  1. Man, I am heavily leaning toward the 76csx...if only I would have know about it when they had the $100 rebate.
  2. Anytime. If you find a better one...let me know.
  3. This thread asks the same question: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=141928 I think if you are a new buyer at buy.com then the suggestion regarding those rebates and offers is the best combo I've seen. $50 Garmin mail-in. $30 off Buy.com electronics for credit card $15 off for first time customer Almost $100 off and you get free shipping.
  4. This thread has a loud buzz of "it's my cache, and I can do as I please"... Really...is it asking too much for those who don't like these types of caches to be able to quickly identify them so they can avoid them? I am all in agreement that the cache owner has a right to delete the log. I am all in agreement that they have the right to set requirements. I am simply trying to reach a solution that meets both needs...right now those that go DL cache data don't have a quick way to identify these types of cache's that may end up causing them grief because some cache owner has taken the game to a level of being a control freak rather than allowing someone to log a cache find and respect their type of enjoyment of the game.
  5. That's your opinion. Most replies I read that are on your side of the issue acknowledge it's an addition to what traditional cache's were when they game was invented. I am not going to bother responding to the entire barrage...I am simply saying it's a problem and cache owner's aren't any less responsible than the finders are. I just think there needs to be an easier way for people DLing cache information to quickly avoid these caches if they desire.
  6. I had the same question actually...mine would definitely involve geocaching needs. One repeated thing I've read in reviews regarding using the GPSMAP 60csx is that the warning signal for turns is kind of short. Maybe someone with one can confirm or contest that.
  7. Good reason to require a cashier's check as method of payment.
  8. Ok, so if I buy just the unit with no additional US Topo or Street mapping....what do I get for map? Anything at all? *edit* Ok, I see base map stuff....does that mean it doesn't have like restaurants and all that extra stuff? Maybe not street names?
  9. I don't disagree with that point I am simply saying, regardless of how good or bad the requirements seem, if there are "requirements" at all then by definition it's not a "traditional" cache based on my reading of the history of the game. Is it asking too much for people with these kind of caches to somehow mark them that way to avoid the let down for people that don't want to write haiku, do the limbo or spray paint their name on a bridge (ok, I made the last two up)? In essence, when placing a cache, be thoughtful to the cachers that may not want that kind of experience...just because you think something is creative and fun doesn't mean the cacher will think that. They found your cache and they simply choose not to participate any further...what's the point of raining on their parade? Maybe the site needs to better facilitate some mechanism to support this more efficiently since it seems to be an on-going issue. Again, I am relatively new, ok REAL new, so I am not advocating that my solution is 100% right. I am just think my solution seems to appease both parties if it's handled this way....cachers don't inadvertantly download a cache they don't want to do and cache owners don't attract unwanted cachers (apparently unwanted because they feel it warrants removing entries).
  10. Why spoil the cachers fun? If it isn't a traditional cache then what is so difficult about denoting such so people can avoid the pain?
  11. I have night vision and I'm a black belt in various martial arts...I don't carry either.
  12. It will be an add on for my family. We aren't outdoor junkies, but we are always going to the park, playing in the yard or going on walks. I take the kids on short motorcycle rides. I am a tech junky so I spend a lot of time on the computers. I am a developer / sys admin. by day and an internet junky by night (Fantasy Football, MMORPG, FPS, web design work, fix computers, break computers, network config...all that stuff). I have like 6 computers on a network right now...probably my all-time low. When I took a load to the dump I got questioned to make sure I wasn't dumping for a business...sadly, they were indeed all my old personal PC's (recycled as much as I could!). So when I can go outdoors AND be a tech junky....double score, imo.
  13. I want to know when I am geocaching across the state line if I have to be watchful when using my GPS in the vehicle, Mr. Forum Nazi. I'd tell your friend Scott to contact a lawyer. http://www.answerbag.com/q_view.php/7114
  14. Grats! Still waiting to make my decision on what way to go with my purchase...hehe, I should just get one.
  15. I think that's a pretty pathetic action myself. In my understanding it's not a rule that you have to follow the instructions verbatim. Yes, it's fun and it enhances the game....for some people. Technically the owner of the cache has rights in that regard, but imo it's poor form and detrimental to the overall spirit and original intent of the game. Imo, a "traditional cache" by definition is one without those types of requirements. If someone uses the traditional, conventional means to find your cache then you shouldn't be deleting the find when the cache is labeled as such.
  16. Haha! Good pun! Glad everything worked out for you...those situations are all but fun.
  17. Last I checked on that (which has been some time ago) radar detectors, meaning the units themselves, are only illegal a couple states. However, some are illegal when placed on the window due to similar laws I mentioned above in CA and MN regarding items on a windshield, but that is due to visibility and not radar detector laws. I used to drive all over so I did research on it...now I really don't speed much and I personally feel like detectors are kind of a waste because most of the time it's too late react (not always). At any rate...it doesn't seem like there are too many people from CA or MN that have seen this actually enforced. I just kept repeatedly seeing the disclaimers on a few sites when looking up prices and so my curiosity was peaked. Living this close to MN I know a few people from there and spoke to them and they had never heard of it being enforced ever.
  18. Didn't see it in the acronymn FAQ and didn't read through every reply, so I apologize if I've overlooked it, but what is FTF?
  19. I was trying to figure out if there was a listing of SiRF powered GPSr's as well....let me know if you find one. This thread may have some useful info. though...it did for me since I lean toward Garmin: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=141513
  20. I will be taking my bike out caching (still relatively new and waiting on my GPS to arrive). I don't really do the bike ralley thing. 2005 Suzuki Boulevard C50 - Nothing too fancy...mostly use for A to B and just have always enjoyed riding.
  21. I just talked to a guy the other day that hosted a cache on his farm land. It's in a very safe and nice spot to visit. Although, one cacher came an unexpected route and was introduced to the concept of an electric fence.
  22. Hey, don't worry...I thought it was geocrashing for the longest time too.
