  1. Hi Travsl, you may already be aware of this, but just in case, I thought I'd let you know about some caches on your route which have been either archived or are unavailable. They are: NW Blvd Overlook by Headnut (Waypoint GCGJAT) Greenthumb Challenge by Greenthumb (Waypoint GCE3C6) Fill the Box by Fuzzybear (Waypoint GCC4C2) Parkwater Neighborhood Park by Headnut (Waypoint GCGMX0) Another hint, if you follow the route for Ben Bur Trail (GCC4C6) via Lacey Street it takes you into private property. We found a road on the backside of the hill, but its a dead end street and no real place to park. A homeowner came out to see why we were parked in front of his house (although parked legally on the street). I can't imagine his reaction when 15-20 cars pull up and park. Just thought you should know. (Follow up: If you use the parking coordinates given on the cache page you should be all right, however its a 0.70 mile walk, which will take longer than the planned 5 minutes at the cache location). Also if you'd like to add a nice easy one, we found The Children Are Watching (GCD425) last weekend. It was a quick stop and its along your route. Looking forward to seeing how everyone does. Good Luck. The Navigatorz [This message was edited by The Navigatorz on September 17, 2003 at 06:15 PM.] [This message was edited by The Navigatorz on September 17, 2003 at 06:21 PM.]
  2. I have a great idea. Let's just have a leaderboard of DNFs (Did Not Finds). This would keep everyone honest and report it when they do not find a cache. This would be good for both the hunter and the hider. The hunter can then know his lack of find is not in vain, because his score would go up on the leaderboard. And for the hider, he can glory in the fact that his cache was hidden so well that many did not find it. But wait, then the cheaters will just sit at home and log a bunch of DNFs because they didn't go out and look for the caches. You just can't win for losing!!! Whose idea was that anyway? As Confucious said: A book is like a geocacher. Just as you can't judge a book by its cover, neither can you judge a geocacher by his stats.
  3. We get email notifications when caches on our Watch List get found, we get emails when Travel Bugs get picked up or move, we get email notifications of new cache hidden in our area, and we get emails when someone finds our caches. How about this? Emails when cachers we select (like friends or family) find a cache. Seems like that would be just as easy to set up. Presently, you have to click on Hide and Seek, then enter the name of the geocacher in the box "Search for caches by Username". This is cumbersome if you have several you are looking for. I think it would help build community of the sport.
  4. If there is a stats page or leaderboard, I would suggest giving hides the same credit as a find, in other words add hides+finds together for the total count (like Dan Miller's site did). If others can get credit for their totals by finding your cache, then you should also get a credit for hiding it. Otherwise, why hide caches if no credit given? Then if no one hides caches, eventually no one will be finding new caches, then the sport is no longer.
  5. How about totals like Dan Miller's site had (It totaled all finds plus hides). [This message was edited by The Navigatorz on August 19, 2003 at 07:42 PM.]
  6. It appears the only way now to find someone's profile is to do a search under the Hide and Seek tab for caches found by Username. Then when you get there, you click to open up one of the caches they have found, then scroll down through the logs to find that person's log, then click on the profile link near their name. Kind of tedious sometimes. It would be nice if there was an easier way to search for profiles. Perhaps add a search box on the Hide and Seek page where you could enter a username and it would take you straight to their profile. Also if you want to search for other profiles, there could be a search box on everyones profile page that says "Search for another profile?" Then you just enter a new username and click Go. Just a thought.
  7. I have a new PDA and thought I'd check out the Pocket Queries, but can't find a link. How do you do them? I joined as a Premium Member so I could do them.
  8. I couldn't find it either.
  9. When searching for caches in your zip code area within a specified radius, you get a listing of all of the caches. It would be nice if you had the option of querying only new caches in your area within a time period of your choosing, say options like within the last 24 hours, within the last 3 days, within the last week, etc. As it is now, you get a listing of all the caches in your zip code (or any zip code you choose) and it includes all caches old and new, one's you already found, and one's you hid. Then you have to scroll down through the pages to find the new ones. Hope this isn't an old topic already hashed over and over.
  10. Personally, I like finding caches myself and will probably never do a cache machine, unless the rules change somewhat. When someone asks me how many caches have I found, I can honestly say 300 (or whatever the number is at the time). I don't have to say, I logged 300 and of that, I found 200 and the remaining 100 I just signed the log after someone else found it for me. The biggest and most rewarding part of geocaching, in my opinion, is hunting and finding the cache. Much more satisfying than walking up to an already found cache and just signing a logbook. I would only consider doing a cache machine event if everyone were divided into small groups (say of 2-3 teams). If one of the rewards of the cache machines are meeting other geocachers, then have a mid-day barbecue where everyone meets at one location for some fun discussions about the days hunt. I read about how many caches were found during a cache machine event (37 or 68), but how many did each individual find? (5 or 6)? Can someone honestly say they found 68?
  11. I see some people putting pictures or borders on their locationless cache websites. I understand this takes HTML, which I am not familiar with. Can someone send me html language for doing this?
