  1. This not in direct reference to the OP...so, please do not take it that way... But, don't blame the finders for this. Cache Owners should know about the land in which they place caches. I was on one hunt this weekend where we were asked to pull the cache by the land owner. We did and we were glad to spend some time with the land owner and getting everything straightened out...
  2. I have gotten a couple that amount to "TFTEC"... . . . ...odd part was they answered the questions with more detail then I really needed...more time in the email to me than the log...but, to each their own. Of note, I an usually pretty favorable to keep logs if they are able to show they made a serious attempt at answering the questions. There have been a couple I have deleted after the usually email clarification...but not many...
  3. Not asking because you want to avoid the answer is also a bad reason for not asking...
  4. I was thinking the same thing...but you beat me to it.
  5. I use my phone to look up additonal info about a cache...but I use a regular GPS for actual caching...(finding and hiding).
  6. Go for it...it is your event...and your cache...
  7. So they can keep their hands warm!!!
  8. I think the OP already knows that, if he is completing a side game like a "100 day streak challenge". Me, I'm working on the 167 day streak challenge. I got to 18 and decided it was too much work...
  9. Knickers twisters because using any of these techniques is sure to get someone else's knickers in a twist. Your 'puritanism" argument is not going to work for me here. This sort of stuff totally changes the game, turning it into a game that many of us are not interested in. Can we still play the game as we used to? Sure we can. But I refuse to lay down and say that we should not protect the ethics that we believe it just because some people like to post ice-cream eating frogs. These people should be playing Munzee instead. Ok...that was funny too...I just spit coffee all over my computer screen...
  10. Knickers twisters because using any of these techniques is sure to get someone else's knickers in a twist. I don't care who you are...that is funny right there...
  11. I put "Stealth" required on most all caches...mainly for irony... . . . Acting "Stealthy" is the easiest way (and most likely way) in which one is caught. Act like you know what you are doing (because most of us do know what we are doing) and most people will leave you alone. If approached, I tend to wait for them to get to me (usually approaching oncoming people puts them in a defensive mood) and I usually open the conversation with "So, I bet you are wondering what I am doing here?" It works often to relax them and it usually a great opener for dicussion. Depending on when I am "spotted" during the search, I will either show them what I found, ask if there are interested in helping or wait for them to leave before replacing the cache in its spot (course, this would be after the find). A sure way to get "extra-unwanted" attention is to run when someone approaches you. Many of the caches in which neighbors have seen me have been adopted and watched over by the surrounding houses...sort of funny how the locals take over the care of a cache when they know it is doing no harm.
  12. CO-FTF can happen...it has happen to me on several different trips...just to name a few ways... -we reached for the cache as the same time from different directions (yelled found it and placed a jinx on each other). -we have spotted the cache as we got out of the vehicle. . . . ...Just saying it can happen...
  13. Doesn't really bother me... Keep in mind...some people make use of group memberships and while one may hide the cache...the other finds it.
  14. I put out a log book for people to sign at my events...but, I still take them for their word when they log an event. Course, all my events have been local cachers that a know and very easy for me to know if someone was there or not.
  15. Not if I have permission from the CO, at least that's how I read the TOU, althoug the mod still seems to remove the links. Even if it's a link to my own geocache *shrug*. The Moderators removing the link I would think has more to do with taking people to a site determined to be commercial in nature...if people really want to look, it is easy enough to search for.
  16. I am not sure either way... However, posting an NA log for most is not going to happen. No one wants to be labeled as a "Geopolice". There is a certain amount a stigma that goes with posting an NA...even on a cache the deserves it. I know many well respected cachers that hesitate on posting an NA because of the way one couple be labeled. Urine in this cache...I am not sure...I am just posting on my thoughts and opinions about posting NA's...
  17. Sounds like a great idea...just be sure to run it past a local reviewer...they will be able to help you out with what is ok and what isn't ok...mainly on the rememberance vs agenda stuff people have already mentioned.
  18. +1 I don't hide what I am doing. Most people just ignore you anyway...those that take the time to ask, I will take the time to explain. About 50% of the time, they end up joining me in the hunt and a couple week later I will receive an email thanking me for introducing her/him/them to a new and addictive hobby...
  19. I think the real issue, is that a lot of geocachers are essentially "brainwashed" into thinking every muggle is bad. This really is not true, and the fact of the matter is most people respect what other people's hobbies are. I don't think it has to do with rushing, i've met plenty of geocachers, "on the trail", and they all were taking their time, enjoying the scenery, even in caches 5 feet from a parking lot. Try not to act like a muggle. When you talk to the next geocacher, make sure you know what you are talking about, let them know you know all about their game, and that you will do no harm to the cache, as you've known about it for a while, they will see no reason to ignore you. If you don't know, a muggle is someone who does not geocache or knows about geocaching. I typically try to brainwash every muggle that approaches me into being a potential geocacher!!! Some one approaches me, I will spend time with them, letting them know what I am up to.
  20. In one case, I know that for sure. I was the last one to find the cache before it went kablooie. It had a wire hook to hang it from a bush. Never trust a dog with glasses!!!
