  2. ...but nothing found in the five I bought. That's assuming of course I'd notice a bear just by shaking the box. I might actually open the things tonight if no-one finds it by then! Sam -- Seek and ye shall find (tupperware, ammo boxes, bears, free ISP CDs...)
  3. About 9:45 this morning, Ken Bruce said hello to all the geocachers who met up in Winchester at the weekend, and thanked Paul & Michael Blitz for organising it. I missed the name of the person who sent in the message to Radio 2, though! Anyone owning up? Sam -- Seek and ye shall find (tupperware, ammo boxes, bears, free ISP CDs...)
  4. A most enjoyable day, and really good to finally meet so many people and put faces to the names. Browsing through these forums will never quite be the same again. Here's to another similarly succesful event soon! Sam -- Seek and ye shall find (tupperware, ammo boxes, bears, free ISP CDs...)

  6. quote:Originally posted by jeremyp:Whenever I get a new Windows system, the first thing I do is put wordpad in the "send to" menu. That's a very good tip - I always do that, although I picked Notepad instead of Wordpad for a couple of reasons. Recommended to all - do it now! As for EasyGPS, a clumsy-but-functional workaround would be to change all your shortcuts to a batch file that runs EasyGPS and then silently runs something to check the menu associations and restore them if necessary. I could code that up if people would find it useful (although I might volunteer Huga for the task seeing as he's in the coding mood!) 7. quote:Originally posted by Team Blitz:I'm hoping there might be a mobile phone case that fits... eg from a market stall. The problem is I keep forgetting to bring my GPS in when it's market day!!!! I was wondering the same thing, after seeing a GPS mounted very snugly in a mobile phone dashmount (thanks to MCL). Significantly cheaper than the Garmin product (which I'd already bought - ach.) Sam -- Seek and ye shall find (tupperware, ammo boxes, bears, free ISP CDs...)
  8. Don't suppose anyone coming to the meet has an eTrex carry case they don't need and would like to sell? Somehow I lost mine after only about its third or fourth use and before I go and pay the official price for a new one, I thought I'd see if anyone has a spare they don't need any more to sell. Thanks! -- Seek and ye shall find (tupperware, ammo boxes, bears, free ISP CDs...)
  9. I'm about 15 miles away from that, so could also do it (although not sure when - this Saturday might be possible0. -- Seek and ye shall find (tupperware, ammo boxes, bears, free ISP CDs...)
  10. Well, until the new arrival has got the hang of potty training, how about Moss Pooper? -- Seek and ye shall find (tupperware, ammo boxes, bears, free ISP CDs...)
  11. quote:Originally posted by Teasel:However, Elias is hoping to have a beta test feed in the next week or so. Good to hear - it makes sense for GC.com, because having reams of stats to browse on GUK should take some of the burden from their servers. Thanks guys - keep us posted! -- Seek and ye shall find (tupperware, ammo boxes, bears, free ISP CDs...)
  12. Just watched the programme (thanks T&J for the link). Was very pleased to see a really nicely put-together piece, and giving a decent well-balanced non-nerdy view of caching! So good not to see "well, don't people think you're mad?" "isn't it a bit sad?" "gosh you must be incredibly intelligent to use the internet and a GPS?" I admit I was a little concerned when I first heard about it, but there's no worries with the end result. Well done to everyone involved! -- Seek and ye shall find (tupperware, ammo boxes, bears, free ISP CDs...)
  13. How about? http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?grid2map?x=222500&y=707500&zoom=3&isp=200&ism=1000&arrow=y?104,108 -- Seek and ye shall find (tupperware, ammo boxes, bears, free ISP CDs...)
  14. It was always the standard unit of distance on Red Dwarf... But it's a military term - it's the same as a kilometre. (Say it quickly with some marbles in your mouth...) -- Seek and ye shall find (tupperware, ammo boxes, bears, free ISP CDs...) [This message was edited by Wronskian on January 09, 2003 at 09:44 AM.]
  15. I presume people are arriving over the course of a couple of hours, rather than all planning to arrive and eat at once? (I'm sure the pub's kitchen will prefer it if we spread things out a bit.) -- Seek and ye shall find (tupperware, ammo boxes, bears, free ISP CDs...)
  16. I think I've been un-forgotten now. BTW, I phoned the pub and as soon as I mentioned I wanted to make a booking for Sunday lunch, they said "oh, are you with the Paul Blitz group?" before I'd even mentioned which Sunday. Guess they're getting used to it by now! See y'all then. -- Seek and ye shall find (tupperware, ammo boxes, bears, free ISP CDs...)
  17. What's over your head - the need to convert between LOC and MPS or the way to download the program? If it's the former, it's because many of us like to use Garmin's Mapsource to manipulate waypoints, display maps and communicate with the GPS. However, geocaching.com only provides .LOC files which Mapsource can't handle. The traditional way to deal with this is to use EasyGPS (I think) to send the LOC format to the GPSr, then load it back into Mapsource from the GPSr. Save et voila - an MPS file. Huga's EasyMPS does this conversion for you - much easier. Sam -- Seek and ye shall find (tupperware, ammo boxes, bears, free ISP CDs...)
  18. Just in case you're wondering - the link to Huga's EasyMPS won't be working for a few days. It'll appear at the same time as he does; daresay you'll know about it then. Talking of wheels and reinventing, I presume Teasel knows something of the MPS format, because the old GeocacheUK stats pages could produce MPS format waypoints (which is how I got them into the Garmin), so maybe another resource to pool? -- Seek and ye shall find (tupperware, ammo boxes, bears, free ISP CDs...)
  19. Ho ho ho - merry Christmas to everyone, and all the best for the New Year. Things are progressing well here - turkey has been demolished, although pudding has been postponed until we can do it justice. Have even been out with the GPS today - not caching, but just gathering too many statistics about the yearly Christmas walk. 4.54 miles it is. Have a good one, everyone. -- Seek and ye shall find (tupperware, ammo boxes, bears, free ISP CDs...)
  20. I was watching Poirot, too - most worryingly, I had exact the same thought. I guess the GPS coverage in the 1930s would be quite poor, though. -- Seek and ye shall find (tupperware, ammo boxes, bears, free ISP CDs...)
  21. Interesting - so are there any other known celebrity geocachers? I've had a quick Google but didn't find anything. (And, please, no arguments about Wil Wheaton's celebrity status .) -- Seek and ye shall find (tupperware, ammo boxes, bears, free ISP CDs...)
  22. April's so far away I haven't a clue, but I'd imagine the first two dates of those are fine. In fact, I haven't even got my 2003 diary yet... -- Seek and ye shall find (tupperware, ammo boxes, bears, free ISP CDs...)
  23. I think that given the information is pretty easily available elsewhere (Streetmap Grid Conversion, for instance), it seems a bit extravagant to spend $1000 on putting UK postcodes into the system. Of course, I don't know what Jeremy's finances are like - ultimately if he can spare $1000 for us in the UK, that's great! I'm sure we'd find a use for postcode lookup from time to time (and definitely it's good for newcomers). It's just that when you can go elsewhere for free, could the money may be better spent elsewhere on the site? -- Seek and ye shall find (tupperware, ammo boxes, bears, free ISP CDs...)
