  1. I like the idea and I would have fun with it. Good luck on getting some winners!
  2. We've rarely taken anything from a cache. We are new to this and haven't seen much worth taking. We did take a matchbox car once, because my son wanted it. We love signature items, but don't see them much either. We once saw a single glove in a cache. We thought about taking it in hopes of finding it's mate someday. *smiles*
  3. We take along our 17 month old on all our hunts so I'm going to say our difficult score is 4! LOL!
  4. My father and step-mother introduced my family to geocaching after I lost a pregnancy this spring. I was very depressed and looking for a way to turn our tragedy around. My DH and I decided that we needed to live life to the fullest and enjoy it a little more and my father thought that geocaching would help us do just that. He took us out on some hunts, showed us the ropes, we enjoyed it as a family and jumped in with both feet. Since this is intended to be a family activity for us, we named our "team" after our young son. He's a wee little geo-tracker (1 1/2 years old) and loves to go out with us on the hunt. Mommy and Daddy, and anyone else that wants to join us, are his brigade
  5. I'm really impressed with the clever ideas in this thread! I'm new to this sport and I had no idea how involved and original caches could/can be. Kudos! And sbell111, I saw your stuff on Ebay, a week or so back, when I was researching GPS device, and I was impressed with your creativity then. You're very imaginative. My favorite had to be the boat floats. It would seem obvious, but I bet I wouldn't of found it.
  6. I'm really sorry this has happened to so many of you. It happened to my parents years back. It has to be terrible.
  7. I would probably avoid them. However, after reading some of the replies here, I might be open to some under the right conditions.
  8. ^^ What you're talking about, repetitive threads on the same page, might be annoying, but doesn't equal disrespect to me. There's no malicious intent involved when threads like that happen - - - but there is when someone chooses to make a "disrespectful" reply. Those type of replies are disrespectful to the author as well. As a newcomer to the sport and the forum, I'm left wondering what's safe to discuss and what's not. Some people are computer and forum savy and some people aren't. This is a relatively new sport and there is a lot to learn. Live and let live. If you open a topic and it happens to be one that's been discussed previously, it's faster to hit the back button then to leave an unfriendly reply. Unfriendly replies also do nothing toward painting a positive image of this community and the sport. First impressions are everything. In the future, if I happend to run across repetitive topics, I choose to either hit back on my browser or provide a link to the previous thread. I think that's a more contructive way to comport oneself.
  9. I agree with Miragee that it's not worth getting a 60C over your Vista C. If you got a 60csx then it might be depending on your needs. That one has a much better satellite sensitivity and it lets you store your maps on an external SD card. I have a 60CS and it finds all the same caches that Miragee's Vista C finds! Unlike the 60C, the 60CS has an electronic compass which always points at the cache no matter which way you turn. As far as accuracy claims, I think when the batteries get low on any GPS they can all act erraticly. But the bottom line is that you need to look at your "needs" when you decide. You should also keep in mind that there may be neat GPSs on the horizon! I really appreciate your comments. It's really hard when you are trying to decide on your next GPS when there are so many models available. It looks like we will keep the Vista C because my husband plans to use it when we are geocaching, because he hates that I hog the GPS. *smiles* I am a little concerned about the statement that it doesn't have a compass. Everything I have researched suggested that it does have the compass when in the geocaching mode (which is another reason I am considering this model, that coupled with the great price I found). I am more confused then ever now. I might consider upgrading to a CS, but the price difference is a factor and not worth it, if the 60C does in fact have a compass for geocaching. http://www.gpsonsale.com/garmin/products/60c.htm Thank you! Any further comments are welcomed. I haven't had a gps for long, so I am still new to what's out there.
  10. I have a Garmin ETrex Vista C and have been happy with it thus far. It was my first GPS and it did the trick. I'm debating on whether to upgrade to a Garmin GPSMap 60C. I found the unit available for $260.00. I like the auto navigation option (I don't have to manually mark my routes) and audio alerts it has. I'm just wondering if these two features are worth the additional money. Does anyone have experience with these two models? I plan to use it primarily for Geocaching, but will ocassionally use it for travel. I'm also stumped on the differences between the 60, 60c and 60 csx. Thanks in advance.
