Insp Gadget

Well I finally went and got my tattoo! I find it looks nice and would like to post a pic here to get your opinions, but have NO IDEA how to post a pic here!

I'm looking for a nice Geocaching jacket. Anyone know where to get one in Canada? Something with the GC logo on the back or something like that.....

"If anybody can figure out the Proximity Alarm feature, I'd be beholdin'. I figure the alarm is supposed to go off when one comes within a set range of waypoints in general...but when I tried driving by a few waypoints today I got no response. Anybody get the feature to work?" Good question. I went to find a cache this morning and had the proximety alarm on and set for 2km. Around 2.8km away from said cache, the GPS started beeping slowly for about 20 seconds then switchjed to a faster beep and showed that I was getting slow to the waypoint. It did not work when I was just driving by a cache, but seemed only to work when I had a certain waypoint in the goto. I have a question. On the map screen, when I pressed Menu and Select Map Items (I forget the exact name of the menu name) there was a selection called Current Manouveur (sp?). I selected it but found no change to what I was doing. Anyone know what this does?

"I travelled about 950 caching kilometres this weekend, hit 6 caches (3 of which I'd found before), was rushed through a 15km/h tidal current in whirlpools, came close to being flattened by a flying sea lion (yes, a real one!) and almost ended up dead twice. Good times!" How come I never have this much fun?????

I upgraded to 5.12 and everything works fine so far. Anyone know if there is a complete list of the changes made to this upgrade? I wonder if they fixed the tracking problem?

I guess I had a busier weekend than most. Tackled 5 caches, found 4, but hid 16 during the whole weekend. I was a busy little Insp Gadget! Go-Go Gadget Legs!

"MyMeridian doesn't work with this version of the firmware." Can you explain this comment? Do you mean that this firmware doesn't work at all with your Meridian, in which case I wonder how you were getting your information, or is "MyMeridian" some kind of program that you can use on the GPS?

I checked the help file for GPS as suggested but can't find any reference or information on downloading the actual trip into my GPS unit. I do understand that I can have the GPS connected to a laptop computer and watch my progress on the computer screen, but I want to download the information to the GPS and not use a laptop computer at all on the road.

I wonder if this is possible. I have Microsoft Streets and Trips loaded on my computer and am wondering if there's a way of planning a trip on this and downloading all the waypoints to my GPS unit?

Well I finally figured it out. I simply saved all the waypoints to the SD Card and reload all of them. So far so good! Thanks for the help guys.

OK this is weird. I can upload waypoints to my MG, but can only d/n 8 waypoints from it. After that it says there was a communication error. Anyone know how to fix this? I can only assume there is a corrupt waypoint that is making it get stuck or something. I made sure both were talking at the same speed and even tried changing it, but it made no difference.

Hey SuperGenius! Thanks for the story. I changed completly after being introduced to Geocaching. It's such a wonderful way to get out, get some excercise and the poeple I have met in the course of this game are wonderful and to numerous to name. I'm just looking for a small tat, probably on my shoulder. As I mentioned before, I have never had a tat and so I am very pleased with the info on this thread about tattoo artists.

I don't look at the Geocaching symbol as being commercial in nature. I look at it as a way I love spending my time. Geocaching is free to us, and yes I understand that there is a fee if you want the Premier status, but for the most part it's free. I guess I look at it more as a personal thing for me. I'm just ooking for a small tat, nothing major.

I'm seriously thinking of getting a tattoo. Never had one in my life. I want to combine my username, Insp Gadget with the Geocaching logo. Is anyone out there able to draw? I'm looking for ideas for this project.

Any plans on putting in some kind of way to search through the cache listings?

I d/n the version that came out the first day. Where can I get the new one?

I am using a Jornada with 64mb of ram and an external 512mb CF card. The GPX files are locaded in the main memory as well as GPX Sonar. When I click on a file, it just spins for he longest time. The longest I let it run was 15 minutes after which I had to do a soft reset. The GPX files are new.

Any closer to getting a working model of this program out? I tried it and the icon just kept spinning. Can't wait to see what it's like!

Anyone know of a database I can use on my PPC to track my Geocaching stuff?

Is there a way to bookmark the exact address of a web page on Geocaching? I like to check the caches in my province each day and each time I have to start from the begining.

I am thinking of buying a Casio GPS watch to use as a backup in case something happens to my Meridian. I realize this unit would be very limited in what it can do, but would it serve the purpose? Has anyone tried one of these watches? Comments?

Nothing yet, but a friend of mine in Montreal said he found an insp gadget car, but no Insp gadget figure yet.......
