Here's their response to my email:
Thank you for contacting Garmin Product Support.
I am happy to help you with this.
I recommend , verifying the map-setup is set to "lock on road". I also
suggest we auto -locate the device. From the satellite page, press the
menu
button , select new location and automatic. The unit then needs to be
outside in open sky view 20 min un-interrupted.
Beyond that it depends on acquisition ? It matters if you are
matching
someone's predetermined lat/long , is it set the same as their position
format?
It may then prove best to call support if it is still a problem.
If you have any additional comments or questions, please do not
hesitate to
contact us via email or at the number listed below.
Please include all previous e-mail correspondence.
Sincerely,
xxxxxxxxx

I spoke with Customer Service who said to send it back to Garmin. Has anyone else sent theirs back to Garmin? Any results? I was hoping that the fix would be a firmware upgrade so that I don't have to do this.

Tried with and without the SD map card. It didn't affect the accuracy of the unit. Seems like everything is offset to the east though by 50-60 feet.

Thanks for the info. Will retest.

If you are going to do such a test, make sure the benchmark is adjusted, not scaled.Instead of geocaches, I tried locating a geodetic survey marker. My Venture CX put me about 60 feet away from the target. This is way worse than the specified 10-16 feet accuracy.
I have a print out of the NGS Data Sheet. The coordinates are scaled! What does that mean???

I think Garmin will have to do something, because the product is not performing as advertised.

No problem with my Venture CX. The Venture CX is pretty much equal to the Legend CX, without some of the accessories. With the $50 rebate, it comes out to about $150.

Tell me that I am wrong, but it seems that whenever one wants to add a single map segment, you have to reload the entire mapset again, including that new segment. Seems time-consuming and inefficient to me.

After the upgrade, the Venture CX is a lot more accurate than before. Glad I didn't send it in for service.
