  1. Yeah, I noticed that about my Sportrak Map when I upgraded to 5.00...The noise that is... If they were gonna do something dumb like that, they could at least have incorporated a little icon that comes on when the backlight is on.... Funny, my old Mag 315 has a little icon in the bottom right corner when the light is on...
  2. A&E also produced a 3hr movie about this....VERY good movie...a little long, but well done, and well worth the "watch".... LOL....Pun intended... Looks like its available on DVD & tape, too http://www.newvideo.com/productdetail.html...17774-AAE-70123
  3. Huh..... I got my 110 aorund Jan or Feb at WalMart...on clearance for $90... Some WalMarts get products other WalMarts may or may not stock...There are different levels of store sizes....Especially between SuperCenters and regular WalMarts....Its all based on sales floor space. Just because something goes on clearance does not mean its a discontinued or no-longer carried item. Its up to each store what items they put on clearance, and how low $$ they go....Basically each store is held responsible to make a profit. By clearancing items, that comes out of each stores own percentage, so its up to the store level management which items will go, and how low they will go to clearance an item...Sometimes they will drop the price several times on an item... An item I missed out on was a $99 radio controlled HUMMER. We had about 20 of them left over after Xmas. The box its in is HUGE...about 3' x 1.5' x 1.5', and they take up too much shelf space, so they clearanced them out...I think they started at $39....Then, the last day we had them, they let the last 15 or so of them go for $15....They went in just about an hour Needless to say they dissappeared quick.... Well, about a month ago, we started getting a few of them back in again...Back at the full $99 price....I'm sure we will have many more of them again for Xmas...They were a hot item... WalMart bases their inventory heavily on seasonal items. So, when a season comes to a close, they have to make room for the new seasons products. They help accomplish this by clearancing slow moving items, as well as good selling items that they have high quantities of....Most of the clearance items fall under this circumstance, rather than being a discontinued item..... Our WalMart is a mid-size, and they have to carry the cheaper Made-For-WalMart brands before any big-name items....Once in awhile we get higher end stuff, but they usually go quick, and if not, they get clearanced to make room for the regular cheapy stuff....Thats how they can say they have the lowest prices...Not a lot of big-name items....Of which, Garmin would be....The high-end items dont gain them much profit, since they have to pay a high cost on them, and have to charge full MRSP on them.....SO you can almost always find these big-name items cheaper elsewhere.....Thats why they dont stock many of them, or for very long. Matter of fact, we have a couple of Cobra 100's sitting in the display case that have been there since they came out months ago.....The Garmin 110's we only stocked for a month or two before they clearanced the two that were left... Anyway, sorry for being so long winded, but just thought I would shed some light on how WallyWorld works...Hope I didnt put you to sleep...
  4. I might make it....Depends on how much sleep I can fit in... I work 3rd shift Fri AND Sat...
  5. Ha! Between Letchworth SP and Dansville NY, the RE/MAX is one of MANY balloons that I always see RIGHT above my house...
  6. Heres a link to look up places you can drop off your dead rechargeable batteries properly....Its free, too! I know Wal-Marts accept them....The drop off boxes are usually at the Customer Service Desk or at the Lay-Away Counter... http://www.rbrc.org/consumer/uslocate.html
  7. If you havent already, take it oustide your front door to an open area, and re-initialize it. Let it sit for 15-20 mins before turning it off...see if that helps. Anytime you travel for more than 500miles away from your initialization point with it off, you need to re-initialize it also.
  8. Sorry, I meant 5.0.... Stoopid forums wont let me edit the topic name, delete, or close the thread... OK, I havent been around in awhile....I even did a search, but nothing recent came up. Is anyone having issues with the 5.0 firmware? Seems like I am having initial lock issues....takes forever to get a good lock. Also, seems like my coords are off from my Merigreen a lot, and not in a good way... Plus, there is that whole , stupid backlight-comes-on-any-time-an-alarm-message-comes-up thing...
  9. He has no forum posts, either. I met him a couple of months ago, while I was checking on a couple of area caches. Gave him coords for one of mine that he didnt have a sheet for....He logged an amazing number of caches that day, given the area and the caches. He logs under a different account ID. He is still pretty active. Only has 113 finds, with 3 caches hidden under his other ID.
  10. Interesting how Magellan went back to using GRAY-scale LCD's.... I dont like the blue-LCD on my Merigreen....its much harder to read at night than my ST, and I now have large, off-color blue areas and a stripe from burn-in on mine...
  11. I was watching Screen Savers on TechTV last year, and they were interviewing Steve Wozniak......He had just come up with a GPS device that does EXACTLY this....it was small, about the size of a .50 cent piece... http://www.internetnews.com/wireless/article.php/959891 http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/12.05/start.html?pg=17 http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews.../6349353.htm?1c
  12. Have you downloaded and run MagIconFinder yet? Do that....It should give you a .csv file, that you will need to use with MeridIcon.... I would email the Meridicon author to find ot for sure, but I think the only difference between the different versions that correspond to the different firmware versions, is because the icon addresses get shifted around in memory with the different firmware versions.
  13. I used Meridicon a while back...worked GREAT! Only two little issues.... You have to redo it whenever you switch firmware, and the one thats a pain, is that even tho you can see the new icons great on your GPS, EasyGPS/ExpertGPS as well as Mapsend still see them as the old icons... I made two icons for caches...one an open treasure chest, and the other closed, for found/not found caches...
  14. I dont know.....this new policy seems more geared toward large usage by agricultural, lumber, county, town, or for other invovled purposes.... I mean, heck, hunters, trappers, fishermen, hikers, bikers, horseback riders all USE this same land, but do THEY have to pay $25 and file a permit every time they want to "use" this land? I would be interested to find that out.... I do realise we are leaving a little something behind, the "equipment", meaning cache container, which shouldnt in and of itself have that much of an impact on the environment.... I would like to see something like a geocaching license, where you pay a fee just like a hunting/fishing/trapping license, and are allowed to place as many caches on whatever DEC land you like, but still be required to apply for a permit for each cache, but with no per-application fee. I'm pretty sure cache density would NOT become much of an issue....We police ourselves pretty well on that count...And DEC would still have final say in the approval of each application, if they thought density was becoming an issue.
  15. Check out the date at the top of the new permit..... (02/04)....AFTER this thread was begun on 01/15/04.... SEE WHAT YOU GUYS DID!!!!..... . . . . . . . . j/k
  16. Here's a copy of the application you fill out.... I find item #5 of the listed Terms and Conditions to be quite interesting......
  17. At least we have these: http://www.fcps.k12.va.us/StratfordLanding...cada_killer.htm We had some of these nest in our eaves a few years ago. They were HUGE! I found a couple dead ones, which measured 2 1/2" and 2 5/8" long... When I first saw one, it buzzed by me while I was walking in the backyard, and I thought it was a hummingbird....
  18. Well, I assume a TRP is required for EACH cache placed? If so, my cache placing days are over....I can barely afford $5 for ammo box, about $8-$10 in trade items, not to mention gas coming to and from the cache to hide and maintain it...
  19. Pic was taken at Rattler's Tail. I really like that trail a lot. You have a travel bug with a goal to attend the Paragon Jamb??? I think I'll go put that on my Watch List right now! huh...I havent been at that end of the park yet.... I've only been on a few trails, and mostly riding shotgun... Oh yeah, so did you speak to Kyle about placing the cache there? What was his position on the whole caching thing? I know they have some abandoned mines in there.....wonder if he would allow a couple more caches.... ???
  20. Hehehe.... Sounds like my 80 Hilux..... So far, whats left of my '40 is all 74.....I even got the 4spd with the 3spd case from the factory... Do you use rusty_tlc as yer handle on POR also?
  21. Ahhh.....I was about to ask you if that pic was at Paragon, but I see you're the one that has the cache there... What trail was that pic on?...looks like Sleepy Hollow, Turtle Rocks, or maybe the flat part of Wompom...?? I cant wait to get back down there this spring or summer.....I even have a TB that needs to go to a Jeep Jamboree at Paragon....
  22. Well.....here we go... I was hoping an organized caching group, such as NYGO, would be able to get a plan together and open this possible can of worms before a lone cacher did it... Oh well..... your intentions are good, I guess.... I hope NY turns out to be as reasonable as PA, and not as bad as other states I have heard of on the issue...
  23. Sounds like your button press on the GOTO key is not registering.... ESC + PWR will get you into the Burn In Test.... The hidden function keypresses can be tricky, and may take several attempts to get it right. It still takes me several tries to get it right. Try pressing the ESC and GOTO keys, hold them in, THEN press the PWR key....keep trying, you'll get it
  24. Hey those look GREAT! Now...I dont mean to complain, but where is my MeriGreen? I know its now discontinued, but....theres got to be lots of people out there with them....I mean you guys did the Yellow and Marine....gotta be more people with Greens than those two... Thanx for having these done....
