  1. It's not so much your question, it has more to with the way in which it was asked
  2. If you think there is a problem it would be kinder to contact the setter in the first instance and take it from there. You can contact a Reviewer in the same way as you would contact any other member, go to their profile and send a message. Simples. And I don't see the need to qualify why you need to contact a reviewer - it would have been sufficient to say - how do I contact a Reviewer.
  3. Really And after three years membership you need to ask this question - in a public forum
  4. In the UK we are not only charged VAT on goods that exceed a certain value (I think the amount is somewhere in the region of £18 - even if marked as a gift) this includes shipping fees - so if your stated value is below that, but exceeds that amount when the postage is added the recipient not only gets taxed on the whole amount but the post office add another £8 handling charge on top, so the tax may not be that much, but add the £8 handling charge and the time delay it causes for delivery and you could end up with a very unhappy customer. I once purchased four coins, I'm talking a few years ago - they ended up costing me approximately $20 per coin - and that was when we were getting a much better exchange rate. Of course rules and regulations vary - so what Bhob says is the best advice.
  5. When in Florida there were a great many caches where one had to pay an entrance fee in order to hunt for the cache, which came as a surprise to me I must say. All parks there appeared to be privately or state owned, most of the parks I visited required an entrance fee, I think it just needs to be stated on the cache page that this is case. But then again the goal posts keep moving in this game so I would ask a reviewer. If it isn't allowed and you think it a really cool place then try and get permission to place one close to the attraction - it means then that visiting the attraction is optional but you have done your best to bring it to peoples attention. You can always lead a horse to water etc..................
  6. The reality is there isn't anything you can do, you asked politely, twice, you've had a refusal to co-operate with your wishes, short of booking a holiday to Brazil to retrieve it yourself I fail to see what else you can do other than wait. On a positive note, I imagine the cache will be found eventually and just imagine the thrill of seeing it move on again, I've had that experience myself although sadly it was short lived as the coin moved to Australia and promptly died in a bush fire. At least your coin is safe and you know where it is.
  7. Go to the search page, and search on your postcode, this will produce a list of 500 caches, so go to the last page in the search and look at the distance for the last cache on that page (number 500). Hmm! I tried that but ended up with over 27000 caches, and what's more - they were all in Germany. Don't think I'll bother again. Mmmm colour me confused. Entering my postcode returns 3446 caches listed on 173 pages. If I select nearest caches from my home co-ordinates I get 863 records on 44 pages, if I filter out finds I get 781 caches listed on 40 pages. There are 20 caches listed per page, so I calculate (math not being my strong point) that the last cache listed on page 25 is the 500 cache - which happens to be 40.6 miles away, although in this terrain (central Highlands) that could mean a return journey of 200 miles or more.
  8. I had the same problem last year when I went to Tuscany. Fortuntely one of the local cache setters spoke excellent English and usually provided text in both Italian and English. If you can't find any cache pages that contain English, I would go for traditional caches, if you think you will definitely need a clue, decrypt and try copying and pasting the text into a translator - of course you could end up with a garbled mess that is of no help at all Puzzle caches I think would be a none starter, but if you put in the co-ordinates for some caches and go a hunting they are sure to take you on an adventure, just don't don't worry about the numbers and have a wonderful holiday.
  9. A clue - my definition - sumat wot elps me to find the arnser !
  10. 1. What else can you get for £15 as an annual subscription ? 2. Try using a postcode instead of a town 3. It's not just Groundspeak servers that could be causing the delay, your search results pass through many servers on its way back to your computer (which in itself might need a bit of housekeeping) 4. If a cacher has not followed proper procedures then in all probability a reviewer/mod will, and is entitled to, point out the error of their ways - I see nothing unprofessional about that I happen to have found the server to be lightening quick this evening, I have just upgraded to IE8 which might have some bearing on that. I hope you have a better day tomorrow.
  11. Listings are all online. You may find a notebook and pen more economical.
  12. Loch Garten near Aviemore in the Scottish Highlands has a nesting pair again, 'EJ' - a Female arrived back on the 25th March, she came back on the very same day last year. On the 3rd of April she was joined by an unringed Male who has been named 'Odin'.
  13. Don't be too mad about not getting any replies from emails - if, that is, you are contacting them through their profile - it is notoriously unreliable. Groundspeak blamed my isp when I raised this with them, but that is twaddle (according to my isp), unless you have an independant contact email you will be lucky to get a reply if they sent one, if they ever received yours. As for Ammo cans being stolen, or any cache for that matter, unfortunately the more publicity that is given to geocaching the more this kind of thing is going to happen, in the long run Earth Caches are more work to put together - but at least they can't be stolen !
  14. Earthcaches and Virtual Caches do not apply to the new changes. Thanks Buddaman for the clarification, I went back and took another deckie at the guidelines and amended my post accordingly. I can understand and see why it is requested, I just don't see why it should be a logging requirement, although I would much prefer that people posted photographs for all caches - but that's just a personal preference Edit to add: I have to admit that I quite often forget to take my camera with me, and even when I do I don't always get it out, and even when I manage to do that and take pics - I don't always upload my photos
  15. It's my understanding that these additional logging requirements are no longer applicable, or did I read the wrong end of the recent changes to the cache listing guidelines ? Edit to add: Yep, I think I read it wrong - although earthcache.org merely state "Also, photographs of visits are strongly encouraged and the number of people who were in the group." (my emphasis), it doesn't state that photographs are required. But from the Earth Caches that I have done it would certainly not be possible to do them from an armchair and I would have thought that any such caches where it might feasibly be possible to do so could be weeded out at the approval stage.
  16. You could almost google it ...................
  17. They say there is no such thing as a free lunch, but there is, although sometimes it's not lunch......... Can you name the cache that is circled?
  18. South West Corner of an Old Old Wall GC19CFV in Jerusalem
  19. Ooops I missed that. sorry. Well I am still none the wiser - have never heard of it. However, I have been to this place, although there wasn't a cache there then, it would take a right royal penny or two to get back there to find this one !
