  1. Looks like a couple of us are gonna make it... myself and the oldest daughter(16) who didn't get to make it to the fall picnic so this will be her first event! Still trying to arrange a ride from the Truck Stop on Friday early afternoon and then return on Saturday evening. Unless of course pokagon has a spot for a tractor to park and camp?
  2. What is your thought on the person who happens to be 10hrs or more from home or something like that can't find it and will probably not get back to that area again? Yes, they should post DNF if couldn't find it but the hint would be an after the fact for them. I mean either way no big deal you just have to decide if you want few or most people who search to log a find, right? Or there is the other option I guess if a person knew they were going to search for a cache a long distance away and that is how the hint was listed.... they could just post a DNF even if they haven't looked, just to get the clue ahead of time for a bit of security...(Not that I would do this or that I am saying anyone should)
  3. We like to read profiles of people we meet or the ones who are often traveling the same paths as we are. (Not that we spend all waking hours reading them) The social aspect of geocaching is one that we are enjoying very much. You can learn alot about people most of the time based on what they do or don't include in thier profile, and how they include it! We've noticed the more experience people get caching the more thier profiles change because of developing different appreciations involved within the world of the sport, and reading some of the profiles of the more experienced has given us different perspectives on things on a couple of occasions. After all geocaching isn't just cut and dry there are many aspects of the sport that you may or may not want to be a part of... coins, sig items, events, TB's, micros, virtuals, mysteries, extreme caching, specific groups such as truckers, and so on and so on... you may love this cause it is something you can do on your own or with your pet to get some peace from the busy world around you, or it could be that you love to do this very socially and out loud with lots of others around you! Not that our profile is all that great or anything cause it is definately a work in progress, too much about this and not enough about that. Hopefully though there is enough general and specific info on it that someone could learn a bit about us if they wanted to. Maybe if you read ours you will say hey... some other crazy people like us in the world... we're gonna drop in on them and eat all thier pretzels and drink all thier beer...... or It could scare you away and when you see us at an event you will think oh no.. not them again and run and hide! At any rate .. we like profiles
  4. Just wanted to bump in on your trade discussions and ask what the oppinion was of those who leave thier sig. items in a cache..... Do you leave them there with the purpose of someone trading them out or for the owner of the cache?
  5. We post our DNF's usually if we can't find it after a couple of searches. Not because we are ashamed of not finding it on the first try, but because we may have just had a blonde moment the first time there and we don't want to alert others to think this one can't be found. You know when you see the logs and there are a month or more worth of DNF's, odds are that you're not going to go look for that one, or maybe you do want to go look for that one just to try and prove something to yourself or others. Also when you post a DNF you alert the owner that this one may be missing when in fact it could be just a total loss of all geosense for that particular hunt. On the other hand, if after a couple times or long first time looking and no find, then.... DNF, especially if it is rated low. DNFs are helpful for others for the same reasons that are listed above, it's not like they go against you or something, there are several that we would have spent lots of time looking in vain on that could never be found because they were missing ( or likely missing ) and we didn't have to waste our time there because others were courteous enough to post DNFs. We in fact posted a couple DNF's very recently and this alerted the owners, who in turn went to check on thier hides, and they were in fact missing! In our oppinion the only thing that can be bad about a DNF is if someone posts them without consciously considering some of the above thoughts!!!
  6. We travel quite often and our employment requires travel as well! The number of crossroads that we all encounter every day is amazing, some of them actually a road that we travel on and others being the choices we have to make. Making the right choices is hardly ever easy and sometimes we are left wondering if we made the right decision or not. So every decision we make we try to make the decision that would be the one that would lead to the cross! Our handle is one we chose as we hope to develop a ministry with the same name and it really defines alot about us! We are attempting to begin a ministry under this name that reaches out to people who are living a nomadic lifestyle. For instance one thing we want to do is minister to carnival workers, coming to them after the show closes and serving a hot quality meal, bringing in guest speakers that will do presentations on healthy and positive living, also offering #'s and contacts in the area of substance abuse and counseling! There are many other things we would like to do in the ministry as well. Hope this helps anyone with an interest a better understanding of our handle and a little bit about us, stay tuned as we are working on a website and organizational geocoin, for those who are intrigued to know a little more!!!
  7. Always guilty of lurking and sometimes jumping up and spurting something out too! Love this sport and it is fun sometimes to just read what others are talking and sometimes arguing about!
  8. Hello all Sort of on the topic... 1: How does one adopt a cache, where is the form located on the site to do this? We are currentlly talking to the owner of a few who wants to give them up as they are no longer in the area often enough. 2: And once adopted can people refind it and log as a new find? or FTF? 3: Can you rehide it within a few feet of original location and change coords?
  9. Hi all! With Pokagon being the place we learned all about this insane thing that we all do, we are hoping that we can attend at least for a day trip and if not everyone at least PeacefulNomad??? Might have to work? Will let you know when we know more!
  10. An interesting topic indeed!! My wife and I were just discussing this a couple of days ago, as she is a scuba diver and would like me to become certified. Underwater caches would definately entice me a bit more to do that!!! We both agreed that they are probably out there but discussed the complications with them and the possibility that such a thing already is there with a different name from some scuba organization???? At any rate We await some more educated responses with you! Peaceful Nomad
  11. Hello to all! We are rather new to geocaching and do not have geocoins... We are looking to buy geocoins in a decent quantity, with low price, and unregistered, but for the most part would like them to be trackable! We are not real picky on which ones we get but would like them in uncirculated condition and do not really want too many doubles 1 or 2 OK, so we can send a couple into the wild! A few LE of very low productions would be nice. We are looking for large quantity and low cost. If this is the wrong way to go about obtaining a good start to a collection please let us know a better one? Please email us with the best offer you can send us for 20 to 30 coins including shipping and handling. If you have a bigger quantity that you think is an irresistable deal, let us know! (maybe you want to drop your whole collection?) I assure you the only purpose for buying these is to get our collection rolling along, not for business purposes. Thanks and we look forward to talking with all of you and geocaching with you all!!! If we do not answer you right away that is because we are going to be away for most of the week doing some geocaching and attending the InDigo Fall Picnic.
  12. I don't know much about this subject except for reading this string. I am in the works now of getting nearly 10 caches to place(which will be our first ones) and I will not now or ever pay to place a cache. As well, I am pretty much in support of the boycott method and word of mouth for others that have no involvment in geocaching to boycott these areas as well. I apologize if anything I have said is in ignorance, but this clearly seems wrong to me!!!
  13. Going to Disney, Wishing we were at Disney, Planning a trip to Disney, Dreaming about Disney.... you get the picture! Oh yes, and we like to collect pins, go to flea markets, play games of all kinds, camp, travel, goto concerts, volunteer work, anything we can find to do that is new adventerous and interesting!!!
  14. Does anyone have extra geocoins for sale? Unregistered definately prefered. We will be at the fall picnic and would like to buy a few to start our collection! Just drop us a line and let us know what you have and cost for them, Thanks Also, if anyone has any extra unregistered dogtags or bison tubes, that would be great too!
  15. Did anyone buy in bulk yet and planning on bringing to the fall picnic?? We are interested in some if price is right! Let Us Know
