  1. At least 8306.21/29 are not too different from 7118, the real changes being you're now hit with a tariff for Silver and not just Gold plating. Do you happen to know what the quantity exemption is? For example, for 1 or 2 or 10 coins clad with silver, in a non-gift shipment, would the tariff be payable?
  2. Does Germany have a baseline value for customs exempt imports by mail? For example , for Australia, it is $1000, for Canada, it is $20 or $60 for gifts. Interestingly, the US can import (non-gold) coins duty free when declared as HTS code 71181000, as long as they are not legal tender. This is due to WTO agreements, so I wonder for how many other countries this is the case if properly declared? I'm assuming all WTO member nations would be bound by this. Here's a link to the HTS info, for those interested.
  3. I suspect that when the dust settles, it will be discovered that nobody actually successfully completed checkout, so any fears of not being able to get your hands on them can be belayed until a later date. I think part of the issue is psychological, as people don't know how long the coins will be being placed up in batches for, so they want to get in as early as possible. For example, if I knew that they would still be putting some up 4 or 5 days from now, I'd wait a few days for things to cool down before trying to purchase some myself.
  4. No, really. Port 443? Knock knock? Hellooooo, anyone there?
  5. I'm wondering if they remembered to start up SSL at this point...
  6. I can't wait for the credit card auth stage.
  7. Temporarily change your web server port.
  8. Time for a temporary firewall ACL change...
  9. Must restrain self. I'll try to be good
  10. Hmm, http://www.gocloko.com/geocoin/sp%20coin/index.asp worked for me, it could still be an artifact of the Taiwan earthquake back in December. I'm not certain all the fiber optics are fixed yet. Give it a try again, it could have been a transient glitch.
  11. I killed off my Energizer AA NiMH's with the Energizer quick charger. I won't go near it now. The batteries got super hot, as it wasn't cutting out soon enough at the end of the charge cycle. Pity, as that charger was very expensive in Australia.
  12. I'm going to have to order some of these. On a weird note, I was at the Observatory again just yesterday. It is well worth the visit, imho. Too bad nobody ever did a cache there.

Actually, he first called it "Alumium", before deciding to change it 4 years later.

Nah, in my case they can just stick with the status quo and "Blame Canada!" Australian geocachers really are a great mob, present company excepted
  16. The danger of this is that it would further obscure the "visibility" of TBs in the caches, making them more difficult to discern as a TB at first glance, especially to new cachers. They would sink to the bottom, in the middle of all the signature item and broken toy car flotsam. Also, it would dilute the brand, making it very, very unlikely you will ever see it happen. Another side of it is that I have run into TBs with no dog tag, just the number written on paper. Now, how do you know that the person who owns the bug is validly using that number, and hasn't just stolen it by guessing an unactivated tracking number and the standard activation word? For good or bad, things are unlikely to change, as dog tags help clear up all of the above problems.

My Canadian teachers knew the seasons, oddly enough.
  18. I believe they are based on the same technology as the Sanyo "Eneloop" batteries, which have been around for about a year now. These are great batteries for the digital camera or flashlight, where the traditional NiMH makes its self useless very quickly due to self discharge. My digital camera that used to last less than a week on a set of 4xAA 2500mAh NiMH batteries has been running on the same set of 2100mAh Eneloop batteries for nearly two months now, without a recharge. Better yet is that this is the charge from the factory. I wouldn't go back.
  19. I have this sniggling little suspicion that the first one you see will be escorted in, in the hands of a cacher.
  20. Nematodes, borers, and numerous other agents could easily be picked up traveling between caches. You'll still need to be careful.
  21. May I be so bold as to suggest finding somewhere to place it?
  22. Now, I just wish that Magellan would ship to Australia, so that we were not screwed into spending $95 for the same battery.
