures, or would like to offer a bid, contact me at " Alphawolf@Networld.com" Remember, I will be out of town from Nov. 4-11 and will not have access to my e-mail. I would just do this on E-bay, but I hate building auctions! "Never take a sunset for granted. Stop what you are doing and enjoy it. You never know when it may be your last"
  23. Wait just a bit for the 72. It will have a better time with reception than does the E-Trex family. Waterproof and floats. User frendly. Doesn't do mapping, but probably not much of a hinderance. For hunting, the only maps you would really be interested in are the Topo. I have used them extensively out West here, and I am not all that impressed, considering you will have have paid nearly $200 extra for the privlidge of seeing 2.5 X 3 inch topos in your hand. I much prefer carrying real 7.5 min. quads and using them with my GPS for map positioning. The extra $200 will buy a lot of paper maps and accessories for your 72 (and a good compass! Never go into the back woods without a real compass along with your new GPS!) "Never take a sunset for granted. Stop what you are doing and enjoy it. You never know when it may be your last"
  24. quote: I can only download three MapSource sheets in at a time I'm not sure what you mean by "sheets". I live in Utah and can load 7 of the Metroguide maps before I max out the Legend. This is the top 1/3 of the state approx. In Topo, I can get about 35 maps, that is still about the top 1/3 of the state. Even in crowded Los Angeles, CA, I can get 4 of the Metroguide series on 8 megs. of memory. If you are using MapSouce 4.09, make sure you have checked the box under the "transfer" tab under "preferences" under "edit" so as to turn off the autorouting support. This takes a whole bunch more memory. "Never take a sunset for granted. Stop what you are doing and enjoy it. You never know when it may be your last"
