  1. Believe it or not garlic is how I keep them away. As a kid growing up I was always eaten up by tick and chiggers/no see ums. I was a Boy Scout Master for 18 years so I managed to get my fair share of them then also. I started taking a 500 mg of oderless garlic pill every night before bed and now the ticks and chiggers do not bother me. The first year I started taking them before summer camp was so nice. My wife gets them when we are out caching but I don't. They still get on me but are gone within 24 hours, they will start to itch the next day after being out in the field and the second day they are gone. FWIW but it works for me.
  2. 2002 Linciln LS which means I walk a lot more than many of you. I will not even drive over a muddy road (don't know what is under that mud) much less off road. If the cache page says anything about rough road I start looking for a place to park and walk in. I could choose my F350 dually powerstroke but it is not good off road either all that means is that I have 4 tires spinning and digging in instead of 2 and less weight per tire.
  3. Well I was just told I am a type 2 and so far I have brought it under control with diet and excersice (geo caching is one form) and I have been thinking about using the container for a cache. I am not going to do the walk but I am going to do a bike ride in the fall I figure that is a way to get more excersice if I walk I do not have to do more training but to ride the bike I need to train I have not riden a bike in many years try decades other than around the campsite or block.
  4. Well I went to Sports Authority and bought a $10 fishing shirt that has several pockets and is a cool materal that dries fast but I also carry a camelbak for things not needed at most caches like ziplocks, camo tape and other things for repair as well as my raincoat and off course 100 oz of water. In the shirt I carry my Palm, GPS, Sig coins and spare battries as well as other things that swap in and out as I see fit like camera and mardi gras beads, it is also vented in the back. I had a photographer's vest but decided it was too hot even though it was made out of a net matterial.
  5. <<A micro in the woods gets a little different response from me. Five minutes and then the Ignore List.>> I agree I HATE micros in the woods just too many places it could be hid high and low and too easy to over look in all the grass and leaves ect. I will look for about 15-20 minutes for a micro in the woods and move on. I bet most of my DNF were micros in the woods so they are to the point they don't bother me any more. I have looked at going some place that may have several caches in them and I look at the caches and if there are more DNFs on them than finds I will look for some other place to go. I go caching to get me out into the outdoors and that makes my doctor happy that is why I don't have very many P&G so I don't care if I get a DNF or not. I had a lot more DNFs when I started then I changed my name and lost many of them.
  6. I agree I will touch almost any thing as long as I can see it I don't however like to reach up somewhere that I can't see like a hole in some rocks where God only knows what 4, 6, 8 up to 1000 legs not counting things without legs are up there other than the cache which might not even be there. I have walked away from a cache that might have been up a hole without looking for it. Here in Texas there are too many criters that don't like you invading their home. If I can see the criters they don't bother me it is just the ones I can't see that bother me.
  7. I read all cache pages usually before I leave the house to determine which caches to go for. Like last week I went to San Antonio and before leaving I decided to go to a park because of the cache page GC2B73 . It told me this was the second oldest park in the U.S. and the park had 4 other caches in it. I went to the park with my wife on Saturday and went back on Sunday with my mother, wife and daughter and had a picnic becasue we were so impressed with the park. I finished the last 3 caches by myself on Sunday. I use a paperless system and the first thing I do when we get close is read the description to see if there is anything I should look at beside the cache. Many times while I am reading it my wife will find the cache. I don't look at hints or past logs until we have looked for at least 10 minutes. So I like the cache page and read them but I am not it this for just numbers but to get me out in nature and excercise which makes my Doctor happy.
  8. Thanks for all the good input, I will forgo leaving it, I had not thought of the heat factor. I just thought they would be good items that people would want especially with all the posion ivy around this year. I will continue to look for something better to leave other than my sig Tuit and mardi gras beads and not liquid.
  9. I am thinking about getting some Purell Hand Sanitizer 1/2 oz bottles to put in caches as swag. What do you guys and gals think would a new sealed bottle draw critters of any kind?
  10. I hate to tell you they are the exact same overheads as Google Earth the same car is driving by the interscetion at my house in both. The are also very old as I have several trees planted 15-20 years ago that are all taller than my house one is real small and the two pecan trees are not even in the photo.
