  1. Olive Drab Canvas Map Case Shoulder Bag $11 from Amazon Durable, easier than a backpack and holds everything I need when caching. I even used it when hiking down Mt Washington. (key word..DOWN....let gravity do the work!) Map Case From Amazon
  2. A few points: - The mobi pocket ebook provided by Groundspeak was terrible - What about blackberry users??? Cachemate looks to be a great product but does not offer any support for Blackberry - What tyes of documents can a Blackberry display? I'd like to come up with a solution that would allow me to email a file to my BB so I don't have to connect my BB to my PC (which I do now with my ebooks) I've written a GSAK macro that creates a very good ebook but you can't email to yourself. Gotta find a solution that is good for everyone!
  3. Using an XSLT? I was trying to do that part but I'm not very XML "fluent". I do however, have an opf that you can use. How can I get it to you?
  4. Yes the mobipocket macro I created for GSAK actually creates HTML files first and then "compiles" them into a mobipocket format. While this is a great solution for individuals, it's really not very efficient and wouldn't work in an environment where there are thousands of ebooks that need to be created. Im sure that shortly a small utility can and will be created by some of the creative and industrious geocachers out there. I don't see any technical problems that would prevent a small utility from being created and distributed so that individuals can create their own ebooks.
  5. If you need to create a Mobipocket eBook to use for Geocaching here's how. All you need is mobigen.exe and GSAK. Here is a link to a GSAK macro that will create a mobipocket ebook from your cache list http://gsak.net/board/index.php?showtopic=...amp;#entry36043.
  6. I have updated the macro to handle spaces in the path name. It will also now allow spaces in the ebook filename (actually it changes spaces to underscores) Thanks to everyone who figured out the issue with spaces! http://gsak.net/board/index.php?showtopic=...amp;#entry36043
  7. The end result should create a .mobi file. If you wound up with a .opf file the macro ended before it was complete
  8. If you're using GSAK.. I've written a macro that will export your caches to a mobi pocket file. Ithink its actually better then the original PRC file! (but hey... that's me!) Check it out here and shoot me some feedback! http://gsak.net/board/index.php?showtopic=6132 Oh. man!!! I read through the thread and missed the very last one... Sorry about the dupplicate post!!
  9. CACHE with a nice Geocaching license plate frame! http://shop.Groundspeak.com/productDetail....mp;ProductID=66
  10. FYI.. I have installed the European Firmware on my 210 and merely changed the distance units to feet instead of meters. I find that the GPSr acquires satellites faster and acquires more satellites then the old firmware. I have to admit though, I don't use many of the additional features (yet!).
  11. Hi. I'm StipMan and I've been addicted to caching for about 5 months now. It all started with a small cache located near my home. Now I've actually avoided doing caches located near my home. When I take the family out caching I tend to go to distant locations so that those caches around my home are available when I "go out for milk" or "run to Home Depot for a pound of nails"... My family doesn't know I have this problem.. that I've been caching in secret... how can I tell them... that I've been cheating on them... caching on my own...I'm so ashamed...well not really.
  12. I'm planning up doing the firware upgrade on my explorist 210 but I would like to have a backup copy of my existing firmware in case things don't go as nicely as it has for others. Where can I get a copy? I checked the Magellan site with out luck. Might there be a copy on the oringinal distribution CD's that came with the GPSr?
  13. so the question begins.... which state has the most? which one the least? average number?
  14. A quick method is to use the link: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?state_id=52 where you change the number from 2 through 51 to get the individual states. This is the best I could do .
  15. Did a quick search using STATE as the criteria NEW YORK has 7729.
  16. I use my blackberry for paperless caching. I originally received my pocket queries in eBook format but the results were in alphabetical order by cache id instead of ordered by distance. I tend to go caching by distance. I really don't go caching alphabetically (although that would be a unique way of caching). The solution I came up with involved using GSAK to export my caches in HTML format and then using the Mobipocket Creator (free from Mobipocket) to create the ebook from the HTML. It has worked out very well. I really enjoy the many different relations that the HTML eBook presents. You can view by name, by distance, nearby caches, density, caches with travel bugs etc etc. To make the process a little easier, I created a macro in GSAK that automatically creates the mobipocket ebook. I do have to admit, I did write a small visual basic script to create the input file that Mobipocket Creator uses, but I could provide if anyone would like to look at it, simplfy it etc
  17. The thought is to create a fake cover for a hollow in the base of tree. Cache goes in the tree, cover it with fake cover attached with small hinge to keep it on. I beleive I have another method for attaching it that does not use any fasteners that get attached to the tree. I can use gravity and friction...two of my favorite things.
  18. I can see the logic there and I had a feeling you'd give that answer. I think I have an alternate way to create the cache disguise though without "mounting hardware" involved.
  19. I just recently hid my first cache an I do have to say it is VERY important to read ALL of the guidelines. There were a few points in the guidelines that I almost didn't follow. They offer good information that helps make the caching experience more enjoyable, safer, etc etc. Now for my question about hiding a cache... I'm thinking on placing a cache that would require 2 wood screws to be used on a tree. I know that 2 wood screws wouldn't hurt a tree but I do not want to offend anyone or set an unwanted precedent. I figure the cache will require some good craftsmanship and a good amount of artistic ability to create it and I want to do it right. (I'm not just bolting an ammo box to a tree!) I do think that cachers would appreciate the cache when placed/found. Any comments?
  20. If money is no object, I'd like to offer my services as a Geocaching Sherpa. I'll guide your friend to all of the coolest caches and when it's time to snap a photo I'll take a step or two backwards (probably over a cliff) out of the photo. Now that would be my "dream job" btw.. might as well throw in GSAK and a laptop...
  21. Actually I believe it's hugs and kisses. Magellen is a very "touchy/feely" kind of company. :-)
  22. Just got the results for my pocket query and I included the option for eBook. Problem is that the eBook says on the table of contents "Ordered by distance from origin..." but the caches are actually ordered by waypoint name (cache ID). Did I do something wrong? I'm new to this eBook/PocketQuery stuff. Thanks for any feedback/suggestions.
  23. Thanks for the response... I really am crazy! Better yet, I think knucklehead is a better description.
  24. Call me crazy... (my wife and kids do!) but I could have sworn that on the My Account page under the Quick View link I would get the same stats that appear when viewing someone elses profile. i.e. a table listing traditional caches, multi caches, benchmarks etc with a total at the bottom. Now I get my recent logs and to the left is my stat bar which displays total found/hidden, but no detail. Any idea where I can find this info? I'm new to this so please be gentle with your responses! Thanks
