  1. I just had a couple from RS log my cache. I will email them to see if they can help, they are taking 3 of mine to the east next week. It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  2. I guess i have been lucky, all that i have found (not that many yet) have all been awesome. Of course, it is hard to find a bad spot around here. It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  3. In one of the threads, it asks about using the bike mount for the etrex. I use my vista on my V65 and my 4 wheelers. never have had any trouble with the exception of loose battery springs on my basic etrex, a little tweak and no more problems. BIG hint, when you get pulled over, don't go the gps max speed when the officer asks how fast you were going, he will take your GPS reading just fine and ticket you according to the xxx.x MPH! 4. I love my Vista. Alot of features, small, and a great unit. I would definately buy another one. It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  5. I would tweak the terminal connections to make them tighter, and then place a thin peice of foam between the batt and the cover to hold it solid. A band aid around the batt should do with the pad to the outside, see if that helps. It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  6. i had the same trouble, going from a connection that worked with a vista to the legend. I had the legend try to upload waypoints to the computer and it worked, and has since. Also, i did not have the cable hooked all the way a couple of times and it didnt work then. It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  7. The blood thing may get some upset, not me, but some. You can also try to do it in a funny way, such as the way South Park did the halloween show a couple of years ago. They used spooky vision, all scenes had pics of Barbara Streisand's mug shot in it, was sort of sunny. You could put a monsters hand over it with a whats he got thing on it or something similar. This could also keep any of the really sensitive police over achievers from investigating your cache as a crime scene! They already have alot to do without being led astray (I do really like and appriciate police) It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  8. I had a local reporter for the paper asking me about geocaching. At the end of the conversation, he stated that he didnt feel that anyone should be doing this and that he will not allow any mention of if in the paper as he feels that it is an open target for terrorists to put a bomb or anthrax etc. in. Way overboard on the paranoinia! It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  9. I have seen several users sites that have a live web cam broadcasting. I want to do this, but have no idea how to. Any help would be great! It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.

  11. I have a Vista and love it. I also purchased a window mount, 12v cable and Roads and Rec (wish I woulda went metroguide) and with the rebate and sale prices on all, I have about $375 in the whole set up. I love it. The largest glaring difference is auto routing. The vista does address lookup, but no auto routing. I have also had a legend, and still have a yellow. The vista is a pretty good upgrade from the legend, and I got the vista over the V because of the size as well as price. Still love the vista!! 12. I have the Vista and love the compass. I am not sure about the process for the Mag, but if you don't calibrate the compass(after you make sure it is activated), bad things happen fast. You need to re calibrate anytime the batteries are removed. Good thing it is very simple to do, or could be a big pain! Hope this helps! 13. I have had similar things happen with other hardware. Go into the control panel on windows and refresh the port, worked for my dig film reader. It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  14. Yellow, Legend and Vista!!! It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  15. i defend my choices of legend or vista for the following for geocaching: maps to get there, saves lots of time, has all the basic features, and the vista's ele compass is AWESOME for caching as it points to the destination all the time, even stopped. Then when you go to other uses, it handles almost all of them. I still feel that the legend or vista are some of the best for caching, but others are great too! 16. You can get the manual downloaded from www.garmin.com for free. I like the printed version of this better than the original. I see cabels go for 15 to 20 on ebay all the time, just type in etrex gps in the search. I picked up a 12v power/data cable for 18! 17. I had similar trouble, but then I changed the battery type selector to the correct type and no more trouble. It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.

  19. Probably the most important use for the cable on the basic is updating the software. It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  20. I dont think that what I want is appropriate for this forum, safe to say it involves measurements in inches and lots of D's, and would definately be a distraction to finding the cache, adds at least 3 points to dificulty and pain level if you fall face first. and then if it goes too long ! It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  21. I have both of these. I would go Vista if you can, the posts are accurate, but there is a HUGE advantage to the vista have the electronic compass. You still have a pointer to the cache even if stopped (make sure you calibrate the compass!!!). There is also another great feature beyond the memory in the Vista. If you have metroguide, you can enter an address on the Vista and, as long as you have the map downloaded, it will show you where it is. You still have to make the route, so not as handy as auto routing, but still really cool. I have the beta software on both and it is nice to have the owner screen on start up as a very small insurance if you loose it. Both are great units, I use the vista in the car and the legend on the hunt! My 6 year old uses a yellow etrex, and loves it. 22. as for the new kicking one: NO, GARMIN IS THE BEST!! It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  23. Ok, i am still new to this also, and have hidden a cache. This may sound a little different, but please visit my cache page and let me know what you think. I tried to put different things in there that have a use, but not expensive. My 6 year old was as involved in making this cache as he is in finding the new ones to us. Well, I am not sure if this will work, but here is my cache:ACME It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  24. Been over 6 weeks and still waiting on my vista rebate. It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
  25. My Vista usually takes about 40 seconds to go through the start up and accquistion. It is VERY important to calibrate the compass as said before, and for caching, I have WAAS off all the time (doesnt work here anyway). I use the start up time to my advantage if it isn't on when we get there (I use a windshied mount and power cable in the car almost all the time). I turn on the unit first thing and set it on the hood of the car, not the top, so I can see if it i move the car, then while it is getting the signal, I make sure I am ready with my pack and what I want to take with me. Also, gives me time to go over the printouts one last time. I have never forgotten anything after this process, but would have if I had hit the parking spot and left immediately. I have easily found every cache i have sought so far. ( I do this with my basic and Legend also). It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.
